Wow I thought things were looking up now reality is setting in. Gas is in very short supply and the lines at stations that have gas are really long. I filled everything up before the storm and wife was able to fill up yesterday. The stores were pretty barren yesterday also.

On the bright side I have a good excuse to ride my bike more.Laughing

Its amazing what is going on down there Adam.  There have been news articles showing the lines of people trying to get gas waiting hours only to have the station run out before they get to the pump.

Hopefully progress is being made in getting the power back up and the roads that are blocked reopened.

We have very few people lose their power around here, but it was very localized and many of them are still without electric.

There are a lot of people still without power. Some areas are kind of isolated and the main lines were just shredded along w/ the utility poles. They could be out for who knows how long.

Bad time of the year for this also.....It's starting to get a little chilly out there.

Thanks Ken!

Adam, sorry to hear you were effected so much be the storm.

It is hot today in Panama City Beach and supposed to be warmer tomorrow.  The water was really rough yesterday and while not like glass, better today.  I was actually able to swim.  I am not a fan of the up and down motion of ocean swimming but hopefully I will be so focused on other things  that I won't queasy.

I guess there is no turning back now.

I am using the athletelive tracking device. My goa is to just finish but if I get under 15:30 that would be great.  I know that is slow for some but for me that would be wonderful.

I did a short run two days ago and ran the fasted I ever have.  Something to be said for living in CO and racing at sea level

You should really see the benefit of that on the bike, add in the fact that you are used to riding hills that are non-existent on that course and you should be pleasantly surprised on the bike.  Nice thing with racing this timing of this event is the temps should cool off pretty quick for the run as the sun sets early this time of year.

My guess is you are going to surprise yourself!

Both Kathleen and Wesley are out on the bike!! Wesley about mile 17 and Katheen just getting started.  I don't know if the tracking time includes T1 in the swim time or if the gulf was rough this morning as their swim times aren't as fast as I expected.

Both moving well on the bike though!!

Too bad on the rough seas!  They are both doing great on the bike though!!  Wesley just went through special needs and Kathleen is just about there!

So Carla, what are you doing in the morning?

Hi All!
Today was brutal!  I had a mini race report typed for posting and then my computer froze. The swim was horrble! I got very seasick and really didn't think I woud make it. I will leave out the gorey details but I spent much of the second loop holding on to Kayaks (not a great option when you are seasick) and surf boards. I also spent a good amount of time on my back trying to control the nausea. Almost everyone I spoke to had similair or worse experiences. It was really hot and humid today which made the bike tough, especially when not feeling well enough to eat or drink anything. I spent tons of time at the bike aid stations pouring water over my head to try and coool down. I could only walk the run due to how bad I was feeling but was able to keep a pretty steady pace in order to beat the clock. My legs paid the price and I can hardly stand on them (not used to walking 26 miles at a "fast clip" ) but I did make it to the finish in time. A really tough day at the office!

The IMFL swim has now taken the place of the the IMAZ swim as the most tramatic swim I have ever done.

Thanks for all of the support.  I had a rough one yesterday as well.  Had some brutal legs cramps on the bike at about mile 80 -85.  My nutrition just didn't agree with me today.  That with the lovely head wind made for a very bad ride.  I was 1 - 1.5 mph below what my average should have been on the bike.  Then after the cramps on the bike, you can only imagine how run turned out.  I probably lost a hour on the bike, a hour on the run and at least 15 minutes on the swim based on my training.  But with all of the whining, in the words of my coach "Ironman doesn't tickle!".  I'm still very happy to have finished my first ironman.

The winds on that course are a challenge most years, but the warmer than normal weather, rough gulf certainly made for a challenging day!

Again Wesley, congrats!!  Recover well!

So Ken, now that tri season is pretty well wrapped up, except for one little thing left on my plate ;-), what's the plan for the group board? Do you know if it will close, or go on hiatus? If it does close, I'd love it if you let me know if you start another. This has been great! Thanks for all the insight and keeping things moving.

If it does stay open, I'd be happy to stay active with it, but I think I need to swear off the "big boards" for a while. There's a lot of good info out there, but it can really suck up time, when your not disciplined enough to "just say no" to 4+ page items.

When will you find out on the running Brian?  REV3 has some nice iron distance races that won't sell out for a while if at all.  Cedar Point isn't too far from you is it?

I don't know if the decision has been made yet or not.  They put the request for feed back up there and keeping these open was a pretty popular idea, but it isn't difficult to start a new one and post the link to the new one here before it goes public.  I'll keep posting and replying as long as you guys want.  As a mentor, I like to get everyone through their A race at least and the past 2 years that has been IMAZ so we go right about till the new ones start in December.

I don't think that Kathleen or Wesley did as they were both looking at different IM's next year, Carla hasn't answered if she did or not.  She has done IMFL a couple of times I believe.

There wasn't a doubt once I got back in the pool that I was going to make another attempt! Tongue out  Although 2 iron distance races and 2 HIM's next year is far and away the most I have taken on so I may have a different opinion on whether it was a good idea or not by this time next year!!
