Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dunno what's with the bricks. I just do as told. Gotta put trust in the plan right? I think she really just wants us to really know what it feels like to run off the bike. Especially during harder bike session when the legs are quite tired. I agree with the whole building the base thing. My coach says you don't want to get to peak fitness too early... not sure what that means for those of us who have/had a long way to go though to get to IM fitness. I assume some of it's to prevent burn-out and over training as well. Some times my rides go longer then written but I try not to over-shoot by too much. That is odd that she didn't respond to you Leah. Great photo! It's 55 here and it looks nice and warm there! Keel woo hoo on the weight loss!!! I don't have thoughts on shoes as I've really only had one pair and they are bike shoes not tri shoes... Sidi's They have worked out really well for me, but I was fit for them when I got my bike fit done. Mac and Cheese? You're making me hungry. I had salad for dinner ![]() |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I did the brick because of the race in 2 weeks, wanted to get used to a run off the bike again. I can ride fast or I can run fast, the way today went I won't have both for my race. We shall see.....
I rode in my neighborhood, then over to the high school and back on my tri bike. I love riding the Blue but am soooo skittery in aero on those roads. No real bike lane or shoulder for most of it. Edited by QueenZipp 2010-04-03 8:18 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good stuff going on our there!! Great job all you Brickers!! Great weighloss Keeley! Thanks for the pictures Leah! We had two soccer games this morning (SO CUTE!!), colored Easter Eggs, cleaning, hair cut, and now getting ready for a big bike ride tomorrow morning. (followed by easter bunny duties later) We think we will do around 60-70 miles. Should be nice. Might just be me and hubby. Today was hubby's birthday so I haven't been eating too great. As part of the celebration we bought matching bike jerseys. I'm so excited about it. Our big race is next Saturday. It will be funsville! I love the big bike races. So many people and the roads are all secure for the bikers. Pretty cool. Keep up the great work ladies. Tomorrow starts my road to the Ironman!! |

What will the new name? They don't really close. They just get too wide and hard to follow. As for name....Since we refer to ourselves as NUTSO's we could use that or Am I Nuts part 2....Look over in the Challenge forum.....there are 2 teams been around forever Nibbs and Ghoulies. They just start new threads with their name and a new number assignment. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, my 60-70 mile ride turned into a 20 mile ride. My hubby went on but I got the momma guilts leaving the kids on Easter. It turned out great though. I got my work out in, hubby got a long ride, and the kids had a great morning. The kids and I even went on a 4 mile ride. My little guy is spent but he had a fun time. Now, I'm going to get our meal together. Hope you all have a great day. Edited by ~ AZ Sunshine ~ 2010-04-04 12:18 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree that the new thread ought to have "Nutso" in the header. We also ought to start out with an explanatory post and refer people to this original thread if they want the history. It's crazy, but apparently there are people who stumble in here and read the entire thread. Of course, then they leave screaming in pain. And speaking of that, where are you, Heather?? I know about calories and all, but I have this theory that almonds don't have any calories, no matter what the package says. What do you think? In other words, can I eat all the almonds that I want, whenever I want (and have no adverse consequences)? My cadence sensor had quit working and this was a problem for me. Well, the problem has been solved. My bike guy took it apart and cleaned it out and stuff and now it works. Since it worked before and during that miserable race I did on March 7 in the freezing rain and not after, we think that it also didn't like being out in those conditions. Something to remember the next time any of you are foolishly out on your bikes in the rain. I am rather enjoying my April Base-Building Month. Not only has it been good so far physically, but something I didn't expect was how good it feels mentally. I think that is because I am not continuing to try to go harder and go further, push, push push, but backing off and this has been kind of liberating. I understand that there is a time and place for push, push, push, but I think there is also value in backing off a bit from time to time. Hey, by the time I am dead, I will probably have this whole thing figure out. Sorry about your 60 miles ride turning into 20, Kate, but (see above) that might not be a bad thing. In fact, it is probably a good thing. I can't wait to get my new bike. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sounds like most of us had to cut one of our long runs/rides this week. Life has a knack of getting in the way some times, but I think that once in awhile it's not a big deal we are all consistent enough that it shouldn't make a big difference. Like the idea of a explanation-link to this original post in the new nutso thread. I wonder if we should move it to the groups/challenges section too? I kinda like it in weight loss section, but I wonder if people get sick of seeing it there. Getting ready for my ride today... Think I may go outdoors even though I don't have a hilly place to ride today, but haven't fully decided yet. I did do some research though and it looks like I may be able to take the Metra train out to the burbs for some hills. One of the guys in our group sent us a cue sheet for a 64 mile ride he did one time in Barrington IL. The Metra is about 2.5 miles from the "start" point. I'm a bit leery of going out there alone, very far from home though especially since I don't know the area at all. Cracked open my Infinite to try out this afternoon. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think I would rather keep it here. I think if it is in the Challenge section we will get more people who flit in and flit out. I like the fact that we are more or less constant. I'm good with people joining (less good with people leaving - Lisa, where are you?), but overall this group has been pretty consistent. |

![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() True. May be easier for people to find too who more fit the group... Plus I just like it here. Lisa come home! Hope she's OK. I know getting hurt can be really demoralizing, and I know I'm guilty of disappearing from BT when things started going down hill too (Ask Judy... her and Kathy were kind enough to let me into a closed mentor group then I went AWOL) but as long as she knows she's welcome and doesn't have to be working out or whatever. Still haven't decided outside/inside today. If I don't decide soon I'll be stuck inside for an oh so lovely 2hr trainer ride. I just spent an hour looking for my 2nd bottle cage. Finally found it. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() IdealMuse - 2010-04-02 10:00 AM Hi Heather! Welcome! Looks like we are about the same weight and both aiming for 150. Congrats on your loss so far that's great! What tris have you done so far? Or is the one in April your first? Anyway, even though you're not aiming for one until next year I don't think it matters we started this group last year when most of us weren't doing one until this year. My first tri is this Sat it's Escape from Ft Desoto- .5 mile swim, 10 mile bike and 4 mile run. My weigh in for 4/1/10 was 184.2. Also I would like to join the 2010 challenge but I will have to look around and see if i can find my logs for the last 3 months worst case I have to start late and work a little harder. I went and tried out my wetsuit for the first time today and it rocks. Bad news today is my daughter's 3rd birthday and she got hurt while we were there and we had to come home early. |

Yesterday was my daughter's birthday party/ Easter egg hunt and there were 25 adults, 12 toddlers and 5 babies at my house all day so I have been busy planning for that but I'm back now and getting ready for my first ever tri on Sat. |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I took my road bike up to Performance for a spring tune up. He took the pedals off my dead hybrid and put them on the road bike. I know he's got to replace the brake pads and is going to re do bar tape for me. I let him know the chain was replaced last spring but I rode over 3000 miles last year so have a look at all the components as the chain is the only replaced part on the bike in 4 years. There's a wheel that needs a bit of truing as well.... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I grab 6-10 almonds 2-3 times a day. I frequently don't count them in my calorie count. I think this means they have no calories. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have Louis Garneau Tri Air 2. I got them at Performancebike on sale with extra % off so they were less than $100. They are perfectly acceptable and have lots of venting (good in summer, not so good in winter even with the "hot" footbeds included). I plan on riding them to the ground and then maybe replacing them with something more expensive - like Specialized trivents... My specialized road shoes are still going strong after 4 years of heavy riding. KiwiJDRPH Local tri-shop just posted they have new Bont riding shoes in...they look pretty nice, may have to have a look because my shoes are more for road riding and SUCK for transition!!! Anyone have any recommendations?? Happy Easter everyone! |

It's exciting to be doing your first triathlon. I can't wait to hear how you did. Yes, do look for your logs for Jan-Mar because that is a lot of ground to have to make up. I'm sorry your daughter got hurt today. I hope she will be fine soon. If your daughter turned three today, she is nineteen days older than my granddaughter who will be three on April 23. That is such a great age. Scott, one of our group, has a daughter that is a little younger. It seems to me she turned two last fall. Little girls are so much fun. Boys are OK too. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Welcome back Heather. I remember those 3 year old days. ROUGH! Hope she wasn't injured to badly. Lisa: I think that Lisa will return. I have her personal cell but I'm scared to call. Doesn't that break the internet friend "code"? Maybe I'll shoot her text. Diet: So my first week of April diet didn't go well. Hubby's birthday and Easter threw me for a loop. I will do better this week. I feel pretty good though. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry. Got distracted and wanted to pad a bit! hee hee Training Plan: So tomorrow starts my first week of Ironman Training. Here is what my training plan and goals are. (1) I am going to start off using the OLY 12 week HR plan here on BT and then jump into the IM training plan. I'm hoping I can learn to train more efficiently by using my HR monitor. Training for my HIM, I mainly just looked at the times on the schedule and tried to meet those. This time i want to really look at the work outs and be smarter about what I am doing. The OLY plan also adds some strength training. This should help. (2) I am going to supplement the plan with my long rides and runs. I'd like to keep my current level of distance and build from here. (3) I am going to meet with the tri coach to work on my cycling technique. (4) I am going to work on getting more sleep and getting up in the morning to do my work outs. Too many excuses in the morning. (5) I am really going to work on weight loss. Twenty pounds will help so much! (More would be better but I don't want to be greedy.) A big change I am making is to cut out the junk sugars and carbs and add more fruit and veggies. (6) I need to log much more swim time. I think the Masters would really help me. I'm going to have to break down and do it. I will also supplement that with the private lessons here and there. Races: I do not want to over race this season. This fall I felt like I had too much scheduled. This season I'm going to do this 72 mile ride next week, an OLY in May, a 90 mile ride in June, an OLY in Sept, a 150 mile ride in early Oct, and a HIM in mid Oct. Wish me luck!! It is going to be a long journey! |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello All - hope everyone had a great Easter. We went to Pueblo for the weekend so we got some biking and hiking in but nothing I logged...although I should have been smart enough to bring my garmin. I am thinking about bailing on the HIM in July in Wisconsin and doing one in September in Colorado. My training has been so lackluster due to my work schedule and stress that I don't think I can get in the miles. I would like to do a Sprint while back in Wisconsin but there seem to be so few in Southeast Wisconsin. I am leaving for Wisconsin on Wednesday so today and tomorrow are sucking. I also just got trial dates for a 5 day trial that are either two weeks before or the week of the HIM I am looking at in September. That also sucks. I am going to try something new this week and that is to lose weight while I am back in Wisconsin as opposed to putting on 5lbs due to the food I love to eat. Talk to you guys soon.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Your program sounds great, Kate. Mine is in its final tweaking stages and should be done tomorrow. I had my Bike Marker session today. I think I did pretty well. The coach seemed to think so, but maybe this was just part of the rah rah program. First he had to calibrate the Computrainer for both me and my bike. This was not without difficulty and was not a strong recommendation for the Computrainer. But once we got going, it was fine. It was a 10 mile flat course and I was supposed to give it my all. Fortunately, all that cadence training paid off and I was able to maintain a pretty consistent 92-93 rpm cadence throughout. I averaged close to 20 miles per hour and my average watts was 157. I don't have any way of knowing whether 157 is pathetic or average or what. He seemed pretty pleased with it. I did point out that I could not translate that to the road and he assured me that by November I would be able to. I soooo wasted money these last six months with my bike coach. If I had just worked with this guy once a month, it would have been far more productive and cost $95 instead of $275. Even though I have only been once, I feel that this is going to be one of the best things I ever did for my biking. Other than getting out there and riding and getting an indoor trainer. Anyway, he gave me three pretty basic workouts to do and I forgot to tell him that April was base-building month so I guess I better get cranking on my biking. When I told him what my new bike was, he did raise his eyebrows all impressed. That's reassuring because I didn't really have a choice in what bike I got. My bike guy researched it and determined the best value for me at my level. So, that's my update. What did everyone else get in today? |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Scott - if you don't feel like you are going to get the training in, I vote to push it back. I feel like I trained but still think I should have done more. If you don't put in the time you will have a miserable experience. I know you can do a HIM, but you need to give yourself a chance to do it well. |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My pool was closed today cause of lightning. Sigh....I did spend some time talking to Bill....think I may scrounge up the cash to pay for a few private lessons. He is one who knows that if a swimmer "isn't getting it" that he has to change the approach. |
