March Totals:

Bike: 7 hr 05 min - 91 miles (guessing at mileage since majority of it is spin class, real bike rides are about 11 mph avg and spin is a bit faster..so I'm using a 13 mph avg)

Run: 6 hr 14 min 20 sec - 18.10 miles

Swim: 1 hr 20 min

I'm not even looking at the 2010 totals...yuck...ok, before anyone says anything...SWIM SWIM SWIM!! Yes, I know.

I finally got a run in tonight on my own for 2.4 miles and amazingly I was doing about a 12-13 min/mile..which I didn't realize I could even do that fast (for me that's fast)..I told my IM friend that I wanted to work on a 13 min/mile pace....dang! If that was on my own!!! So running with my friend has really forced me to slow down. I ran with her after my run and got an additional 2 miles in that averaged a 16:30 min/mile..bleh...but we did hills so that was a good workout.

I'm planning on a 20 mile ride Saturday with a 3-4 mile run afterwards..it's supposed to be 80 degrees this weekend!

Mind if I post my weight after my WW weigh in Saturday?? I never like to weigh myself until my meeting..makes me paranoid..LOL

Sign up for Iron April 2010.  "Iron April is an event that challenges the athlete to cover an Ironman distance triathlon during the month of April.  So, you have 30 days to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles.  Feel free to join if you are interested.  Just click add race, search US, CA, 4/30/10 and you'll find the Iron April 2010 event."

This is from a post in the California forum.  I don't know why it is a California race.  I signed up.

Kir just had her workout logs with those miles entered (for April Fools). She came back to earth and changed it back so it doesn't say those totals anymore.

Kate,

I have a video session in a couple of weeks....waiting for feedback from that.  I did my swim today and the guy who filled in last summer for the dud was there.  He made 3 suggestions to me to help the catch and follow through that seemed to help a lot.  I might consider private lessons with him if needed....have to check on the finances.  This isn't cheap for a 2 RN salary household!!

Awesome Judi!  I want to be taped too.  I can't wait to hear how it goes.  Glad the new guy helped out.  Maybe do your self training and let him help out every now and then with a private lesson?

Hi can I join your group? I'm planning on doing a HIM next year and I love a good challenge. I have been reading this thred and even though I'm not actually on a HIM training plan yet I would like to be considered a nutso.

I'm Heather I will be 30 September 5th and I have decided this will be my best year yet. I will have lost 80 pounds by then become a triathlete and then during what will be a great year I will be doing a 3 day breast cancer walk, a marathon at some point and HIM. I'm a SAHM to my two daughters 3 years as of Sunday and a 9 month old. Ok I guess they need me but I will be back in a few.

Hi Heather! Welcome!

Looks like we are about the same weight and both aiming for 150. Congrats on your loss so far that's great!

What tris have you done so far? Or is the one in April your first?

Anyway, even though you're not aiming for one until next year I don't think it matters we started this group last year when most of us weren't doing one until this year.

I'm not sure why I didn't have you on the spreadsheet.  Incompetence, I guess.  Sorry about that.  Anyway, give me your totals for January and February and I will add them.  Also, give me an estimate as to yardage for the swim.  We are keeping track in distance, not time.  Thanks.

Welcome Heather.  If you want to join the weight loss challenge, make sure you give Kate your starting weight as of Wednesday (weigh-in day).  I think that's right (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

We also have a challenge to see who can get to 2010 miles by running (or hiking or walking), biking, and swimming.  Feel free to join, although you are three months behind.  But if you have totals for Jan-Mar, let me know and I will add you to the spreadsheet.

I am almost done with the spreadsheet and I just have one thing to say.  If Kiri thinks she is going to stay in the lead for long, she is sadly mistaken.

And that's without the April Fools numbers.

I got all these books on how to train for an Ironman and I can safely say that by the time of my Ironman, I will know how to train for it.  Too much information.  Too many words.

Leah and Kir neck and neck! Woot.

I probably won't catch up to you girls before you hit the 2010 mark because we don't really start ramping up the times/distances big time until June... maybe late May... Although, I did look ahead at next weeks schedule and I have a 2.5 hr bike followed by a 30 min run. I'm nutso though... cause I'm looking forward to these longer workouts. I feel like I've not been training for IM yet.

I now have the philosophy that a good base is more important than these huge, long distance workouts.  I know that's over-simplification, but a good endurance base is key.

I ordered my new bike this afternoon and will have it in about ten days.  It is a blue and white Look 576.  My bike guy will be doing stuff to it when it comes, including putting on a compact crank.  He says that there will be no more walking up hills.  OK, so I walked uphill in my old bike.  But if I walk uphill with my new bike, I better have a tube in my hand and a broken collarbone.

I am very excited.

Welcome Heather!!  This is a nice little group.  Tell more about yourself!

Debb - I have a feeling that your numbers will sky rocket now that your weather is getting nicer out.  Plus you have your big races coming up.  You might catch them!!

Leah - I've been researching too.  Too much info out there.  I'm close to having a plan. I'm going to have to look up your bike now!  Awesome!

Great job everyone on your numbers!  I love the 2010 challenge!  Leah and Kiri are kicking BUTT!

My week off is coming to an end and I'm ready to ramp it up again.  Ron and I are going on a 60+ mile ride on Sunday morning.  Should be a great day for a long ride.

Hoping Lisa is OK... does anyone know anyone who knows her personally? I assume she's just nursing injury but it's unlike her not to check in.

Jud - Where did you ride?

Kate - Hope your week was restful - The long ride sounds like fun. Weather is finally getting nice to ride out here on most days. A little chilly on today's ride but still not bad.

Leah - OooOo nicccccce! I've been looking at bikes too. I found one that's a really good deal, but alas we have house repairs to do so I think tri bike might not be in the cards this year.

Everyone else - Anything interesting going on this weekend? We don't really do anything for Easter so mine will be spent doing a Brick (2hr bike, 25 run)

Weight - 211 (down another 4.4..whoo hoo!!)

Did a 21 mile bike ride and a 5 mile run this morning...and stupidly didn't plan my food before hand so it was all on a Luna bar then after the ride I drank some GU Recovery and had a Clif Shot...and of course at about mile 3.5 of my run my stomach started gurgling and the porta-potty at mile 1 is the most used on the trail because people only really go up to Mile 2 for leisurely walks, etc...NASTY..so I waited....but it was a good Brick today!

I'm a little sore now but not too bad. Going to swim tomorrow if I can get to the gym before they close, tonight the beau is treating me to BBQ!!! Glad I had that brick this morning!! Mac-n-cheese, pulled pork, sausage and collard greens!!! YUMMY!!

Local tri-shop just posted they have new Bont riding shoes in...they look pretty nice, may have to have a look because my shoes are more for road riding and SUCK for transition!!! Anyone have any recommendations??

Happy Easter everyone!

I rode about 33-1/2 miles today, not the 58 I had originally planned.  But this is supposed to be base-building month, right?  Last time I did that ride I was toast.  I think during base-building you are supposed to push yourself, but not kill yourself.  So, I took the mileage down.  The portion of PCH I did was the hilliest, and the ride was challenging, but very doable.  Of course, stopping for lunch along the way helped.  The pictures that I think will be attached to this message show my view from this outdoor patio of an upstairs restaurant.  These are just cell phone pictures.

As for Lisa, I think she is gone.  I posted a message on her Facebook page and while she isn't an excessive user of Facebook, there have been entries subsequent to my message and she hasn't answered me.  I don't think we did anything to tick her off.  Maybe she just found it was consuming too much of her time.  I wish she had said "goodbye," though.  Lisa, if you are reading this, we're sorry if we did something to annoy you.

Keeley, Debb and Judi - And what's up with all these early season bricks!!

I don't know anything about shoes.  As you can tell from my transition times, I haven't gotten shoes with transition in mind.  Tell us the virtues of Bont shoes.
