Double Rainbow is a homemade video uploaded by YouTube user Hungrybear9562 in which he declares feelings of awe and wonder after witnessing a rare “double rainbow” in Yosemite National Park. In the video, he can be heard crying in the background, which was apparently inspired by the radiance and vividness of the rainbow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI Hockey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Opening Ceremony - didn't see it all - I liked the bit where they played British music from the decades but lots of it was very much only a hit in Britain not even the rest of Europe let along the US. Not sure why they did the history of Britain thing - you'd be hard ushed to top Athens on their history set! I'm biased having lived in Athens for 5 years and being married to a proud Greek - I loved their opening ceremony soooo much. Beijing was a spectacle too - funny how both these countries are in economic downward sprials - no doubt Britain next - Olympics = expensive. And I reiterate my pointg, Sir Paul McCartney - you need to retire. Problem livng in Australia - on the free to air channels (we don't have cable) all they show is events where Australia are competing with a hope and occasionally they will show something like any Phelps action. So I keep getting treated to dressage and other horsey events - yawn. Swimming I'm loving to watch - just their technique leaves me awestruck. 58secs to do 100m breaststroke - WTF!!! I can't run 100m that fast! Squad was busy last night - heading into August this week, all those people wanting to get their fitness back for summer turned up (lots of women!) I think the Olympics either inspires or drives people out of the house! We did sprint sets last night - 200m sprint, 200m recovery, 100m sprint 100m recovery, 50m sprint, 25m srpint etc. Enjoyed it. My lane buddy Robbie leaves for the UK on Wednesday so was his last squad. He's off to the mighty English Channel, Rich is already there. Fingers crossed for both. Whatever happens I hope they stay safe and well. Rich is only in his mid-twenties and Robbie is 61 looks abut 50. I'm rambling. Bye for now!

My boys were commenting how "slow" the breaststroke was. I told them I'd be happy to do ANY stroke in under a minute for 100m! It'll be interesting to hear how your friends do. I've never really paid much attention to the English Channel swimmers before but it has my interest now! Edited by rrrunner 2012-07-30 2:56 PM |

So cool!! Congrats to you both, sounds like it is a very beautiful, interesting area. Enjoy!! My weekend report, in a nutshell (see my training log/blog for more details): Sunset Stretch 5K: after a storm delay, we ran in the rain and were treated to a lovely double rainbow. It was a small race, under 100 racers. I not only got a recent running history 5K PR but I also won 2nd place in my AG! Granted there only were 3 or 4 of us 30-39 year olds (bigger AG due to small race size), but I will take it! Sunday I pre-rode the Rev3 Half Full course (32miles) in Maryland with a friend who is racing with me (this is the long story that is better told in my training log). Reader's Digest version: a good day (with the exception of my friend's minor crash) and we now both feel much better about the hills and know they aren't anything we can't handle. My friend especially was concerned about them but she did fine. A a lovely Fat Tire beer made us both feel even better when we stopped for lunch after the ride! CONGRATULATIONS MELANIE!!! |

It was 105 degrees when we finished. I think it was in the 100's for the last 40 miles or so. Riders were dropping like flies. I think those who set out at a 20 mph pace felt it later. I paced at 17-18 to begin with, payed dividends later when it got really hot. I have a much much greater appreciation now for those who tackle the full 140.6 distance. It was hard to comprehend how one could run 26.2 miles after a ride like that. I guess since I'm not trained for it is the main reason.....but still, you IM'ers are nuts! O.K. I'll be a nut someday also (peanut variety). Then of course after I get home my DD wanted to go to Worlds of Fun to ride roller coasters with her friend, who's moving to OK today so of course I say yes. Probably the best thing I could have done after that ride because my legs feel pretty good today. Have a great week everyone! ONE HUNDRED FIVE DEGREES?! WTF, I woulda told you not to do it then! Awesome job. |

![]() | ![]() So, more Olympics observations. I'm sorry. It's probably just my friends and I but we seem to notice all the awkward stuff but: 1. Aly Raisman's parents YIKES! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXmuyIGE6qU 2. How unnecessarily close the swim commentators stand?????? 3. Aussie women's beach volleyball: Bra on outside of shirt??? |

Too funny! I got to sit and listen to my FIL complain about the waste of money on the opening ceremonies What did you think of them? I felt that I was one of the few who thought they were great. I'll admit, they started out pretty slow but I really appreciated the refresher on British history haha. I love British humor as well so, extra points for that. Also, c'mon, let's stop comparing them to Beijing. That bar was set pretty high. I'm not a fan of British humor (sorry Allen) but it was only sprinkled in mildly. The production was hard to follow. Without the description from the announcers I don't think I would have understood what was going on (kids jumping on lighted beds?) but I did think it was well done. I love the march of the nations. It reminds "us" that we are all human and love doing what we do! The dresses and apparatus worn by the women displaying the country names were a bit odd... My 9 year old nephew was trying to pronounce the countries. That was funny! Ahhh c'mon, the sick kids and Mary Poppins!! I think that is what I loved is how there were all these subtle (and not so subtle) references to pop culture. Then again, I love pop culture too. I thought the opening ceremony was mostly a lot of fun - the bit with the queen and james bond was funny and showed she's a good sport; Mr. Bean in the chariots of fire bit; real doctors and nurses dancing in the salute the the national health bit; the forging of the rings etc. I did not like the frankie and june (or whatever their names were) bit. THe music was fun, but the story was a real yawn; plus i must have missed it but, the set up was the girl loses her cell phone and the boy finds it; he then contacts her by texting her. Um, he had her phone, how did that work??? Obviously, the parade of nations and lighting of the torch is always great. |
