Vineman is a huge stress trying to figure out the bike shipping. Not to mention wetsuit, helmet, shoes, tri crap! But I spent every summer as a kid in Tahoe, my family had a cabin on the lake. I LOVE Tahoe, so this is going to be hard to pass up. Maybe 2014 so I can save up $$$.karen26.2 - 2012-06-15 10:27 PM IM Lake Tahoe 2013 ![]() I was really hoping for something in the Midwest. Steelhead and Louisville are it. The discussions on altitude is interesting. A couple summers ago I flew out and spent a week with my brother in Tahoe. First run I thought I was gonna die! Forgot about altitude. I was running easy and could not figure out why breathing was so hard, and my HR was elevated. But then we rode around the lake and I didn't notice it. Hard hilly ride, but breathing was fine. I showed my husband the ironman page and he just sighed. Karen-- you need a bike bag. Makes traveling to far away races much easier. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Scott - great racing! Kelly - I know, I may have to invest in one. I was thinking Vineman would be it, but I get sucked in so easy. I must stop reading about Tahoe or I'll find myself signed up tomorrow! (Tom poured us beers last night and wanted to toast??? I played along and he said "Lake Tahoe". Great, I know where he wants to go next year....and since he does not do tris, that leaves me.) |

Swim: 39:56 I'll give a brief description here. Swim: Choppy as he!! and not in a pattern you could adjust to. I got punched in the face by another swimmer so hard I thought he broke my jaw or cheek bone. He pull my swim cap off in the process. Got kicked in the hip by another swimmer really hard. Overall the most contact on any swim I've done. I expected to be about 5 minutes faster but given everything not too bad. T1: Not a bad time for me but my wetsuit zipper was stuck and require me to get help. If not for that I would have had a great transition time. Bike: My back started really acting up and it never gives me trouble. I'm not sure if it was the kick I received in the hip or having to work so hard on the swim because of the chop but the second half I couldn't push up hill. T2: Disappointing. I did slow down so I could run with a friend who hit T2 the same time as me but that may have cost me 20 seconds so it still sucked. Worth the 20 seconds though as we talked strategy and it left me very calm even though he dropped off after mile 3. Run: This was the part that had me worried and it was my best discipline of the day. I have no complaints. Started out the first 5 miles running 8:35-45 and finished the last 3 in the 9:47-10 range and did have quad cramping. Two people caught me in the shoot and I was able to sprint the last 300 yards at 6:20 pace. That's fast for me doing intervals so I was really shocked that I could still push it like that. Overall: I'm pleased. Not the numbers I expected but I raced a really smart race making good decisions and not worrying about my pace or overall results.
Congratulations Scott! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks guys. Another thing I thought of this morning. I did my first half marathon 15 months ago in 1:59:56 and ran it yesterday in 1:59:35. Similar terrain and 21 seconds quicker after doing a swim and bike. My rankings were 261 swim, 249 bike and 257 run. In prior races I had been top 10% swim, top 20% bike and bottom 20% run. Being very level is a good feeling and confirms for me that I ran a smart race. Rudy WOW are you a good cyclist. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() carrie639 - 2012-06-16 9:19 PM Steelhead is an HIM with the swim frequently cancelled, however many friends love that race. Cedar point has a full. Muncie is a HIM. Oops. I guess Steelhead is a 70.3. Still....I will never sign up for it because the swim gets cancelled every other year. That's my strongest sport, and I need it to be part of the race. Replacing the swim with another run? Haha....that doesn't help me at all (doesn't sound fun either) I am doing Cedar Point this summer and next summer, so I am not stuck on WTC events. I just want to do one at some point. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lots of ice packs yesterday. My training partner talked me into meeting him for an OWS this morning and I was cursing him driving there. The first trip across my heart rate was through the roof for the (lack of) effort I was putting in. Felt like crap. The way back I felt pretty good and said lets do another trip. By the end which works out to a mile I felt 100X better than before we started. Glad I did it. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Scott - I agree with Kelly, trial & error. Fortunately it only took me 2 saddles and I found one I like. At $100+ each it can get kind of spendy. The try it and buy it program Steve mentions is probably the best way to do, assuming the place has a large variety. I've heard good things about Cobb or Adamo, but have never tried either. Good luck, a bad saddle can suck! I have a rest day today too - and I'm glad! Long weekend. |

What's the best way to figure out the best saddle for you?? Trial and error. Where are you having issues with your current saddle? 60 miles tore up my nether regions on Saturday. Nothing too unbearable but I figure if I'm going to go 112 I might want to find one that doesn't hurt too bad. Could have been the shorts I had on were slightly too big as well. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. My was pretty good. Went to NC and left the two older kids there to visit with the Grandparents. For fathers day I got a nathan's quick draw bottle, 2xu running visor, and the "Pain, What pain" shirt from breakawaytshirts Training was good. I did a hilly run for 1:20 on Saturday and then 2hrs on the trainer yesterday which was awesome! I kept all the settings like I normally do but I was having to average 20-21 mph to get my heart rate high enough. Only spikes where because I was watching baseball and getting into the game a little And on a final note. I signed up for another local sprint today! Well local by being within and hour and half from my house. I figured I need to fill in something for the weekend my family is driving up to MI to visit family leaving me here by myself. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 90+ degrees here all week and no a/c. I am in hell. Good way to lose these last 5 lbs., as I'm not hungry at all in this heat. Just trying to find the bright side of this situation. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Injury question for anyone, with this stress fracture in my foot, what am I supposed to feel week to week, how much discomfort should I feel 2 weeks out, 4 weeks out (from stopping running). I have googled the hell out of stages of pain, what to expect with healing and can't find anything. It's frustrating not knowing if the pain, soreness or discomfort is normal. Is the biking and swimming causing it, etc. Should I completely lay off everything, no exercise, etc. HELP, ANYONE |

When I had one in my toe it hurt a lot, and for a while. Every time I bent the toes (as in just walking) I could feel the pain. The heel only hurt when I would jump, jog or run. Walking it was fine, never felt any pain. The fibula (I think that's where it was) there was minimal pain unless running or stressing it with weight. Just walking it was fine. What did the doctor say? I would be concerned that you're feeling pain. You don't want to prolong the time it takes to heal. I'd call the doctor and see what they say. |

Is there any place around you that you can go in for a free consult (I know they do them at the Y here). |
