It's for IMAZ, but really applies to any IM/HIM race.

if it can't fit on half a bath towel folded you got too much stuff

rack bike w/ seat.  pur the helmet on the bars with your sunglasses in it

bike shoes on one end of towel, run shoes w/ hat (if worn) on the other....race belt can go under your tri top for the swim and get pulled out afterwards.  Your race # must be visible in front for the final run.  Have you practiced any transition stuff in your driveway?  It helps!

- I don't like to wear my race belt in the swim, but it's one less thing to forget if you do. For me it just feels crinkly under my wetsuit.

- I always throw a tech/shirt or bike jersey on with no issues in T1 - If you put on any clothing after the swim it should not be too tight as it's hard to get tight clothing on a wet body.

- I keep my glasses in my helmet and my "run" and "bike" stuff each in a little pile. Less stuff the better. (I don't put mine on my bike though because often times it can get knocked off as people run by)

- Probably want to keep anything small/loose together in a baggy so you can grab and stuff it in your pocket (Gels, Advil, Chapstick whatever...)

- Seems obvious but remember to take your helmet off in T2. (not that I've forgotten AHEM)

- Marking your spot... I put an small towel over the bar where my bike goes when it's out. (Don't take up more then your own spot though) If it's colorful it makes your spot easy to see, and it's good for wiping off wet feet.

Don't forget chapstick and sunscreen.  At my last race on March 27, my lips got sunburned and were a wreck for days.

My first private swim lesson is on the books for next week!  I am stoked.  He saw me swim today and made some positive comments about the improvement since last week.  Wow, haven't had a positive comment about my swimming in a L-O-N-G time.

Picked up my bike tonight.  Since I took the Look keo's off the destroyed hybrid I put those on my road bike.  Have the Performance generic look wannabe's as back up now.  Changed the cleats in my bike shoes. Did not realize how worn they were.  Check them over, folks.  If they are too worn you may not stay clipped properly which can have safety consequences!!

The night before I have to write everything I need down, then I put it next to my backpack, then I check it off as I put it in my backpack. Then the next morning all I have to do is grab my backpack and go.
I am not a morning person so this is key.
Anal, yes. Have I forgotten anything, No.

Hubby and I are doing tour de Phoenix tommow.  72 miles  I'm excited to wear our matching bike shirts.  We did the Rainier Beer cycling jerseys.  http://www.primalwear.com/p-93-pbr-rainier-mens-cycling-jersey.aspx  Our last name starts with R so we thought it was very appropriate.

I just got back from a business trip so I didn't get anything done the past couple of days.  Good luck racers!!

Or maybe you will find out that it isn't as bad as you think a little tweak here and there will make a monumental difference.

I got my ride in today along PCH.  A little overcast so no pictures to make people jealous.  I really felt like i could see improvement.  Too bad this is probably the last time I get to ride PCH this month.  Next weekend I will be in Chicago and the following weekend is my granddaughter's third birthday and then it will be May.  I will have a long ride opportunity on Tuesday afternoon, but that will be on the flat river trail (great for base-building).  And that looks like my last chance for a long base-building ride in April.

My new bike isn't in yet.  He thinks Monday so I'm not sure I will have it in time for the ride on Tuesday.  If not, then I am going to be practicing in the Rose Bowl parking lot.  Who has a tri bke and how long was the learning curve?

Ok I finished my race and it was a lot of fun. I could have done better if I had trained more but i finished in 1:47:18 so it wasn't that bad.

A few mishaps-

I put my shirt on my friend's transition area while we were getting our wetsuits on and forgot it there so that cost me some time in T1 looking for it. I had an extra one so after I couldn't find the first one I wore the backup.

At the turn around for the run we started running on sand/gravel which I wasn't expecting after we ran up and down 60 steps.

After the steps I couldn't get my heartrate in check and my avg hr was 187 with a max of 202.

Sounds like everyone is having a great day.  Good weather for Kir, Strong ride for leah, Great video for Queenie, and a successful 1st race for Heather!  GO NUTSOS!!

My race was AWESOME!  Hubby and I were very proud of how we did.  We took about 20 minutes off our time from the 66 mile ride in November.  Hooray for seeing training pay off!  I'm so happy we found something we can do together.  Our matching jerseys were a hit too.  I'll give you the link for photos soon.  We finished the race in 4:46.  We would have been faster but Ron got a flat.  That added about 11 minutes to our time.  Ron said he could really see my training paying off when we hit a 4 mile climb (the climb Lisa and I did together) at mile 60.  He usually leads up the hill but this time I lead and he was wiped out.  We both agree we would be much better if we weren't carrying so much weight around.

Heather - Congrats on making it through your first race.  With every race their is always something you could do better or differently.  Just enjoy a successful finish!  When's the next one?!

Heather - Congrats on your first race! Woo! I hope you had a ball. Too bad about the shirt, but little things like that tend to happen now and then, sounds like you handled it well. You photo in the before/after thread is great too btw! Sound like a good time too. What were the distances for that sprint?

Kate - Sounds like an awesome ride you guys had. pretty soon they are going to have a hard time catching up with you!

Jud - Glad the taping went well. Those things are always a bit nerve wracking. I went through my first taping a few weeks back. Eeek.

Leah - No tri bike here so I have no idea. Riding the PCH must be amazing good weather or not!

Kir - How was the 60? What's the farthest you've gone so far? I want to do a century too but none of them seem very close to here and I don't really drive very far.

As for myself. I rode today but only a bit as tomorrow is my long ride. Sadly the weather won't be as nice tomorrow so I probably should have switched days, but I wanted to let my legs rest a day more. Today's ride was kinda annoying though. High traffic on the trail = slow ride. Sigh.

It does sound like a good day all around.  Particularly if you compare how we were talking six or eight months ago.

I am off for my Sunday "long" run (which is only going to be approximately 6 miles - still base building).  I get to run to this cute little restaurant in Pasadena called Marston's and Chuck and I will share the California Omelette,  Scrumptious.

Happy training today everyone!

Had a nice ride.  Tried a new gu flavor.  Jet Blackberry.  Too fruity for me but not bad for occasional use.
