Yeah I read that thread on ST a few months ago.  Just not sold on it.  I know that just because pro's do it, it doesn't make it right, but they almost all use aero-drinks, only seen the pro's that post on ST use that setup.

Also you still have to get out of aero to drink from it I believe so not sure what the overall benefit is, other than looking cool.

Tony I agree, and would never use one, but if her bottle is hitting her tire, it is another option.

Tracy,  If I remember you have 2 bottles behind your seat, 2 on your frame... THAT IS MORE THAN ENOUGH... They make actually be over kill?  I wouldn't be 2 concerned about the aero bottle...

Day 2 on the CT, still having fun!  I picked the "W" course that Steve recommended, I think.  There is this big honking hill the last several miles which made me realize I have a lot of work to do if I want to go over several of these in the same day.

Bad news is my Garmin Edge cadence and speed died.  It worked fine on Tuesday.  Can someone tell me some possible solutions? battery? something else?  It isn't even a year old yet.

Tony, two quickies.  How do you find the CT reports after you save them?  How do you download the files from the URL you gave us yesterday. My PC doesn't seem to have a program for them or am I just being stupid?

I'm not worried about the amount of liquid, it was just cool to have and use the aero bottle on the road.  I don't use the back of the seat bottle holders for much more than holding my tire repair kit (I have a kit that is shaped like a watterbottle to fit in the cage) and for holding extra water when it is 100+ degrees in the summer.  It is also a pain to get in and out of the back cages when riding.  I usually take the back cages off during a race anyway.

Yes Suzy that is the course... It is a good one.  All around good workout.

Tracy I get it.  You can also carry a pouch on your stem to put your stuff for flats in there....

Suzy, a few weeks ago, similar thing was happening to me w/ my Garmin.  I thought it was the unit and did this whole master re-set...but it turns out it was just the little magnet that is on the wheel that had died.  I figured it out because it was happening with my trainer wheel but not my outdoor wheel (I have a magnet on both).  Check that first, maybe see if you can borrow one from someone or go to an LBS where they might sell the little magnet and have them try it.  Easy solution in my case.

On a separate note, are we posting here or in the other thread from now on?  Just wondering...

I would spend some money on good tools!  It is amazing how often you are actually tightening things, or loosening them up...

Sorry, missed this pist.

Reports are under c:\program files\(Can't remember name of 3d directory)\reports

They are HTML documnets, I just copy and paste the table into my comments field at the bottom of my blog.  It won't paste into the little bike comments box that one doesn't allow HTML or any kind of formatting.

Just right click those courses from the CT site and select save as.  and save them to c:\program files\(Can't remember name of 3d directory)\courses

They will then show up when you load the 3d program.

If you can't find them let me know, I am at work so don't have the exact directory names in front of me.

Stuff I have for bike maintenance

1. Torque wrench - The most expensive tool for a bike but if you have a carbon bike IMO they are invaluable.  Everything on a bike has a torque number that it should be tightened to.  Yes you can do it by feel but I would rather not learn correct feel by crushing part of my frame.  You can get allen wrench attachments for them to pretty much use them on every bike part

2. Good Allen wrenches, those little 3 prong ones are nice

3. Lots of rags, lol I go through them regularly in cleaning my bikes

You may already have this, but I really like the CO2 cartridges for a quick tire inflate.  I keep a pump at home for tapping off before I go for a ride, but the cartridges work great for a full tire fill.  Get a good gear cleaner/degreaser.  Cleaned my chain for the first time in a LONG TIME last night - I am embarrased to say - and it really needed it.

Is it true that you can use Simply Orange? We have tons of it from Home depot...we use it to clean the stovetop and hood.

Orange extas work great on most things, just be sure to wash it all off.  I think it can damage some parts (don't know which) if left on too long.  I watched the training video on cleaning your bike chain, the newest one posted on BT home page, and it gave me a few new good pointers.  Used the WD-40 for a lubricant and it worked nice.  Good video.

LOL, just got back from my first group ride.  I have been riding for years but never done so with a group.  I consider myself a good rider, I finish in the top 1/4 usually in my AG on the bike, pretty decent power numbers, etc.  I rode with the 3rd group which was supposed to be 18-20 mph, at least 50 or so people in the group it seemed to me.  I got dropped like a dress on prom night....

I figured out a bit too late that you have to accelerate when the group does or gaps open up and you have to work 2x as hard to catch back up.  After having to catch back up for the 20th time you tend to get a bit dead legged.  Also completely not used to drafting,  in tri's you have that reaction if you get close to automatically drop back, not a good instinct on a group ride.

I was with a group of 4-5 that got separated at a light and we ended up taking a wrong turn and completely lost the group.  This actually worked out better for me because we all kept taking turns pulling and just made a single file pace line.  Much easier to practice with 4-5 people than 50.

I can't wait to go back next week and see how I do.  Main plan is to plant my wheel on someone in front of me and move when they do.

Wheel sucking is not a bad thing!  When I ride with a new group or group that I think might be stronger, I find a good wheel and just try to hang on.  Try to avoid pulling until you know you are good to go.  I have made the mistake before...wanting to impress and give a good pull and when the pull is over not have the legs left to stay in and accel to keep up ... see ya!  Our group typically will go for a while then check up and wait a bit for the stragglers to catch up...No man left behind.

Yeah definitely a case of live and learn.  Next time I will try to ride a bit smarter so I don't have to ride as hard.  Would have loved to have my PT on that bike last night to see how many watts I was pushing out to have to catch back up.

There's a big difference between riding in a group of 4-5 people vs a pelaton of 40+.  The smaller groups do a good job of forming a draft line and taking turns pulling at the front, where as riding in a very large group can be more dangerous. It depends on the skill of the riders, their reaction times, how well they can hold a line, and whether or not you want to be in the front.  The further you are to the back, the more accordianing (?) there is.  Personally I prefer the smaller groups, but there is a lot to be learned from both types of riding.

Had a great run last night. Set another PB. Did my longest and fastest distance run.  11 miles (well, almost Wink) at a 10:34 pace.  That is 10 seconds faster than my pace the last time I ran 10 miles.  I am very pleased.  HIM in 22 days and I am feeling stronger all the time.
