Stairs are key on cruises!!!  I love rooms at the front or back with all the motion!!!  Just not when I smack my head.

I tried out the paddles Kelly recommended this morning - I nearly drowned!  All I could handle was 200 meters, then I had to switch over to my old ones.  Which by the way I tried without the wrist strap, and that was a big fail.  I was clawing the sides for dear life.  I clearly have issues with paddles.

Speaking of 5k's.  Really have just started getting back into things. It's been a long winter!! Had my first open 5k since last February, with no base. I mentioned last week I wasn't sure what I would do at the start line. Race, or just run.  Well that went out the window as soon as I got to the start line. PR'ed my 5k at 20:38, on a somewhat hilly course. 25th overall out of almost 700, and 1st in 30-34.  Happy with that since I haven't been running.  I need to test myself again once I build my base up again.Yes Jeff-y. I wanted to puke. That's what you're supposed to feel like, correct? Then I had an amazing Corned Beef Sandwich and Harpoon IPA. Can't beat it!!!

Have a great Sunday

So much for holding back  That's fast, Jeff!  Fantastic job!

I would argue its not a paddles issue, its an early vertical forearm issue.

Good job Jeff.  Really fast and with so little training recently.

Swim, run, core in today.  I hit some 100s at 1:30.  I was super stoked.  Now to push that pace out a bit.  I'm supposed to have a ReTul fit this Saturday at 2 but Cindy has the Warrior Dash at 9.  May have to postpone.

yup - your arm and hand position is all wrong.  a swim with paddles should be no harder than any other swim.  try with a pull buoy between your legs to help you focus on arm position without worrying about anything else.

most likely you are doing something with your elbow, crossing the mid-line or wrist position.  its really hard to say without watching you.  but just keep swimming with the paddles and when they dont come off your wrists you'll know you corrected the issue.

This.  It's a really awkward movement at first.  I really had to visualize it and find a swim thought to start grooving this.  Still not there.  Yell

Probably not.  She's probably dropping her elbow (but as Jeff said you can't tell for sure without seeing it).

You want to almost imagine that you have "robot arms" and drag your elbow along the surface of the water during the pull phase of your stroke.  Your elbow should almost form a right angle between your forearm and your upper arm for the front part of your pull.

Just in from a 5 mile run. Good lord it's humid today. Dad's weather thing shows 92% here at his house and I can believe it after that slog-fest.

jsklarz - 2012-03-12 12:18 PM way to run fast bizzaro jeff!  Did you do Toad's?

Hartford Marathon put on the first O'Putnam St Patricks 5k. They attracted almost 700 runners for this first time event.  Mainly because HMF does everything great, and there was free beer and a corned beef sandwich, which was awesome.

Focus is now the Ten Penny Ale Duathlon May 20th, and 3 mountain bike races prior to that.  Should be swimming by the end of April.

I've been in a mental funk most of the winter.  hoping to get out of that rather quickly. So I apologize for not posting much.

I get mental funks dude.  A couple conversations with my Dad mind f'ed me a while back and I haven't really been able to shake it.

Anyway thoughts on the QR CD0.1.  If I could get last year's ultegra version for $2500ish would that be a good buy?  Assuming it fits etc, etc, etc.

My wife loves her black CD.01 I bought her in November from Tri Sports. It was Ultegra and I put on a 3T base and aero bar.

Kinda what I was thinking.  I don't like the bars, but otherwise seems like a really solid ride.  There is a new shop less than 5 miles from my house.  They were supposed to open last Spring and opened right after Christmas so they have a TON of last year's models to off load.

Morning, all.  Speaking of mental funks...I think I'm there right now.  I feel pretty meh about training, and I am sure it's because I can't run.  My entire spring season is lost, and that pretty much sucks.  I just hope I can catch up by tri season.

My daughter is doing so well in her private lessons.  I just ordered her her first big girl Speedo last night.  She doesn't like the feel of her goggle strap being high up, so she rests is low on her head, and then her goggles leak.  Conrad has his tryout tomorrow night.  It ought to be interesting!

Have a great day.

I watched a bunch of swim videos last night, and I think Kelly is right.  My elbows are all wrong.  I don't cross over in front, I think that part is ok.  But when I start to pull my arms are not quite straight, but close to straight, pointing/facing down to the bottom of the pool.  I know my elbows are not near the surface, nor bent very much.  I have some things to work on...

GM peeps.  60's here all week.  Too bad I can't skip out on work, but now that we changed the clocks ahead, it gets dark at 7!! So I can prob get some rides in at night.

Scored an unbelievable deal on a new Mountain Bike. Some friends just bought the 2012 Specialized Epic Comp 29"er. It's $3500. I was really in need of a new race bike. But didnt want to spend that much money right now. Long story short, found a local guy selling his 2012 Epic Comp.  He busted his ankle up in motorcross, and needed to sell his bike.  I talked him downt o $1,900!!  What a steal. And it's been ridden about 8-10 times.  Normally for racing, I'd ride a Hard Tail.  But this is full suspension, and made for racing.  It's as light and as fast as a hardtail. and the rear suspension has this new technology that Specialized calls "the Brain".  It happens to know when to compress and when not to, especially when sprinting.

Have a great day

Your spring season is not lost.  You've been given the opportunity to build some quality bike base so that you can run to your full potential off the bike at Rev 3 in September.

If that's the case your arm is slipping in the water and you're getting a really small pull zone.  Let me see if I can find some good pcitures of what it should look like.
