This Sunday morning (5/15) I will be riding the Racine bike course around 9am.  My plan is to do about 45 miles at a pace somewhere around 17-18mph.  Anyone is welcome to join me.  Also, I've haven't been to this area of Racine in years.  Does anyone know the best/easiest place to park in relation to the bike start?

I'm gonna try and make that 5-15, 9am but Saturday might end in a drunken mess.  The North Beach parking lot IS the transition area on race day so park right there, walk your bike to the street and see if you can clip in while tackling the hill.

jgarrett - 2011-05-10 10:55 AM I am staying at the Marriot in Racine from Friday to Sunday. Would love to meet up for dinner or something with you all!

Speaking of dinner, can someone recommend a restaurant? We are completely and utterly clueless.

Italian would be great. I am guessing we should make reservations about a month out?

Doing my first 70.3 of the season on June 5 here in Grand Rapids. I am using it as training for Racine, they are predicting a cold swim! Yuck.

Good luck!  How cold is cold, exactly? I did a short OWS last night and the water temp was about 59. That seemed rather "brisk".

And on the food, either Infusions or Olive Garden sound great. I am all about the food.

Hey, best of luck to you! I am doing the Lake Carlyle Olympic down in southern Illinois this weekend. I got my first OWS of the season last night and the water was pretty "brisk", for want of a better word.

It is an inland lake they are predicting low 50's! I don't plan on any open water before then which is a big bummer.

i'm planning on doing a warm up tri near racine in lake mills, wi on june 5.   i did it last year (first tri ever) and its a nice sprint distance race to get the season started!

on another note, my training was briefly interrupted by a night out in milwaukee with some old friends - i was a wreck the next day.  just finished a brick over lunch and i'm back at it.

Not doing it, but extremely jealous of you. If gas wasn't so expensive I would be toeing the line with you. It sounds like a cool venue and a gorgeous bike. Good luck and enjoy.

Regarding dinner, we have done dinner at the The Chancery which is inside the downtown Marriot.  It is very close to North Beach (transition) and Festival Hall (where they have had check in and the expo in recent years).  Good pasta and seafood meals.  They do larger groups if you call ahead and give them a number estimate.

Did the Grand Rapids Tri course on Sunday. 56 miles in 80 degree temps. Bonked at mile 49. Realized that I need solids and not just GU. One rider crashed at mile 30, pretty messed up. 3 teeth out, broken nose.

Course has more hills then Racine, good! It will be a nice training race next week!

Just got my complementary slot for Racine from the fine folks at WTC (since they cancelled IM China with 2 weeks notice). Now I need to figure out how to schedule some business in Chicago at the same time! It will be nice to finally do a race with more than a few BT'ers.

See you there.

I am trying to fit in a ride on the course with a run off sometime this week, either Saturday or Sunday, most likely Sunday. I'll probably be riding avg of 20-21 mph.

How 'bout that RAIN!?!? The mid-west is getting pounded. I did a 30 mile bike in some very dense mist last week (probably not the safest ride I've ever done but it wasn't as bad when I left the house, plus it was on the TRAINING PLAN), then I did a 10 mile run monday that was supposed to be a 13.1 but I got rained on so hard (like that hard horizontal rain) that I had to circle back by the house to change my cotton sweat pants pants because they were so heavy and wet that i ran out of time.  I finally wised up and rode the trainer yesterday because of MORE RAIN, and now I am hoping I will have a 4 hour window to get a 60 mile ride in this weekend.  Allegedly it is supposed to be sunny!

Got my first open water swim in today! Good considering the GR Tri is only 5 days away. Short of breath for the first couple of minutes, water was pretty cold. Once I got going it wasn't that bad. Always the part of the tri I worry about the most.

Good luck training all!
