Eff-a-duck. Okay. Totally random Yanti self-obsessed thought time (oh wait, that's not random and that's not a specific time, it's all the time). In an inspire, someone said I'll probably outlive everyone despite always having these crazy illnesses. I just realized that my dad is turning 83 in a couple of weeks and he's literally had one life-threatening, hospitalizing episode (illnesses, injuries, infections, everything in between) after another since he was my age, so almost 50 years. AAAAAAAH DEAR GOD PLEASE DON'T LET THAT BE ME Hm. So maybe God, whomever or however God may be, is trying to tell me something. And it's probably not that I won't die until I'm a thorough curmudgeon believing I've got complete control of the universe and everyone in it. I've watched my dad horribly mismanage all of his illnesses (chronic and acute emergent episodes), cherry-pick doctors AND cherry-pick from what they tell him, and exacerbate his conditions time and time again. This is all sounding horribly familiar. did you answer your own question...??? Yanti - you are ahving...issues...now, but it too will pass! your lifestyle is healthy and eventually, you'll work you way out of this all... IF YOU REST and DONT PUSH IT! Right-hand column of thumbnails, fifth down. does her shirt say 'bikehore?!" ahahahaha!! 8th down - MY MAN MACCA! Heard from him on Facebook (I'm a VIP member of something!) and said it was a tough day at the office. He felt flat throughout, couldn't get his power numbers up at all so called it a day. BUT his coach said he has fire in his eyes he's not giving up just yet! He's going to re-evaluate his training as he did some different things, particularly altitude training. Also had a longer taper I think. Plus spent the previous year focussing on short distance to not get selected for the Olympics. so when I'm not loving Lance, I'm loving Macca. "swoon" Oh Manatees.... |

I am just trying to be sure I'm making the right decisions and doing everything I can to continue moving forward. Again, thanks! No Adrienne, THANK YOU. I've been sitting out here re-reading this morning after reading all this last night. And the thought hit me again about how slow my improvement has been. But I do have a theory on the gains I have seen, gradual as they are. My theory is PIP, or Patience, Improvement, Plateau. I have to be patient, then after a bit of time (a month or more at times) I'll see some improvement. It may be speed, or form, or breathing, or nutrition, or whatever. And there I sit for a while, at my plateau. More Patience, then more Improvement, then another Plateau. It is a cycle for me. A cycle of education. It sounds like you may need a little patience. But Good Golly Miss Salty, step back for a minute and analyze where you are. You have made the decisions that moved you forward so far. You have taken the coached workout step. You have devoted the effort. And you still find the joy in running. So take a deep breath and appreciate it (which it sounds like you do), then put your head back down and keep on keeping on. You are an incredible running machine! |

You are an incredible running machine! You are absolutely correct. But I sometimes sway from your PIP to mine (Panic! Impatience, Ponder)
And to the comment Tracy made, yeah, I mean of course there are SOME metrics here. I'd ultimately like to run a sub 2:44 marathon, get my HM down to 89 minutes, then 85, then sub 80. My 5K is not something I focus on too much but it would be nice to get in the 18 minutes. I just don't like the idea of saying, "My goal is a xx:xx this race" because I just think there are so many variables. |

![]() | ![]() I have to say again that I wish this group wasn't so far flung around the world (although that is part of what makes everyone so interesting!) because it would be so incredibly fun to get together for a run or bike or just for the heck of it. Manatees rock! Salty - since I don't have any qualifications whatsoever to make any training recommendations, I won't. I will just say trust your instincts, believe in yourself and have faith in your goals. If we want something bad enough, we will find a way to achieve it or to do the very best we can short of achieving it. Also, you get to run at some really cool places! Reece - you are da man running in 20-30 mph winds. Those last 1.6 miles: fuggetaboudit. Kate and Anne Marie - good to see you pop in and say hi! Kirsten - your lightbulb and ding ding ding ding comment made me laugh Yanti - sounds like you and Jim have your hands full with the Funny Farm. Please continue to recover and rest, or at least kinda rest. I realize there is no keeping you down! Jo - awesome swim! Love how you were motivated by Bethann, went to do a workout you didn't feel like doing and then had a great time while doing it. That's the stuff! Felicia - glad to hear you aren't too sore from your race that that the knee pain has subsided. My apologies if I missed anyone or anything. Posts kinda exploded since the last time I was on yesterday! |

![]() | ![]() amd723 - 2012-10-15 7:02 PM And Salty, wow, that is some crazy mileage! Just how many pairs of running shoes have you gone through anyway?! Actually. I have only gone through one pair. As in the pair is retired. But they aren't totally retired, they are in a drawer at my desk just in case. I do have about 8 pair (all different styles) in rotation. Don't worry, I'm not a hoarder or anything. I just think the large rotation and the fact I can squeeze a lot of miles out of a pair helps. I do have a pair that are about at their end so I am going to need to purchase some more and probably another pair of racing flats as mine are getting up there. |
