I don't carry a fuel belt with me on marathons. But I do wear a race number belt ($12). In my race number belt there are a row of loops, almost like an ammo belt. I stick the gels that I need into the loops, with the loops wrapped around the middle of the gel packet. Can't rely on gels being at the aid stations until the last 10 miles or so, and by then it's too late to convert any of the gels to energy for the body. Just my $0.02. Do what works for you. Gels aren't palatable for a lot of people... That's really helpful. I was planning on carrying food because I always want it earlier. I like gummy things like sports beans and sometimes gels. I was going to get a fuel belt race number belt and a pouch to hold all my crap in. I figured that would work. I am hoping to be able to rely on their water stops, though. I really don't want to have to carry that much. Just a plain old race belt and some rubber bands works. You can attach a few packs of those sports jelly beans or something to it and just break the rubber bands when you want some.
I hate my race belt anyway...this is just a convenient excuse to get a new one. |

I can't say enough good things about the people who do Shamrock. I lost my medal from 2007 and sent them an email. They had a new one to me in two days. |
