Pro 4100 Wherever the trail takes me, WA. | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Time to replace them... You don't HAVE to go to a shop... You can order on-line.... You should not be getting INSTANT flats though. Make sure you are not pinching the tube, as well some times there may be gravel, thorn, or glass (VERY TINY) poking through the wheel. Run you fingers along the INSIDE of your tire to make sure. But 2 Tube blow intsantly? Shouldn't EVER happen.... There is a pinch, or a sharp object hitting your tube. |

Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL HI gang. I was away for a few days bt made it back safely :-). My daughter is doing fine but still in the hospital. She might be there until the baby comes now. That is only for about a week. Anyway while I was babysitting my grandson I was watching TV and came across a feature on the HIM I will be doing next year in Muskoka here in Ontario. It is part of the Subara series and was very interesting. One of the things which I found amazing watching the professionals was the stroke rate they had on the swim. It looked like the rate I use when I am doing sprints. I don't know how they managed to keep that pace up. The leader was coming out of the water around 20/25 minutes. I know I would be double that for the distance right now. It was a rainy day for the race but it might not have been too bad as at least it would have helped keep a little cool. The winner finished in just over 4 hours. That would be about the time I figured I would be heading out for the beginning of my run. at least I hope I would be heading out about then and not still on the bike. THis race is one of the qualifying ones for the Ironman triathlons throughout the season. This was a slow rest/recovery week for me due to a number of factors. I have my calendar set for next as far as training goes. I am going to do an Olympic 21 week training plan starting mid January. I may amend it slightly as I can easliy do the early distances and workout at the start. Once I get to within 21 weeks of my HIM I am going to change over to that program. That way I will be able to easily do the Olympic while targetting my true "A" race the HIM in Sept. Enough for now. I am heading out to get my Christmas shopping done now. I need to find 2 Wii's for my kids. That should fill up my day at this time of year. Have a great weekend all. |

Expert 1231 B'ham | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I did a trail run w/ LOTS o'CLIMBING today. It was about 4.4 miles from the trailhead to the summit and about 1600 ft elevation gain. We had a group of nine, some from work and some from the running club, and believe it or not I wasn't the slowest - actually one of the faster ones going up. Coming down was actually less enjoyable, very fast, very jarring and slippery. My feet are killing me tonight, I think from the pounding of the descent. And it was 34* when I left the house and we encountered snow and ice well before the summit. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL This weekend was a total wash more or less. I did a run on Sunday, but mostly researched bike tires and ended up ordering them online. No bike shop within 140 miles (3 one north, one south one west) have any tires remotely close to what I need and it would take longer for them to order them than it will take to get them to my house for the same price. So no biking. I spent alot of time researching and went with the Michelin Pro3 race tires. We see how those go. Roads have been, are and will be glare ice all weekend. I could ice skate to town. And our area does not belive in road maintanance for snow, "just let it melt" whenever the weather warms up. I had considered driving 200 miles to go swim, but did not want to put chains on and do the drive at 30 mph for 1 hour swim. So ya. Took some time to rest up and get healthy... well to rest up, the healthy part may well never happen. It is 1 month now to my mary and I fully expect to have lung crud in my lungs until then (3 weeks so far). |

Pro 4100 Wherever the trail takes me, WA. | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Good morning!!!!!! A couple things: 1st) I went for a run @ 5:30 this morning! Great! It was 14 FRICKIN DEGREE'S!!! I have never run in that cold of weather! Kim's legs were BRIGHT RED when we got home (she had pants on during the runs as well.... INSERT JOKE HERE...)!!! But what an adventure. Snow and ice on the ground, no clouds in the sky... The moon... The stars!!! FOLKS THIS IS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!!! It was totally worth it!!!
2nd) I agree with the mentor thing.... I am creating another group in the next session, and I WOULD LOVE for you all to stay with it..... Not so much for the "learning aspect" of the group, but more for each other, and the NEWBIES coming up!!! I want us all to stay as a team if you guys are ok with that?! Once it is up and running just chime in, or I will send you the link! |

Just think - a whole new class of Tracies (is that the plural of Tracy???). |

Once it is up and running just chime in, or I will send you the link! I'm up with the continuation next year. I'm going to need some exceptional mentoring to get through the HIM I have planned. Speaking of which I want to do a bunch of tri's next year. I am plannning on doing at least 1 oly and was thinking about several super sprints/sprints. What is your take on doing the other sprints and timing for them to be in the best physical and mental condition for the HIM. I'm not at all worried about the Oly as I know I can cover the distances involved with it and I think the I will do it in late June or early July. The HIM is Sept 19 so what is the latest I should be doing these other Tris? The super sprints/sprints will be like a training day for me especially the super sprints. |

Pro 4100 Wherever the trail takes me, WA. | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I have to be really honest about the SPRINT'S!!! I think they are a waste of time for YOU! Training for a 1/2 Ironman and training for the sprints.... NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE SAME!!! There is not much benefit for you to race these.... They will be fun, but it is NOT GOING TO HELP YOU TRAIN FOR YOUR 1/2 Ironman!? It is a great waste of your time... Think about it... You are going to go out one day and swim 1/4 mile, bike 12, run 3 miles... WHEN IN REALITY you should be going out for a 40-50 mile ride 3-4+ hours, and a 8-10 mile run, etc.... I just don't see value in them!? JUST MY OPINION!! That and they are frickin' expensive to do those races! They are great races, and fun, but FROM A TRAINING PERSCEPTIVE?!? I don't know?! |

So I understand your reasoning behind the sprints and they make sense. What would your suggestion be for training and races then? Should I do a couple of olys or maybe the oly and a couple of long sprints e.g 750 swim 30k bike and 7.5 run and forget about the super sprints and regular distance sprints? Or should I generally forgo the races and concentrate on the training more. I like the races though just to be "training" with other people. Welll I am off to hockey now. I have 2 hours planned. I'm kind of getting the hang of this not working thing. I think I could be happy if I could retire. Lots of time to do the things I want to do. Unfortunately that is not the case just yet. I still need to put in a few more years unless I win the lottery. |

Also need to get on the trainer tonight if I have time. Working on writing a program for someone to get some extra parts for my bike, lol I might get enough out of this gig to buy a powertap and aerobars for my new build. |
