Feeling sorry for myself now - my cold picks up strength in the afternoon keep choking on a dry cough

I refrained from running at lunchtime and I won't do the drainer either tonight, time to rest and recover for a day at least.  Tomorrow i've got Pilates and swimming so that's okay.

Nearly hometime....

Artemis' spelling homework was a list of words with 'ea' in the middle - my poem started thusly:

The teacher's name was Mr Bean, he kept his desk very clean
He like to drink hot peach tea, that made his glasses fog with steam.

Should be working should have run - instead I'm following a little dot on a map which is the boat accompanying Grant across the Channel.  The rules are very strict - no wetsuit, speedoes a cap and goggles and as much grease/lard on your body as required to keep warm and sunscreen as it's now summer time!  Your crew can feed you via a rope and a stick and hook etc.  If the pilot deems you unfit to go on or conditions too risky he can pull the attempt (happened to a guy last week only 3km from shore, he had an asthma attack and pilot called it off)

Anyway below is a map of Grant's progress!, if you can see the faint dotted lines that's the main shipping lanes (one of the busiest in the world) ferries, container ships tankers etc.  the little pink shape is the boat Anastasia!

that is amazing!!!! And (hehe) here I was, all ready to complain about the swim workout Yanti MADE me do I did it though, all of it. No meals on a stick though.

Oh for shame. And that was the one important detail I left out!

Biked my first time trial today. I was hoping for an avg. pace of 17 mph and to get in in 45 min or less. Look at me go! My coach said, look how far you've gone in such a short time! Laughing And that's with my little road bike too! Oh, and half inflated tires, my coach informs me after the race. OOps hahahah.

That is a sweet ride there! Congrats on beating your planned speed. And you beat it like a drum!

I'll give you the same what for that I give MerYanti...Rest, rest, and more rest. It is as (if not more) important as the training itself. If you don't rest, you'll never fully recover.

Kirsten, that is a beautiful pic indeed. If I remember, you are in the Vancouver area, right? So this is probably more for you then anyone else, although everyone feel free to answer this one if you can. As you all know, my wife and I are headed out on an Alaskan cruise in a couple of weeks. We end in Vancouver, and are staying the night to do a little sightseeing. So, the question is, what should we see/do? And more important to me, where should we eat? I believe we'll be in town for about 24 hours.

Thanks!

Feeling much love from my fellow manatees

My Channel swimmer is going through a tough patch at the moment - willing him to do it, France is well within his sights but on tide change can mean an extra 4 or 5 hours swimming.

Yanti, I wanted to thank you for your swimming help (again). Now I just have to go put it all into action, probably be hitting the pool tomorrow.

[Rant]
BTW, I don't know how you all spend any time in TT right now. There just seem to be some threads in there that make me wonder what people are thinking. Not all of them, obviously, but there are more then a few that leave me scratching my head. I'm far from an expert, so the advice you get from me is what worth what you paid me for it. But there are some folks here that have really valuable info to share. Why go in there and ask a question about something and then argue with the answers you get? It makes no sense. I am more convinced then ever that this runs in cycles. OK, I'm done, thanks.

Oh, I've been ranting to Salty about it plenty.

It does run in cycles, but with BT getting so big, it's getting less that folks know who each other are, and I think the respect level has gone down. Both the respect accorded to those who know what they're talking about, and as we get impatient, ours toward others. That's our own fault and we have to own it.

Not that simple, but ... most of the truly top-info, top-level posters just don't post anymore, and I understand why, and the site owners and mods, including myself, are trying very hard to think of practical changes that will both retain 'experts' as well as forums that are newcomer-friendly.

I cannot even wrap my head around how long you need to swim to make it across.  It makes me anxious just thinking about being out in that water!  that's so brave-@$$ shiz right there.

Wow, you've taken on a bit of a challenge. It isn't an issue that is uncommon elsewhere. A lack of respect across the internet. Not to mention the general populace. It is the sort of thing where I type about 200% more then I post. If we all sit, take a moment and re-read what we have written, and decide if that is how we want to portray ourselves to others, we may be a bit more careful. I believe it has to do with the immediate and anonymous nature of the web in general. I believe that if more attention was paid to educating users in the site, not only forums, but logs, pm's, etc., there would be less problems and more civility. I gotta run to a meeting, TTYL.

Strictly based on post number. I forget what's what but you do get to choose your own title at 6000 if your posts aren't all in CoJ and you've not caused the mods too many headaches.

Darn. The map didn't show up. I would love to watch. That's just an amazing feat.

Probably coz you deleted the cat with the teeth

lol I didn't, but it's showing up this morning, so it just must have been some kind of glitch.

That little line puts it in perspective -- that is a long swim. Sheesh!

It's a long and complicated tale, but let's just say this site is stringently moderated. The rules are clear and you get some leeway if you're generally a nice person and helpful, but not much.

Bryan does keep his logs open, and he is a very approachable person if you want to ask him anything.

I really can't speak to that. After all, every single one of my 43K whatever-whatever posts contains technical, highly detailed yet accessible and practical, strictly triathlon-related training information.

Is this person's hand and forearm position correct? I always feel like I don't have a perfectly straight line from finger tips to elbow, but I think I look like this person. See how her fingers are flexed backward? Is this correct?  If not, how can you work to correct it (since this is what I do)?

ArielLIlB - 2012-07-25 9:10 PM Question - how does someone get a "Veteran", "Expert" etc. status on BT?

Strictly based on post number. I forget what's what but you do get to choose your own title at 6000 if your posts aren't all in CoJ and you've not caused the mods too many headaches.

So someone can post a ton of crap nonstop and get the title "Expert"...Expert in the art of B.S. I guess!

Also, I have a "veteran" designation, which I thought was generous! Tongue out

I really can't speak to that. After all, every single one of my 43K whatever-whatever posts contains technical, highly detailed yet accessible and practical, strictly triathlon-related training information.

HAha, yeah I guess our P-13 rated innuendo-posts are counting towards that total too! I guess it doesn't specify what type of veteran or expert, I just made the leap that it was tri-related.  I should have known better, after hanging out in this group for so long!

Is this person's hand and forearm position correct? I always feel like I don't have a perfectly straight line from finger tips to elbow, but I think I look like this person. See how her fingers are flexed backward? Is this correct?  If not, how can you work to correct it (since this is what I do)?

Yup. That's pretty much what it should look like mid-pull.

One way to tell if you have a straight line down is 1) look at it, and 2) are you feeling water pressure on every part of that straight paddle, from fingertips-palm-wrist-forearm low-forearm high-side of elbow?

She looks like she's pulling back hella hard. The finger hyperextension could be camera angle or it could be she's actually pulling so hard the water is bending her fingers into that hyperextension.
