Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, that didn't make sense to me. Can you explain better? Also, now that I am riding more now are there things I need to do with my bike to maintain? You talk about cleaning chains, what do it do.Also need to talk about nutrition on the bike cuz I am not getting enough. |

Humidity actually makes you faster (on the bike). The weight of the mosit air pushing down on you causing an increase in speed. On just flat & downhills? Uphill would be more difficult then? (I still prefer cool, dry climate.) |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is probably different for everyone, but if you're feeling ill, when do you pass on training? I have a pretty gross cough right now. I thought I'd start my long ride tomorrow and see how it goes. Obviously I will pull the plug if I am coughing up my lungs. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jen – feel better! in my opinion, if you are feeling that bad, you could probably benefit more from the rest then from the training session.Good luck to Scott, Kelly, and Rudy! Have a great race this weekend! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jarvy01 - 2012-06-16 6:15 AM Logistically this is not easy unless you live within driving distance. Vineman is a huge stress trying to figure out the bike shipping. Not to mention wetsuit, helmet, shoes, tri crap! But I spent every summer as a kid in Tahoe, my family had a cabin on the lake. I LOVE Tahoe, so this is going to be hard to pass up. Maybe 2014 so I can save up $$$. karen26.2 - 2012-06-15 10:27 PM IM Lake Tahoe 2013 ![]() I was really hoping for something in the Midwest. Steelhead and Louisville are it. The discussions on altitude is interesting. A couple summers ago I flew out and spent a week with my brother in Tahoe. First run I thought I was gonna die! Forgot about altitude. I was running easy and could not figure out why breathing was so hard, and my HR was elevated. But then we rode around the lake and I didn't notice it. Hard hilly ride, but breathing was fine. I showed my husband the ironman page and he just sighed. |

Texas is on the radar. That's drivable, and early in the year. I really hate training over the summer. Tahoe is in Sept., isn't Texas in May? |

No IM for me until 2014, as I will still have a kid at home with me all day, and another one is only in school during the afternoon. It would be a drain on my family. I want to do Eagleman and Cedar Point 70.3s next summer with some olys sprinkled in there too. I want to do IM Mont Tremblant in 2014 2013 is the year of the triathlon bike for me. I think I will be ready for it after this season. Christmas $$$$$!!!! |

Steelhead sucks, and Louisville is a possibility at some point (mostly because heat doesn't bother me and this one is hot, so I may have an advantage there |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=446124 I did my write up which I may add to later. Swim: 39:56 I'll give a brief description here. Swim: Choppy as he!! and not in a pattern you could adjust to. I got punched in the face by another swimmer so hard I thought he broke my jaw or cheek bone. He pull my swim cap off in the process. Got kicked in the hip by another swimmer really hard. Overall the most contact on any swim I've done. I expected to be about 5 minutes faster but given everything not too bad. T1: Not a bad time for me but my wetsuit zipper was stuck and require me to get help. If not for that I would have had a great transition time. Bike: My back started really acting up and it never gives me trouble. I'm not sure if it was the kick I received in the hip or having to work so hard on the swim because of the chop but the second half I couldn't push up hill. T2: Disappointing. I did slow down so I could run with a friend who hit T2 the same time as me but that may have cost me 20 seconds so it still sucked. Worth the 20 seconds though as we talked strategy and it left me very calm even though he dropped off after mile 3. Run: This was the part that had me worried and it was my best discipline of the day. I have no complaints. Started out the first 5 miles running 8:35-45 and finished the last 3 in the 9:47-10 range and did have quad cramping. Two people caught me in the shoot and I was able to sprint the last 300 yards at 6:20 pace. That's fast for me doing intervals so I was really shocked that I could still push it like that. Overall: I'm pleased. Not the numbers I expected but I raced a really smart race making good decisions and not worrying about my pace or overall results. |
