Glad that everyone seems to be doing well. I hope that everyone has a great weekend. Better get back to work. We have a new website rolling out over the weekend. We have data to finish converting and I have to do training on it next Monday and Tuesday (and again the following Monday and Tuesday). Things should calm down at work by midweek. Training is going well. My right hamstring is acting up a bit on long runs but I am dealing with it (PT, stretching, foam rolling, etc.). Must get it better in the next four weeks! Janyne, I'm right with ya. We ran an upgrade to our core processing system on Saturday. This week has been cr@p. The entire tier 1 staff changed over in the past 4 months, so I get to train all of them (because the IT team can't possibly be expected to understand the core?!?! WTF is that?). I also have to oversee my DP department, which is short due to illness and vacay. Of course the two ladies that are out are the most capable people in my team! Ah well, at least I know I'm employed for at least another couple of weeks. Unless I find a gun I rode on a real road for the first time since Debby dumped nearly a foot of water on us. It was cool. Extra cool, since my DW gave me arm coolers for my B-Day this week. Training has suffered from work and rain, but it is all good because I am not ill like our fearless leader, nor are there any pics of me poledancing. That I know of. However there are pics of my running trails in my album, feel free to take a look. I'll try to add something from this weekend's group ride. Race well you running Manatees! |

We all did it while you were gone just to mess with you. Daammnnnnnn youuuuu (I'm shaking my fist) I am with you all on the work wagon. I've been asked to write myself a job description...possibly a diagonal move if I execute (I say diagonal because it's somewhat lateral with the potential to move up...) So yeah, I am a little stressed with everything on my plate. Luckily I will be tapering so I will have a little extra time. |

Surely we will be doing some sort of training this weekend, so let's each take a picture of where we run or bike (bike is what I was truly wanting, but maybe not everyone is biking this weekend) and post them to out thread. I think it will be interesting to see where everyone trains! Not training this weekend for one reason or another? Post a pic that is 'typical' of your area. I love this idea!!!!! Hmmmm, so I will be going on a run with some of the Brooks Olympians/Olympic Hopefuls this weekend in Eugene. This certainly won't be a typical... You suck. Unless you can get me one of the cool Brooks Eugene tshirts. Women's XL please. |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Unexpected day off of work today. I made it to my parking lot and got a call from daycare saying I had to pick my daughter up. Looks like she has a stomach bug, but other than some yuck diapers this morning is just fine. I'd take her for a run, but with a heat index of 113 right now it is not safe for either of us to be out there. It is supposed to be like that all weekend, so I might be running on the dreadmill instead. It sucks, but I really don't want to risk heat stroke. |

Dreadmill sucks but you can make it not suck. I always set a very specific goal when I am on the mill as it makes the time go faster. Sometimes it's working on periods of time with as close-to-perfect form as I can, sometimes it's working on hydration and my favorite, eating, and sometimes it's taking it nicccce and slow and reading or something. |

Tonight's swim was special though...I met with the local swim meetup group--their swim goes from the shore of Beals Point all the way across to the beach on the other side of Beals....Which after measuring tonight, is about 1200 meters....I didn't make it to the other shore (those fast buggers had started their return to the beach--and I didn't want to be left all alone in boat and jet-ski infested waters!), but I did make it 1000 meters out to the far side--and then another 1000 back---so I got a 2000 meter workout tonight! It took me 55 minutes, which is kinda slow...more so considering that another swimmer had mostly lost her swim cap and was then doggy paddling on the return trip--I was unable to get more than 1 length or so in front of her the WHOLE way back....somewhat discouraging. In any case, I swam farther than I ever thought possible, I did not stop....and I kicked asthma's butt tonight. For that, I am happy. I now feel somewhat ready for the olympic swim portion....the bike and run...well, we'll see. Nice work, Kate! That is a 2km OWS! Way to take on the challenge and just get it done! Seriously! Don't sell yourself short, kate, that is AWESOME. I did 800 meters last weekend and thought that was great, and I stopped...a lot... 2K is great! |

It's not tri-related, but I've got a dressage clinic on Sunday with one of the east coast's top trainer - my first show-like event of the season with a new horse (actually he's a pony - ridiculously cute) I've been riding for a couple months (not mine)...who was a terror last night! So, wish me luck and hopefully I look like some semblance of a competent rider on Sunday. Got another lesson Saturday to work out the kinks...Don't know that I'll get any tri training in, since it's been making me sore and tight and that is the last thing a dressage rider should be. Maybe yoga tomorrow and SUnday. |

As a kid, we had a lot of property and let our friends keep their reject shetland pony in our yard. It was short lived. I had it galloping and then, just to be a jerk, it STOPPED and put it's head down. Ugh...I hated that thing. |

This guy isn't too bad (his name is Munchkin, how can you stay mad at a pony named munchkin??), but he hadn't been worked in about a week and during that time he convinced himself that the things we were trying to teach him were bullsh-t and that he should do anything in his power to not be brainwashed by us again. |

Heh. I have been involved in the past few years in teaching a large animal lab. I LOVE horses, but my experience with them is pretty much limited to what I learned while in tech school. The one thing I do know, and am good at, is making the horse THINK that I am the boss, in charge, and know what I am doing. As long as I can convince them of that, we get along fine. Not unlike the students really... Edited by bcraht 2012-06-29 3:21 PM |
