Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread My PT did IMAZ in November so obviously get the appeal of IM and tris. I'm 5.5 weeks out from surgery. Will start weaning off crutches next week. Today she said May or June would be when I would be ready from a strength and recovery perspective to start training for IMFL. I had been thinking April. I like training and around 10-12 hours a week is what my body likes to do. I'm not sure if starting in June after then 7 months of recovery time will be enough time to train for IMFL. When I signed up I knew I may not be able to participate but I wanted the goal and possibility out there. The idea of doing almost no training for next few months is hard to accept and makes me a bit sad. Enjoy training IMFL peeps! |

New user 239 Walterboro | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread A question for those who have done IMFL before. How does it work with the wetsuit strippers? I get that you lay down and they snatch it off of you but what about all the sand. It seems to me like running straight out of the water and laying down on the beach would make for an uncomfortable situation for the rest of the day. Sand has a way of finding its way to all kind of uncomfortable places. Just curious how it works. |

They are actually up the beach towards the hotel/transition area and they have indoor/outdoor type carpet down. But there is also a shower set up so you can get the salt water and sand rinsed off as well. You can move through there pretty quickly if you want to. It flows pretty smoothly. |

Expert 769 Murfreesboro, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Here's a picture of the showers the day before. If you look closely you can see a fire hose hooked to the showers. You slow down but keep moving while running down them. I have all my IMFL photos on my FB account. It should be an open account so feel free to check it out: Ironman Florida I and Ironman Florida II kenj - 2012-01-13 10:40 AM Wesley12 - 2012-01-13 11:37 AM A question for those who have done IMFL before. Expert 769 Murfreesboro, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I don't remember when they posted it last year. It seems like it was in the spring, but can't remember 100%. However, I do remember it only had the states listed. They did not list what city each participant was from. |

The volunteers there can strip wetsuits too. I always like to wait. I see no need to flop down into the sand and get filthy. But, it also depends on where you come out in the swim. If you are in the middle of the main pack there probably won't be room in the change tent, and the shower will get really crowded. If you come out before or after the main pack you have a LOT more time to rinse off and you can wait until the change tent to get your wetsuit stripped. |

Master 1704 Charlotte | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Schedule is kinda open this year due to 2 big money race trips (Big Sur and IMFL). Most races will be dependant on that month's money flow. April (Friday the 13th) - Moonlight 1/2 marathon (some crazy race I won an entry to that starts at 10:30 on Friday the 13th and runs in the dark to the top of a mountain and back. Why not. April 29th - Big Sur Marathon May - Over the Mountain Oly (maybe). June - Tri Latta spint (Maybe) July - Dewey Beach 5k (the only 5k I run anymore while on vacation). August - Lake Logan Olympic September - Probably either Cedar Point HIM or Augusta HIM. Nov - IMFL |

I came out of the water at 1:19, which I think was very close to mop. There was no room to set my bag down in the change room, much less remove a wet suit. I have no idea how crowded the women's room was, but the men's room was insane. I agree with Jennifer. If you are fast or slow you are probably ok waiting to get to the change rooms, but if you are mop I would stop at the wet suit strippers. |

Agree the change tent was a zoo but I did find a seat as soon as I walked in. I will not use the wetsuit strippers next year. I still had sand in my pants in the change area. I will wait until I get right before the change area and take it off (in the parking lot). I didn't like sitting down in the sand. enjoy, Duane |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Picked up my new Cervelo P2 today. OK it is a 2011 but was right out of the box! I used my $499 bike from Wal-Mart.com for my first 2 seasons and finished IMFL with it. I've been kind of looking and when the Cervelo deal came out I couldn't resist. Took some coordinating but I think it's worth it. This is a stock photo but mine is identical except for the seat. I was struggling because the seat looks good but ended up replacing with my ISM. I'll keep this one on the trainer and see if I like it and might end up putting it back on.

Veteran 867 Vicksburg | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Alright folks I am signing on to the thread. It is time to get off the couch and get to hurting, I mean training. A little about myself. IM Florida will be my second IM. I did Lake Placid this year for my first. Finished around the 12:40 range. After Placid I really lost alot of training motivation. I did one olympic the last week of August and just went off my Ironman training and was shocked how much fitness I lost in a month. I have ran some over the winter but stopped around Christmas for about 3 weeks. I am trying to get back in the swing of things and get motivated. I have started biking some and plan on trying to get back in shape enough to do Gulf Coast triathlon. I got to loose some weight too, I done put on around 15 pounds since Lake Placid.

Member 763 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread With respect to accomodations for IMFL...there's been alot of talk about various condo buildings, but are there also hotels in the area that are convenient for racers and spectators alike? Thanks. And on a completley different topic...are Wegman's half moon cookies part of anybody else's training diet? If not, I highly recommend them...ok, they're not good race food and I'm sure the frosting is full of all sorts of stuff I should avoid....but they're so good. I guess I'll have to go cold turkey soon, eh? Oh well, I guess they go on the list of foods to indulge on after I successfully finish IMFL. |

No wegmans in FL so bring em with you if you want them race day Don't know of any walking distance hotels aside from Boardwalk which 1-is probably sold out and 2-is kind of icky. Seriously you can get a condo withint walking distance fromt eh venuw for teh price of a hotel room and you have a kitchena nd washer.dryer and lots more room. I'd go condo. |
