^^^ this.  This why vacation time and sick time should be two different buckets.  Encourages people to use sick time when they are sick!

Is he German ? Its a very European concept to only take vacation time all at once- like August.

I am one of those weird employees that never uses all of their vaction time.   Every year I ask to be paid out and they say no.  Doesn't hurt to ask.  BUT I was also grandfathered in under a hearty policy from the company start-up.

I have 6 weeks paid vacation and 40-hours a year that roll over.  Its nice to have, but rarely use more than 3 or 4 weeks.  Which I am guessing is the avgerage package?

I started with 17 days, and up to 5 roll over.  But I've only been here a year.  Even if I don't take full on vacations, I take lots of Fridays or random mental health days off so I use up that vacation.  It is considered in your compensation - USE IT!  My boss has been here since Jesus was a boy and gets 6 weeks I think - and he takes a full week in the spring, a full week in the fall, an extra week around Christmas, and almost every single Friday in the summer.  That's exactly how I would roll if I had 6 weeks!

European companies (or working in Europe) are generally more generous with vacation days. 28 days is standard here. Last year I carried over 10 which is the max carry over allowed. Add on 5 personal days and we're talking like 2 months. That said its not that easy to take them...

Hello TAN. Thought I'd check on BT today and it's all changed! Well apart from the nonsense in TAN. That appears to be holding a steady course.

I am good thanks. And you?

I've not been around so don't know about how TAN is really doing...you did mention the 'average package' further up the page and not one juvenile response which is disappointing!

I get something like 16 days earned time off plus around a week and a half paid at Christmas that is not counted in the 16 days. I think we can only have 250-something hours before it caps so you have to use it - kind of thing. I like to have around 100 hours in the bank just in case something crazy happens. And I'm fairly certain if you leave the company they pay it out to you.

In many states they have to pay you for accrued vacation by law when you leave. On top of that for many companies excessive amounts of accrued vacation can become a big liability on their books.
