I should have mentioned this in the previous post to Kate - but at least for me - Beer is the master motivator.  I will do just about anything in order to drink good beer and just about anything (including running a sub 3 hour OLY) to avoid drinking coors lite.  To prove my point...

For the past month, I've been staring at the $$$ I earned from winning the Weight Loss Challenge - looking forward to reaching 175 pounds so I could use it to buy really good beer.  This morning, I weighed in and was friggin pumped to see 174.2 staring back at me.  That makes 88.6 since last November.  So I plan on heading out to the beer store this weekend and buy 6 really good beers.  I'm gonna enjoy a bottle to celebrate making my goal and then I'll enjoy one for every pound I lose on my way to my goal of 170.  Hope to get there by Thanksgiving...

Not feeling well today.  Coming down with a massive cold.  I plan on going to bed early tonight and will get in my long run tomorrow.  Finally - guess what I will also be doing tomorrow?  For christmas - my wife bought me a NASCAR driving experience.  I'm gonna get to drive 12 laps around the track as fast as they will let me.  Should be a good time.  I wonder if there is a brewery I can hit on the way home???

What's everyone else up to this weekend?

A well earned reward.

I regret to inform that after a g and t, and a rather nice amber ale of a brewer I don't currently remember, that I am well into the beer and clam, what can I say.

This weekend I got a 2 hour easy run tomorrow and an easy run on Sunday. I also go to get the yoga under control. Blasted. Dad's birthday is tomorrow so that should be fun.

Moonrocket - 2012-09-13 9:08 PM Hi! I hope you don't mind me jumping in. I'm Kate and was in a group with Thor, David and Kevin that died so Thor suggested I join in here. Just had to say Good Luck David! I hope you have a great race! I've been thinking about putting a half marathon on my calendar to work up to. Or just gutting one out. I have my last tri next weekend a sprint and have not been on my road bike in over a month. I'd try and remedy it this weekend, but we're going to the mountains to squeeze in some more mountain biking before the snow covers the trails.
wow, great to have you. I love imports.....and domestics actually, really all beer. Oh wait..... Which half are you thinking of.

Thank you for letting me join!  I'm a little scared of all of you super endurance types- Your 100 mile run race report was amazing!  I can't imagine what it takes to keep moving forward for 32 hours.  That's twice as long as I like to go without sleep - never mind racing the whole time.

I am glad you enjoyed it. It was a long time not to sleep.....

Don't let that scare you though, I am just a normal guy, who likes to run slowly for a very long time. We all have our issues.

No worries.  I think in that case, Yes, YOU would be a BAD host w/o beer.  Smile

I found my way back on the wagon as well.  We freed up some funds, and found that I will be getting a little extra next month.  This budgeting crap is for the birds.  I'm down to Henry's Weinhardt's Honey wheat something or other.  It's definitly so so bottom shelf.  Just this side of Coors.  Sorry Beer Drinkers, I have let all of you down.  I hold my head down.  Much Shame.  CryI know I'm in a safe place reporting this here, however.

Roofed a house yesterday= sore today.  I feel like I did after the half iron.

followed the bevis up last night with some Mcnaughton's, I thought it may act as a muscle relaxer.

I may just watch some football today, and posible go for a 5 mile run this afternoon with plans of following the schedule next week.

Hope everyone makes the most out of your weekend.  Tomorrow, it's back to the grindstone!

Well, I watched some people road biking while eating breakfast. Then I went mountain biking ;-). I will probably be sketchy Saturday on my road bike, but I will still be smiling from the gorgeous fall mountain biking. I love cruising through the woods on a yellow path of Aspen leaves. I think we hit peak color this weekend (which as a New England native is never quite as impressive as I would hope, but still pretty). The weather was perfect all weekend long. Now to convince myself to go swimming again.

Well another run this morning...male ego kicked and picked up the pace...another guy came on the track about 2 miles into my run. Of course I had to pass him so the last 3 miles were much faster them my usual. Didnt help that he was a stick with legs, about 6'1", 150lbs.

It was a good workout for me.Smile

After a workout, a nice Pale Ale would be good.  Nice easy drinker after excercise.

Fell off the wagon on after posting that I'd reached 175.  The fall wasn't pretty.  Reaching my penultimate goal + coming down with a massive cold caused me to miss my workout on Saturday.  My Nascar experience tweaked my back something fierce (no I didn't wreak) and I skipped my long run on Saturday telling myself that an extra day of rest would put to rest the pain in my hips and feet.  But then Sunday came and I hit rock bottom.  Let's just say that the kids and dog might go hungry as a result of Sunday's totally slothfest.  Sat on the couch, watched football, and only got up to baste a turkey shoulder.  Might be the first time I've gone three days without doing anything since November.  Not pretty.

Luckily, I got back on the wagon again today.  Ate well and managed to get in a bike ride that was cut short thanks to having a help my son with a school project.

OK - here's my question: How hard do I want to push myself this week?  I've got three weeks to the HIM and I want to try to make it as painless as possible... I was thinking of trying to do all three distances - a mile swim, a 13 mile run, and a 56 mile ride  I feel decent now.  Just wondering how much going big will help.

Remind me to tell y'all tomorrow how I spent the $$$ I won from my beer challenge...

X2... There is something refreshing about a hoppy IPA.  What section of the country do you live in?  Let me know and I'll suggest something more specific.

Welcome Back! I have no idea on the training since I have yet to go further than a sprint. Three weeks out is usually a pretty big week on a sprint plan though. Other than tweaking your back was the NASCAR thing cool?

I'm right outside Boulder, CO. I actually live less than a mile from where they make Dale's Pale Ale.

Push it hard this week.  Then Taper the next 2.  First week of Taper, cut the distances but keep the intensities.  Second week of taper, do all 3 sports/race prep workouts at about 20 min per sport.  Big time taper for race week.

More $$$ to come.  Keep up the hard work.

Ok, finally off the beaches of So Cal Cooland got my race report done. Pales in comparison with Big D's but here it is: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=461236

Bought a growler of Imperial Russian Stout for my one man support team.  Also, I secretly enjoyed the end of my run as I chick'd a guy who had been trading places with me throughout the run and was in a younger age group!Wink

Moonrocket - 2012-09-17 3:52 PM So, this Sunday I'm doing an Octoberfest sprint triathlon. They even give you a pint glass as swag. So, what should I get to fill my new beer glass??? Any suggestions?

After a workout, a nice Pale Ale would be good.  Nice easy drinker after excercise.

X2... There is something refreshing about a hoppy IPA.  What section of the country do you live in?  Let me know and I'll suggest something more specific.

I'm right outside Boulder, CO. I actually live less than a mile from where they make Dale's Pale Ale.

Yup, I say go with the pale ale, followed up with an IPA. Last time I was in Denver, there seemed to be quite a few microbreweries/brewpubs!! Enjoy.

Of course on the waaay outside chance that you fail....warm coors lite for you out of a dirty ashtray...Smile
