For most of us it is slow but the basis of it is a steady pace to better train yourself.  We go slower than usual because it is longer than most of our training runs and that is where most get slow - but you just want to do it steady no matter what your pace is.

Took me awhile to realize you were filling in the blank one letter at a time.  I thought you had just quintuple (?) posted

Sounds like our weather here is similar to what my fellow gouhlies are having today. Sunny, but cool and windy. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain and snow...up to a foot in the nearby mountains.

Good thing I got in 3.5 miles today, right?

Be back later--after I get the kiddos from their various schools...

alrighty GHOULIEs.

im all caught up on messages.

got elected the teams 'welcome wagon', welcoming and orienting all the newbie PTCers, keeping track of membership, that sorta thing.

whadya all think, will i do a good job at that???  LOL.

after the mtg i was gonna drive straight to the Y, but i felt a 'tug' to go home....

it was my sons 13th birthday yesturday.

WHAT a milestone.  i clearly remember bringing him home from the hospital...

to think he's turned 13.

WOW!

i just wanted to be home with him and the rest of my family to commerate the day.

i can swim any other day.

he only turns 13 once
.

stacieb

sounds perfect Smile   they are lucky to have you in that position.

Pretty special birthday!  Enjoy the milestone.   My youngest step-daughter turns 21 today... DH and I are looking forward to spending time with her and her husband this evening.

Have a super day!

Thanks DEE.  the group is AWESOME.  i feel very 'honored' to be on the 'ground floor' of this group as its getting launched.  it cool feel like your part of something ya know.

iowagander - 2009-10-24 6:07 PM Good afternoon Ghoulies. I spent the day helping some Boy Scouts earn their weather merit badges, and then I snuck in 3.5 miles. Not too bad. Now to figure out dinner...

what a good Scout/Parent you are Tom!

did you ever make EAGLE?

my sons participated in a GREAT cubscout program.

the boyscout wasnt so much, unfortunately.

thanks for doin' your part to raise up our young men WELL.

TWO FINGERED SALUTE!  TWO!
stacieb

Ha, I never even made Webelo! My son actually was a late starter in Scouts but he earned his Webelos badge in the one year he was eligible for Cub Scouts, and now he's having a blast with the Boy Scout troop. We're hoping he can earn Second or First Class by the end of this year.

Second or First Class by the end of the year, impressive!

Boyscouts grow up to be GREAT men!

you should be uber proud, DAD.
stacieb

I'm very proud indeed. He and I are very different in a lot of things, but we have a lot of interests in common as well and that's what I try to focus on. He's a great kid, and it's been fun to watch him grow up, I just wish it wasn't happening so fast, especially since I've had to miss so much with both of my kids due to work.

sometimes i wish mine would stay little just.  a. bit. longer.

Here is a quick weekend summary:

We are in first place - that is all that matters - let us stay that way

Another great summary, Bill

Thanks Neal.  It was fairly quiet in here besides Stacie's problems and her cool 13 year old b-day conversation over DQ blizzards which she did not share

my bad.  when he turns 26, ill have to invite the GHOULIES.  ill buy the first round of BLIZZARDS.

im just thinking after what the NEXT 13 years 'hold' for him/us, im certain to need SEVERAL BLIZZARDS.  LOL

it was a memorable conversation thats for sure.

stacieb

Glad you had a great time.  I didn't want to interrupt family time - I just wanted a Heath Bar Blizzard

oh you wouldnt be interupting.

skrtrnr - 2009-10-26 8:33 AM MORNING GHOULIES.

just a quick fly by then off to the Y....

takin it easy this week.

ITS TAPER TIME.

YAHOO!

short (makeup) swim, nice slow easy.

4 mile run, which im really looking forward to.

you get to this point in your training, and can just settle into the fact that you've trained well.  i realy take this time to reflect back and i always end up having some of the 'best' runs during taper week.

feels like the 'pressure' is 'off' you know.

all the hardwork is done.  its just mentally getting yourself ready to race.

just go and let your body take over.

yay!

i was thinking about 'dedicating' each mile to someone/something that im grateful for...

of course the members of my family rank up there in the top 4, so im gonna dedicate a mile to my husband, and each one of my sons.

im sure to dedicate a mile to my new formed TRI CLUB.

but i wanted you all to know that im gonna dedicate at least one mile if not several to each of you my GHOULIE teammies.

this has been a GREAT challenge to do with THIS particular group.  i dunno, we seem to really 'jive' well together.

maybe it was just the 'season' i was in, what i 'needed' from a team, but i really, really have had one of the BEST times on a challenge team since participating in challenges here on BT.

second only to the time i was on a team w Julesy and Deeders and Phil for the first time. now THAT was a FUN time...i dont even know what challenge it was....then there was the infamous boys vs girls swim challenge.  GOOD TIMES!

so im not sure what mile you get, ill let you know, but i just wanted to take a moment and tell you how GRATEFUL i am for each one of you.

you have encouraged me and inspired me in ways that im sure your not even aware.

and you've certainly made this 1/2 MARY trng process MUCH more pleasant and 'doable'....

love ya GHOULIES.  i FOUND MY VILLAGE!

mwah!

has anyone done/tried/using the PALEO DIET FOR ATHLETES?

what are your thoughts?

im in a fitness challenge on Facebook (AMAIZA FITNESS CHALLENGE if any of you are facebook users and want to participate in this challenge....)

anyway.  one of the weekly goals is to eat meals that are non-processed - meaning only lean protein, fish, seafood, fruits, vegetables.

no problem.  but i was 'concerned' about the lack of carbs.

i realize that you get plenty of carbs from fruit and some from vegetables, but....

im just curious what you all think those that have read the book, or done the diet.

it seems awfully bare minimum to me, but definatley in keeping w a lifestyle goal of mine that i have to eat more clean/whole/vegetarian.

im not 'opposed' to what they were saying necessarily, just want to make sure that im getting what i need in order to support my training.

any thoughts/feedback et al would be most appreciated.
stacieb

First of all you stole TopPage from me

Second I have not but if you are eating veggies and fruits I would not worry about carb intake.  You will get a ton from eating veggies and fruit so I imagine you will still be Super Stacie

thanks for the words of encouragement, BILL.

the more i thought about the more i thought, man is this a REALLY AWESOME way to eat or what.

the way we were meant to eat...i think its just gonna be a shift in mindset.

i do think that our American culture is SO carb (in the form of breads and grain) saturated.

honestly do we need all that?

im gonna give it a whirl, and see how it works/how i feel.

Funny you should bring that up.  I just started following this diet for the last few weeks to the best of my ability (ie several 'cheat' meals a week ).  For the most part I think its great.  I need to nail down the pre-workout fueling since of few of my runs lately have been less than stellar and I've gotten that sort of hollow feeling in my stomach.

That said, it has been a very light month for me training wise.  It will be interesting to see how my body handles the diet along with a much increased load next month.

thanks for the feedback NEAL.

i can see myself having 'cheat meals' too

id be interested to hear how it 'works' once you increase your load...

i guess thats where my question 'lies' is this really 'enough' to support what we do....but from what ive read theres lots of amazing athletes using this approach who are trng harder/longer than i am.

it must work.

wow Stacie you are up late!!!! how are you?

OH JULES.  how i wish i could have seen this message BEFORE i turned off the computer and try to go back to sleep.

i could have used some company.

i fell asleep fine, early.  about 9 pm.  we came home from our neighborhood soiree.  so. much. fun.

then it was about 12:00 wide awake couldnt fall back to sleep.

so, i thought id chk my email, my msgs on facebook, and then here in BT.

had a glass of milk.  took two ibuprofen (sometimes they 'relax' me)

when i was looking in my inbox/email i saw someone left me a msg on meetup.com, so i went to chk out the msg/see who it from.

a total stranger left me this msg, that kinda freaked me out.  nothing major.

the msg said:  'YOU ARE EXTREMALY (misspelled) ATTRACTIVE'

thats it.  nothing else.

i dont know, had any guy here on BT, SOMEONE IVE GOTTEN TO KNOW on a challenge thread or somewhere, sent me a msg telling me how extremely attractive i was i would have been like, WOO HOOO.

but the fact that this came from somone i didnt even know/not someone ive met.  who doesnt even participate in a group that ive participated in, i dont know it just FREAKED ME OUT.

so of course, not being able to fall back to sleep, and not feeling 'well' i started thinking, this guy could show up at one of my MEET UPS, and what he was one of THOSE guys, ya know....YIKERS.

theres a block function on the site, so i can keep him from sending me any more msgs, but....

on the site, i reply what meetings im planning on going to, when/where....

all he needs to do is go to the pages of the groups that im a part of, see if ive RSVP for that particular meet up, and voila he knows where i am and when im going to be there.

im trying NOT to be so anxious...im figuring its was inappropriate, but harmless.

but its got me SO wigged out.

i feel like im going to be 'looking over' my shoulder every time i go to a Meetup, meetup which is SUCH a bummer too.  i really enjoy my Chic Lit Club.  and the biking group.  and the NOW/Eckhart Tolle too.

just when i was starting to 'get out there' more.

UGHISH.

any suggestions, JULES, OTHERS as to what i should do?

i just think you cant be too careful, but then again, i dont want to be 'swept away' in sensationalized headlines either.

YAHOO!

short (makeup) swim, nice slow easy.

GOOD TIMES!

so im not sure what mile you get, ill let you know, but i just wanted to take a moment and tell you how GRATEFUL i am for each one of you.

you have encouraged me and inspired me in ways that im sure your not even aware.

and you've certainly made this 1/2 MARY trng process MUCH more pleasant and 'doable'....

love ya GHOULIES.  i FOUND MY VILLAGE!

mwah!
