Subject: RE: Team Post Padding (Four-Is-More Challenge)sparco - 2008-09-25 11:52 AM otter_sh - 2008-09-24 9:24 PM Mine was caused by wrong type of shoes and longer runs Wrong shoes (Nikes) for me, and not following the 10% rule (increase weekly mileage NO MORE than 10% each week)... I had acute ITBS two years ago that required 6 weeks completely off running and PT for 3 months to get me to the start line of the Chicago Marathon. The pain I'm feeling is definitely ITB inflammation as I've been there before, but it's early stage and can be controlled if I'm careful. Mine is caused from weakness in my hips. My hamstrings are dominant and cause some issues. I need to work on my hips every day, maybe 2x/day just like I did in PT. I need to ice whenever possible and stretch, stretch, stretch. I don't think weeks off are required, but if the pain gets worse, I will knock off the mileage a bit. I've missed so much training already (5 weeks) that this marathon is starting to look like a bad idea. Honestly, more time missed and it's going to be a 26.2 mile not-so-fun run. |
