RJohnson1979 - 2011-06-14 4:28 PM Does anyone know what kind of Power bars they have on the course? I know there are several different types of PBs available (harvest, triple threat, orginial.. etc). Thanks!

I wrote to the race contact email on the website and they said that they will offer the original powerbars (in a variety of flavors) on the course. Figure I'd pass that info along in case anyone else is planning on using the course nutrition!

TankBoy - 2011-06-17 2:12 PM Hey peewee, I am pretty fortunate in that I can get all my volume in during the week, so that lets me have somewhat of a "normal person" weekend. I raced last weekend, so that did shift my week a little bit, so on Saturday I have 3 hour hilly bike @ 75% FTP followed by a 1:15 endurance-pace hilly run. Sunday is an off day!

Have a good Sunday off, Rusty.

Hey Peeps...sound like you'll be busy this weekend.  I have reached the hardest week in this training in that it has to be a high volume week but I have to work all weekend Cry (and when I say work that might mean being up for three nights!!) BUT I am so proud of myself.... logs show 18.5 hours since Sunday, yippee!!!.. So psyched I got it done.  Took day off yesterday, so glad I did.

Good luck

Kate! Awesome volume! I have been no where close to 18 hours (yet?). Hope you made it through the weekend of work and got at least a little sleep? Just think, if you switched from tris over to ultra/adventure racing, you could log all that work-induced sleep depravation as "training time" too - just THINK what your logs would look like then!
Thanks Rusty! I spent 56 hours in the hospital this weekend (yes I was counting) and the psycho thing is My legs actually feel like a million bucks because I did no s/ b/ r for, gasp, 2 whole days!!!! Wearing compression socks: secret weapon.

i would like to know what pros will be racing LP?

Yes, does anyone know any Pro's who will be at LP?   I know WTC put Lake Placid way down on the points list so it's not very desirable for Pro's wanting to qualify for Kona points.  I was hoping to see Caitlin Snow, who has done really well at this course the past 3 years, but I heard she's doing CDA.

Had a bike wreck this morning KINDA OF, I was on my trainer (hehe) doing a sprint interval following a spinervals dvd and I guess I was rocking to hard cause my bike slowly started falling to my right.  Good thing is I keep an ottoman on my right to keep my water bottle, remote controls and a towel on, so I caught myself midway through the fall.  Bad news is it has jacked up my rear derailler somehow.  I guess it is slightly bent, it will shift downwards fine but will not go up to the 23-27 gears.  My wife is taking it to the bike shop for me today so hopefully they can get it adjusted back or fix it.

A little over three years ago, I got my first bike trainer - a cycleops fluid 2.  I got home from work late, exhausted, but was so excited it arrived via UPS that I put it together right away and started pedalling.  Little did I know, I'd put the one lever on backwards, so the only thing holding the bike in was the tension from the plastic cap flush against the skewer.  Somehow it held my Cervelo on there for 20 minutes, and the second I stood up to do an interval the bike shot off the trainer doing 19 mph and slammed into my garage door.  Before I knew what happened, I was laying on my hockey bag staring at my garage ceiling.  Thankfully my hockey equipment broke my fall and my bike was fine.  I posted about what happened in the Tri Forum and about 15 people told similar stories.  So, yeah, you're not alone.  Glad to hear you are okay.

Haha glad you were ok! Funny stories! I was in a class at our LBS of about 20 people on trainers this winter... during one of the intervals there was a crash in the corner.... someone's bike had tipped off the trainer and fell onto some other bikes on display... He wasn't using the right skewer which caused it to come off... Never heard of it coming off the trainer and plowing straight forward though. Too funny.

My super suit is coming together.

Dream Chaser – I got a tri top from the company that you suggested.  I like it.  I generally carry spare tubes in my back pocket of my cycling top but if I go with just the tri top I’ll need to attach a bum bag to the back of the seat to carry my spare tube.  I guess it is just for 112miles.

I’ve been lent a pair of Zipp 808s clinchers rather than ride my Eastontubular.  As people have said, the roads have some potholes and I’m more concerned about a nasty flat tubular.  Edging on the side of caution.  6mths of training for my first IM is not going to be ruined by a bloody flat tubular!!!!!!!  I saw a chap a few weeks ago in Placid who had his 6th flat over the weekend (tubular).  I suspect he wheel was buggered, not just the road.

Tick Tock – time is counting down.  I have a day off today…   So glad.  Legs are buggered.  Off to Placid this w/e for the final big push.  Did I ever tell you guys how much I love Placid?  The no drinking in June thing will be really tested but I will swing by the brewery and get some take away jigs for 4th July w/e….  Martini’s are included in the no drinking thing but I can still eat the vodka filled olives..

FINALLLY heading up to Placid to train tomorrow.  Anyone have a good cue sheet link for the bike course?  Looking for something pretty small, looks like rain might be in forecast for Thurs/Frid when I will be riding and want something I can 'laminate' with packing tape.  Thanks!

I am totally on board with the "no beer 'til after the race" crowd......after missing 3 weeks with bronchitis, I have finally gotten fully back on track although very far behind. so, I'll have to focus on getting as much volume as I can while getting as light as I can between now and race day....

I managed a decent 90 miler in the hills yesterday on the bike and so far my air is starting to come around......hopefully with a few HUGE days over the next couple of weeks then a short quick taper I should be okay to go.....I may be pushing the edge and the taper timing is going to be crucial or I may crash and burn on the run.....we'll see.......

BTW, I WILL be at the LP Brewing Co....post race....hopefully I'll have my usual time to allow time to enjoy my post race beverages while the last couple of folks finish ala Louisville 2009.....

Is there any plan for a BT meet and greet on Friday or at the pre-race dinner??

Paul

Because of the way the WTC allows pros to join their 'club' for a fee and then race whatever they want the starting lists are usually garbage.  Pros tend to put their names on a bunch of races to throw off competition and leave them with options.  Also, under the current system a pro can sign up for a WTC race just days before if they feel like it.  On a tentative list, not sure where to find one.

I wish the IMLP website still had a countdown clock.  It is getting close now.  If I have counted my days correctly I think we are down to 33 days.

I just couldn't compell myself to get out of bed this morning to do a quick ride. Too tired Taking a rest day. I've got a few hard days ahead--long run/long ride/race and I want to be able to do well in those sessions so I figure an extra day to rest before that will do me some level of good. Going to a play tonight. My elective is going well. A few days of crash course clinical anatomy!! Ahh! Haha. Its a steep learning curve. I think I could do physiatry though from what I have seen so far!

31days...   ages away.   so long as the tri suit looks good, nay worries.

Swim, bike, and run really fast and see who's with you at the finish line.

Yeah. The really fast ones will have time to go home, shower and come back to be with me.

I'll be drinking a flight of beer at the LP Brewery this Friday after my swim and then at lunch on Saturday after my bike/run... I've already lost enough weight. Need all the calories I can get at this point just to keep my weight steady.

I'm in Lake Placid till Sunday for a training camp with my coach. Swam one loop of the course this afternoon and the water temp right now is PERFECT!

Unfortunately it is pouring outside right now. If it rains all weekend, no big deal. Upside is no chance of getting sunburned again!
