Master 1609 Gold Coast Australia. | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Jackie, have fun and don't stress too much about the time! This is your first full M and gaining the confidence that you can do the distance is most important. You will do fine, just don't rush, save it all for the final 10k. All the best!!! 2 hr ride this morning to Pt. Danger to watch the surf. It wasn't raining! Ocean swim anyone? Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed @Jackie, at this moment you're probably feeling like you could run up the walls and tomorrow you will feel even better. Is not about fitness anymore, it is all about execution! The marathon is a 10k with a 20 mile warmup, so take it from me: go very easy for the first twenty and the rest will sort itself out. All that energy tomorrow that will come from te excitement, the good training that is in the bag, will propel you too darn fast at the beginning. Resist the urge! Stick to your pace, find a pace leader if the race has one for your goal time and do not deviate from the plan. How you run the last ten kilometers will be a direct result of what you do before. Don't forget to fuel neither, your body will be using far more carbs than what you have in stores, the last thing you want is to have the muscle fitness but you bonk hard for low sugar. Take things that are easy to digest (mono saccharides) such as grapes or slices of orange. Those don't require ANY digestion whatsoever, they are absorbed almost instantly. Remember to smile and have fun, it will be a PR regardless of time because it's your first one, all the stress will be gone before you hit the first mile marker.I'd wish you luck but you don't need much, the training has been done so no need to rely on that.Break a leg! |

Veteran 112 Wollongong | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Competed in the local Splash 'n Dash Aquathon. Happy to say I cannot count either leg in our training count. The last official aquathon I competed in I really made a mess of the swim. The had to change the course because of the big swells Mark has sent our way. Just over 500m swim and 5km run. 35 mins. I was happy with the swim as I was backing up from yesterday. Finally feel like my swimming is starting to come together - now I can start to step up to the next notch. Just need to find where it is. The interaction and help that this group is giving is really helping me with my consistency. Thanks everyone. Edited by Gla56 2013-02-23 7:57 PM |

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Gla56 - 2013-02-23 7:54 PM Congratulations Greg! The key to good swimming is... swimming! Some people complains of being slow swimmers, when they could truly be faster if they only swam. Consistency is key, swim fitness is quick to go out the window when you start missing your workouts.Competed in the local Splash 'n Dash Aquathon.
