Crazy morning. As Reece said, our weather was very wet this morning. Not just wet -- tremendous lightning storm on my way to the race. I delayed leaving, thinking they might cancel. I got there at 7:30, the time when the race was to start. Walked in to the pre-race meeting, inside, with everyone looking a little grim. The race director threatened to have us 15k people run the 5k loop three times, to keep us close to town, and off the heights (not a good place to be with lightning strikes). There wasn't exactly a rebellion, but there were two dozen very grumpy people.

In the end, she decided to let us run the original route, but threatened us that she would pull us off the course if the weather turned bad. We started at 7:40.

Thankfully, the weather didn't turn bad again. It was actually a beautiful morning for a run. Very humid, but 62 degrees. The sun even tried to come out at one point. It sprinkled on me for about five minutes near the end.

I'm a little emotional and tired. Salty -- I ran the whole hill. I got up in a little over six minutes (half a mile), ran my little loop at the top, walked for a few seconds while I drank some water, and then flew back down the hill -- half a mile in less than 5 minutes (Thanks, Yanti). Seriously, I passed some guy as I flew down, and it really did feel like I was flying by him.

My pace stayed up for the final 4 miles. ("up" by my standards)

We were on paved road for the first half mile (or so), the road up and down the hill -- poorly asphalted; I actually found dirt to run on in the middle of the road -- and the last two miles. The rest of it was on Kansas sandy, dirt rural roads. Just what I love.

I made my goal with 20 seconds to spare. And I wasn't DFL.

Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!  You totally owned that hill!  Congrats on making your goal time, too.  Nice.

Just watched Jackie from my Masters Swim come across the line in 12:15:xx.  So cool to watch someone you know

My 10km tonight was great.  My nephew did a great job.  But, equally impressive was my SIL.  They ran an 8km 2 weeks ago, with walk breaks.  That was the furthest she had done.  Tonight, she ran the entire 10k!  So proud of both of them.  I'll get a RR up later.  Best of all--it POURED rain earlier today.  It POURED rain on the way home.  But the entire race, it was dry!  Weather angels were watching over us!

Sounds like the running gods were looking out for you!  Big congrats to you, your nephew and your SIL.  Very cool to read about your pride in their accomplishments.

Our game went pretty well last night, especially for being short-handed.  We lost 3-2; the other team had 38 shots, my team had 19, and the hockey gods were definitely looking out for me at least twice when it seemed like the puck was going in the net but somehow didn't.  Whew!!  This season we have a new coach and it seems what he has been working with us at practice is working.  The attitude started and stayed positive last night (some of the girls get a bit of a defeatist attitude in low numbers games) which I feel was one of the biggest reasons we did well.  That and the grit of some of the girls who got mega ice time to help some of the other girls get a break.

Yanti - ice hockey terms for my position include: netminder, goalie, goalkeep or goalkeeper, goaler but most frequently goalie.

During the third period I was thinking of you guys and thought, 'Manatees on Ice' and set into a laughing fit.

And I didn't fall once because of my new skates, YAY!!! (I fell at least 3x because of them at practice the other night)  If I knew before how bad my old skates really were, I'd have ditched them way before now.  It is so nice having new skates!!!

Way to conquer that hill and finish strong Felicia!  I used the hour by hour forecast on weather.com and found an hour between 1 and 2 that looked "mild" so I headed out at 1:00.  At about mile 7.7 of my 8 miles it started coming down hard. Other than that it was perfect, just a little sprinkling.

Melanie!  38 Shots on Goal and only 3 got in!!!!  That's great nettending, not to be confused with netpretending Smile

Gotta watch slap shot again, love the Hanson brothers ...

I'm going to try and run 20 today, wish me luck!

Mel, great job on the game!  I agree, a positive attitude makes all the difference out there.  Manatees on Ice had me thinking about the Figure Skating productions I was in as a kid...I was Tinkerbell once in a production of Peter Pan....***shudder***

Reece, good luck on the 20 today!

OK, I'm not going to beat around the bush - I'm TOTALLY OBSESSED with this Stratos thing and that cutie piglet, Felix!!  If you haven't seen what he did today, google 'felix space jump' or something close and prepare to be amazed.  It's THE coolest thing I've seen in a long time ... or probably EVER!.  I've even heard people compare it to watching the men walk on the moon in the 60s ... totally awesome.  I'm SO glad he's safe and it all worked out today!

Tracy, I agree, it was pretty fascinating.  When he was in free fall, and you could see his glowing white figure spinning, I was worried he was going to lose control; all of a sudden he stops spinning and is just falling straight--amazing!  It was pretty wild to watch the whole 'checklist' thing and see him come out the door.  He just jumped like it was no big deal.

Um I've been waiting to obsess about this to you guys (and comment on all the Manatee shenanigans this weekend) until I had a keyboard and not my phone but OMG I have been following stratos a long time and literally jumped up and down squealing while watching the live feed. That was breath taking!!!

Bac to my fear(ish) of heights; I have cliff jumped (into water) from about 40' or so and I think about that sensation standing on the edge. It's not even within the realm of my imagination to comprehend 120,000 feet. The edge of effing space!

check this out - if it doesn't work just go to youtube and check out Joseph Kittinger.  This guy did much the same thing in 1960 - with none of the gizmos!  Apparently he felt bones breaking on the way up because he didn't have an adequate pressure suit.  And after he landed he had a cigarette - cool as you like!

What's the go with adrenaline junkies!!!

Whenever I used to go off diving boards etc as a kid I found the best thing was just climb up and walk off the edge, I never stopped to look down or over - if I did, never happened!

I believe it was Kittinger who was talking Baumgartner through the ascent and going over the pre-jump checklist.  Thought that was pretty cool.

Good morning, all! I'm feeling a little fuzzy today. Post race low, I guess. I'm not sure. I took Jayson on a bike ride yesterday afternoon, and I felt fine while we were riding. My quads are still a little sore, but the niggle in my left knee has gone away. I'm hoping to get out for a short, easy run this afternoon after school.

Nice work!!!Were you wearing a thong outside your pads? Tell your team Salty said they need to take some of the pressure off the net and get their shots on goal up OR ELSE! Smile

Oh yeah, sooo my cousin and I toured the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility this weekend. 149 mills and 2 solar arrays. We got to go inside one of the turbines (and unfortunately were not allowed to actually scale the 221 foot ladder, even after bribes.)

Also, all the trails around the property are open for running, too. Which is pretty cool. Well, ok, most people use them to bike or horseback ride but of course I have one train of thought.
