Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() ![]() 66.02 mile ride out to Sauvie Island today. I mapped the route and it was supposed to be 60 miles - thankfully I brought extra food! Ended up being a perfect day despite the early start sluggishness. I found some sheep to talk to at my turn around point. Edited by kirih 2010-04-11 3:19 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Awesome - cept for the longness factor! Today was the longest ever on the tri bike. The longest ride I've ever done was somewhere between 106-109 miles on ALC7 - from Santa Cruz to King City CA. I might be going longer on Reach the Beach as I'm thinking about going camping overnight and riding back the next day - the campground is about 12 miles from the finish, and I'd only do ~80 back (take the train the rest of the way) and probably on the touring bike as it's more comfortable than the tri bike. Century rides are fun! Can you map a route out and back from a closer location? IdealMuse - 2010-04-10 7:58 PM Kir - How was the 60? What's the farthest you've gone so far? I want to do a century too but none of them seem very close to here and I don't really drive very far. |

Century rides are fun! Can you map a route out and back from a closer location? Oh yeah I can do some local self supported ones... Just was thinking most of the group ones are a bit far out and my husband is already being dragged upto door and madison (twice) I can't ask him to keep driving me around. I do need to learn to deal with driving more though because I have to make it out to the suburbs on my own to do the hills. 109! When was that? Today was my "tie" with longest ride so far... although my Garmin tells me it was farther then I realized last time I did it (47 miles) I REALLY wanted to extend it to 50 just so I could say I did 50. Haha.... but 1) I already rode half hour more then the plan called for and 2) had to go home and do a half hour Brick run... so no Half century mark for me... but I think next weekend I'll do it since my ride is slated to be 3:00 next week, so just a tiny bit over and I'll hit the 50 mark. I felt surprisingly good on the run when I got back today. Not super speedy but holding just under 5mph in zone 2. I expected to be more spent. How was everyone's training weekend? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What a lot of biking this weekend. I will try to figure out how much we did, but feel to correct if I get it wrong. Leah - 37.91 miles Kate - 72 miles Heather - 10 miles plus 20 miles Kiri - 66.02 miles Debb - 47 miles Judi - 32.44 285.37 (if I added correctly). And maybe more, once we hear from Keely and Scott. Are we amazing or what? |

I want to do a century too but none of them seem very close to here and I don't really drive very far. I'm hoping "century rides are fun" as I am planning to do three or four as part of my Ironman training. My first one, which is a (loosely defined) metric century is on May 8. It is 68 miles with 3,000 feet of climbing. I am planning to do it with my new bike and hope I don't a) make a fool of myself or b) kill myself on a bike I don't know how to ride yet. But hopefully I will have the hang of it by then. As long as I describe geographic reasonableness as within a three-hour drive (which is how I am defining it), I do have a few centuries to choose from. I have several 100+ mile routes that people have given me to choose from, but I am looking forward to the "supported" part of the ride. |

And I never filled it and did my whole ride without a single sip of water. If it had been warm, I probably would have filled it, but since it wasn't, I didn't. I also need to be better about this. Thanks for the reminder. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow I over hydrated today, but it felt just right in the end - took in ~98oz today in 4:24. Maybe that's why I had to hit the honey bucket so badly at mile 52! QueenZipp - 2010-04-11 5:51 PM I joined Disturbed275's mentor group. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for sharing the pictures Kiri! I love seeing the views from everyone's rides. Leah - I agree we all kicked butt this weekend! Go Team Go! Judi - I heard the same thing about water. I use my watch as a guide now. Drink on the 15s and I eat gu on the 45s. So far so good. I usually need something more than gu around the 50 mark. I'm exhausted so I'll check in tomorrow. I'm hoping for a more consistant week next week. This was a rough one due to work travel. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello All!! Looks like everyone had a great weekend. I am back form Wisconsin..and to show that I actually do follow up on things...I got on the scale last night and I was 240.2 lbs!!! Officially the heaviest ever!! My previous record was 239.6 about 6 years ago. What makes this even more impressive is that I ran in a 5k (finished in top 3rd of runners..not a very good time though) hiked and biked while back in Wisconsin. The good thing is that my wife and daughter are still in Wisconsin so I can go hardcore on my diet the next 11 days..just like in my old athletic days when I would eat the exact same thing every day. (Hard to do this with the family..they tend to like a little variety). I guess I am glad I am not living in Wisconsin anymore or I could be the 500lb guy very easy...damn cheese and kringles and brats and Italian food...

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Scott - Don't discount your mileage. At least you are moving!! That is more that many people out there can do. I'm tired but trying to muster up the strength for a late night run. I really need to get on a morning cycle. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Guys!! Sorry I haven't been on but it's been stressful and crazy at work!!! I need to work on my resume and submit it for a few of the >400 postings this past week! Judi - Thanks so much for your kind words and encouragement! It's so nice to log on and see something nice and uplifting being said!! I can't wait to meet you this weekend!! I tried my wetsuit on Sunday at the pool..didn't wear it in just tried it on in a dog hair-free environment. Wanted my friend to take a picture but she refused seeing as we were in the women's locker room...well, I didn't want to have a pic of a half-naked woman in the background!! Getting it on wasn't too bad, I'll remember the PAM this weekend...getting it off was a cinch! It was a great swim lesson and I felt the improvement the last couple of laps so I'm going to continue working on the drills my friend Kevin gave us and in another month meet up with him again to re-evaluate. In the meantime I'll join the masters swim this week at my gym. After the swim we got a 14 mile bike ride through some very hilly terrain, my friend failed to mention how many hills and how steep. But I made it. I had to stop during the first hill just because of fatigue. My body was fine but I think the mental stress, lack of sleep, so-so nutrition really wore me down and it showed that morning. But after that hill I was fine. Need to work on getting out of my saddle on hills..I really haven't tried it because my balance and coordination are horrible so I'm a little intimidated. Rumpass in Bumpass Sprint is Sunday...looking forward to seeing how I feel with the wetsuit, etc and I'll get to meet Queenie Saturday!! Oh yeah, forgot - Weight = 209 |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My husband got this T-shirt made for some comic convention he's going to... At this local place apparently you can get them really cheap (like 6 bucks). I doubt they have non-cotton workout shirts, but I'm having him check on it for me. I'm thinking about getting some kinda "Ironman in Training" shirt made for myself. Any cool ideas for silly tag lines? So far all I can think of is "Yes. ME. Really." or something like that What's everyone got going on today? Group Workouts tonight for me... walking to the store otherwise (Gonna go get some more Clif varieties to test) |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've got running tonight in the RAIN..but that's better than the 93 degree heat last week! I've been trying the various HEED drinks and the taste is mild but I like them. I have some Hammer Gels to try but those are always so weird. I've got a Perpetum? Hammer product to try but I haven't really worked out for more than two hours except a couple of weeks ago on the bike/run and it says to consume a lot of water with it. I need to get a hydration bottle for my aero bars so I can have a larger amount of fluid on my bike instead of just the cage and one bottle! I had a slight panic attack earlier when I was trying to verify my registration for Rumpass Saturday under Set Up events website and it kept telling me "You have no events"..I was like, "WHAT???" so I'm cruising my email folders for receipts and finally found it then finally found the link for registered participants and my name WAS there....WHEW...got a little worried!!! I booked a hotel for Saturday night, had the dogs in the kennel, rescheduled time with the boyfriend..would've been funny to show up at packet pick up and they don't have my name!! |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Debb - don't know if these are really silly but I like some of them for inspiration "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think." Christopher Robin to Pooh "Today I do what others will not, so tomorrow I do what others cannot." "Be not afraid of going slowly; be afraid only of standing still." "Only the mediocre are always at their best." "Whether you believe you can or you can’t, you are always right." (Henry Ford) "Life begins at the edge of your comfort zone." "When you're going through Hell, keep going!" - Winston Churchill Not sure about funny ones but I'd love to have one of those shirts with the "YES..ME" on it too...LMAO |
