We made it home late last night.  I can't sleep on the plane, so I was up for about 22 hours yesterday.  Our daughter had a great time at the in-laws, if we'd known we probably would have stayed in DC through the weekend in order to see some more sites.  As it was, we prioritized what we wanted to see and what fit my work schedule and feel like we did pretty well given the limited time we had.  Bev laughs when I include ESPN Zone on the list of sites we saw.

Good luck Tracy, the only thing worse than a sick kid is a sick husband. :P

Good morning everyone. Hoep you had a great weekend. Well we are heading to the end of another year and a good one it has been for me. (with the exception of the job thingy. I have put off looking for a new one now until the new year). I did my first 5 triathlons ever and had some pretty good ones at that. I met a lot of new friends at them and here on BT. I registered for a HIM next year. My daughter got married which was a beautiful ocassion. I had family come and visit me from Alberta. I have done things with the triathlon training and races that I never thought I would accomplish and it is only the beginning.
Thanx to everyone here who has contributed one way or another to help me along the way. I hope that now that the holiday season is upon us and the staff parties etc are well underway that we are all acting reponsibly and not drinking and driving. I wnat to be able to continue our discussions into the new year. Have a great day everyone

Oh yeah just to keep this thread in our training/mentor program. I had a good workout today.... ran 5K in 26:47 then did 10 minutes of rowing and finished with a 10K bike in 21:09. Nice easy workout today as I feel like I might be getting a cold. That of course after I said I was lucky this year and hadn't had much in the way of colds.

I am going to be petty for a few minutes..... it was total throw back to the 80's night at my gym!!  I saw more women with enough makeup on that I spotted them all the way across the floor, 2 women with long droopy earrings, and I swear a 40 something year old woman with a pink bow tied ON TOP of her head. She looked like a poodle.  I must have been quite a sight for comparision, I forgot to bring a hat for after I swam, so I was lifting with wet swimcap hair and racoon eyes.   I wonder who looked funnier?  I forgot how entertaining working out in a gym can be.

JEALOUS MUCH!  I want snow!   I thought it was snowing on my way into work today until I realized it was 53 degrees.  It must have been from the construction sight I was passing at the time.Cry

So, tonights project is to rework my running music list on my iPod.  Any suggestions?  What gets you really pumped when you workout?  I am not a big heavy metal fan but I re-discovered my old Metallica CD last night - Enter Sand Man is a great song.   I also like Green Day, Bon Jovi, some Hip Hop and great 80's songs. I have been spotted playing the air drums on occasions as I am out running.  What do you guys like to listen to..... I need some variety. My play list is getting boring.

p.s. enjoy your morning coffee everyone

Nothing much happening here, just sick and training for that mary in January. I guess I need to be sick before every major endurance event. I was sick for 5 weeks prior to my 10 miler, 6 weeks prior to my half mary, 2 weeks prior to my Oly and 3 weeks prior to my HIM. So I guess 6 weeks of colds prior to the mary is about par. I really have no idea what I can do in an event if I were actually in good health prior to the event. Sigh.

Work sucks, but it is work and glad to have it with the economy where it is at. I actually enjoy the work, just not the politics envolved in it. Same everywhere I imagine.

The contractor for our home project was in the hospital and well of course no one in his group can imagine working on anything without him there to point and draw pictures in the sand of what he wants them to do. So everything is on hold at the moment. So, hopefully the project that should have been done in September 08 will be completed by June of 09.

Everything is bright and perky, 20 mile bike, 7 mile run planned for this evening.

Tracy - You should check out Me First and the Gimme Gimmes for your playlist - they're one of my favorites right now.

I also have Modest Mouse,  Beastie Boys, Candlebox, U2, RHCP, POTUS, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Bush, Led Zepplin, Foo Ffighters, CCR, Finger Eleven,  Blink 182, Jay-Z, Nelly, Outkast, Biggie, and Eminem on my iPod right now - to name a few.  My shuffle list is around 175 songs, which helps keep it from getting stale too quickly.

Had a swim lesson over the weekend, she video taped my stroke above and below the water.  I have to say that is the best kind of feedback.  You can have someone tell you what you are doing but to see it is another thing.

Hands crossing over the center line, breathing side my stroke falls apart, not so bad on the opposite side.

She was pretty funny, She had no problem yelling at me.  I think alot of swim coaches are used to kids and can get intimidated by adults.  She told me that it was her job to tell me how much I suck in order to justify her hourly rate.

She gave me a small piece of PVC to hold while doing drills to make sure that my hands always come back to that point making this ! !, instead of this ^.

Running a 10k this weekend with a large crew of BT'ers, I think we had 30+ people last time I checked, should be alot of fun.

Trac.... I highly recommend the Minutes to Midnight CD from Linkin Park (actually pretty mellow, and super good), I think they only have 1 song where they are SCREAMING!!! Also there is a podcast called PODRUNNER, and it is done all based on BEATS PER MINUTE... You can get some great tempo runs in.....

"M&M" or Eminem is a great one...

Ludacris ---- MOVE BIT*H is a great one... I love to listen to this one running where lots of people are....

Tracy for you... Knowing my wife who was also a ex cheerleader in college.... She digs JT, and Timberland when running.... Also she get's going to Ludacris, or ANY DAVE MATTHEWS BAND...

I played a little Nirvana unplugged running the other day... Seemed great....  Trail running I tend to go a little mellow with stuff like John Mayer, Death Cab for Cuties, Augustana, Sun Kil Moon, Jack Johnson, etc...

"M&M" or Eminem is a great one...

feeling my age there, tbh I wondered why I couldn't find the song sorting by artists, I was looking in the M's... To my credit I thought it could have also been sorted under Marshall Mathers...

I'm telling you - check out Me 1st and the Gimme Gimmes.  They cover great songs in a punk style, everything from 60's to Country.  Or don't, it's really up to you.

I have another early flight tomorrow - sucks getting up at 3:45 to catch a plane.  On the upside, this is the last trip I have scheduled for now and I'll make MVP status again with this trip.

Good morning everyone.  Great thing happened to me this morning.  I didn't eat breakfast at home  and was trying not to raid the vending machines at work. I had a package of peanut butter crackers and an apple so I was good.  After I scarfed down the crackers and the apple I was still hungry.  I picked up the cracker wrapper to throw it away, AND THERE WAS ONE MORE CRACKER LEFT IN THE PACKAGE!!!!  Finding extra food when you are training is like finding money in your pocket!!!!

Very nice.

Somehow my kids stole my goggles and jammers out of my bag and hid them so no swimming for me today, it is cold and rainy so going to run on the indoor track here at work.  45 laps for 5 miles, ugh...

I had some free time this morning so I went and made an excel spreadsheet of all my races and results from 2008.  Also pasted it in my logs.  Kind of fun to do some analysis.  Can't wait for next season to start so I can see how things have improved (hope with all this work they have improved).

HI Gang. Just a quick check in today. My daughter is back in the hosptial with cramps. Dont know if it is the baby getting ready to come or the Krohn's. I am watching my grandson for a few days so no exercise/training for me until at least tomorrow. Maybe that's not a bad thing. let the body rest up a bit.
Know what you mean about finding extra food while training. I found a snack bar in my bag the other days after swimming. I think it was there from sometime during the summer but it still tasted good after my workout. It was well packaged so it may have been one of those which had a shelf life of about 10 years.

Don't ya hate it when you get a flat tire, replace the tube and the 2nd tube goes within 1 minute. And ya in my lack of foresight do not even have a 3rd tube or a new tread. Must be something in the tread that the tube can feel under pressure that I can not feel with my fingers.

So... how long do tire treads last on bikes anyway. This is the 2nd tread that apears to have worn out around 1500 miles? Is that about par for bike tires or do I need to find a tougher brand somewhere?

The only reason this is a big deal is that the "local" bike shop is 100 + miles away one way. So can't swim, can't bike weather is in the 20's for the weekend (high), guess that leaves run for me.

Our contractor is like totally doing nothing on our home addition as well. Granted he was in the hospital recently, but um couldn't he have his guys put shingles on a roof without him being physically present? Or drywall, do you need the boss on location to show you how to drywall? And of corse the county inspector was on vacation for the exact 2 weeks when the structure was ready for the preliminary inspection. This is 6 months into the project, the room is 16 by 24, OMGOsh I won't have to shave my head for my next event, I will have pulled all my hair out by then. Training is hard enough when all you have to deal with is the training and work and family. Sigh, rant over.

Yeah had that happen with contractors at my house too.  The guy's kids got sick and he couldn't be there which I understand but still not sure why the rest of his guys couldn't be there and work.

Check your rim tape for anything on it or spoke that poked through.  I think the wear depends on what you are doing, if you are riding the trainer I believe that it is harder on the tire than regular road riding.

There are more durable tires out there.  Check out www.probikekit.com they are in england but are cheap and still get you just as quickly as anything in the states will.
