Meulen - 2012-11-24 4:55 PM Cool! We'll have some new people in the group! Welcome! I think I'm going to be the only one left that's not an ironman.

Met with coach today and nailed down a good plan for the season. He's really optimistic about next year for me after seeing me out on the bike recently. He thinks we might be looking at avg speeds around 24mph for my HIMs next season!?? We'll see about that! Looks like I'll be doing some more local racing for prep and doing some Xterras too. That should be fun. I'm also talking with the wife about letting me do an April training camp in California with my coach and racing in the Sea Otter out there. Our little talk got me pretty pumped! ??

Wow.  Fast! Sounds like fun, and a lot of work!  If you convince your wife on "sleepaway camp" you should write a how-to manual Wink

I'm in trouble...  The local triathlon race company offered a "season pass" offering up to 10 races for one fee.  Of course I jumped on it and now I really feel obligated to do a short race every chance I get.

AWESOME!  have some drugs with that addiction!  LOL

I won't pretend to be an expert spousal negotiations.  Mine don't involve little ones so a huge part of the hang ups don't apply.

If you have a habit of signing up for race series I would recommend NOT going to the REV3 site then! Cool

I hope everyone has recovered from the Thanksgiving splurge!  I was able to get in a couple of great hikes over the weekend including a 4 hour hike yesterday!  Not enough snow yet to ski, but was great to be able to get out in the back country!

I am crossing my fingers that the snow starts soon (we already had over 20 inches on the ground this time last year!) as I start a master's ski group in less than 2 weeks!

Pics below are from a trail that starts in Anchorage along the hillside. 5 minutes from a friends house. We almost go to the top before turning around as it was going to get dark soon.

BEAUTIFUL Robin!!!!!!!!!!

That's just awesome!  No splurge here.  Behaved myself over the holiday.  Even shut down my mothers taunting to eat some of the cheesecake she made me!   Weighed in Sunday morning the same as I've been for a month now.  Coach is getting me on a diet plan on Jan 1 to teach my body to burn fat more efficiently and knock out those last few lbs.  I'm moving slowly in that direction now so it's not such a shock when we go all out cutting breads/pastas/sugars/cereals.  He says I'll feel like crap the first month but it will pay off big.

Robin,

Beautiful! I love hiking - actually one of my favorite outdoor activities. I especially love fall and early winter hikes.

I know haven't checked in a while (normally I check in every day) but my mother passed away the week before Thanksgiving. I mentioned it to Ken at the time but didn't feel like the timing was good to share that with you all.

Things have settled down now and I thought this was a more appropriate time to share the news. It was somewhat expected but I guess it's never really expected.

I had the exact same thing up on about 3 different black Friday and cyber Monday sites and didn't pull the trigger.  I really want to switch to the crank based meter and sell my power tap so I can use different wheels for different races.  I decided to wait though and use the PT through the winter.  Trisports usually will throw an occasional 15 - 20% off and I think USAT members get some sort of discount there.  Another one that throws a sale now and then is Competitive Cycle.

Look on the bright side though, now you have an IPAD you can read books and play online poker on the trainer! Cool

Okay, its back to training for me! December will consist of rebuilding run volume starting with shorter runs, but more frequency (5x per week).  Bike and swim will be maintenance with 2 trainer rides and 2-4 swims/week depending on time.

January starts marathon training. I'm going to use Pfitzinger's plan that caps out at 70 miles/week if I can stand the volume.  Its a miles/pace plan that I'm tweaking for time/heart rate.  If I lock myself into running X miles at Y pace I know I'll just run flat boring routes to hit goal times. And life is too short for boring runs....

I Know that this is not the smartest plan to get better at tris.  I should be working on my weaker bike, but I'll work on that in the summer (with a bunch of racing mixed in, of course).

Happy training folks!

I have done that plan for the marathon Bill and it is a good plan.  One thing I did the year I used it as the run training part of my IM plan was to replace the recovery days with swim and bike, or shorten the runs and bricked them off the bike. I am fortunate that I am an early riser so doing a 60 - 70 minute bike then running for another 45 or 50 minutes in the morning before work fits my schedule.  It also helps that I only have a 20 minute commute.

Your marathon must be in May if you are starting that in January?  You will have a huge run base at that point, and if you hit the 2 times a week of swimming and biking you won't be in great shape, but it won't be bad either.  Especially if your early season tri's are sprints or oly's.  Plenty of time to build the bike for at least the one HIM that I know you are registered for.  Maybe there are others that I am not aware of.
