From my experience your HR will be higher at a certain pace compared to just going out and running. Some people say you can be up to a 1min per mile slower. However, I have also heard people set PR's off of the bike in races. I believe Kelly has actually set a Marathon PR off the bike. |

However, I have also heard people set PR's off of the bike in races. I believe Kelly has actually set a Marathon PR off the bike. That (setting a PR) is impressive. What was also strange was that my legs felt fine for the majority of the run but I had to slow my pace slightly to stay in my HR Zone. Toward the end of the run, however, my legs began to feel dead. However, my HR dropped while still running at the same pace. So, I increased my pace to the one where I initially began and my HR stayed within the zone it should be in. |

Did an 11.8 mile run Saturday, a 56 mile bike and 3.5 mile run Sunday - looking forward to my "recovery" week, then the half-M. If the weather will just cooperate!! |

Extreme Veteran 826 Bristow | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED 2k in the pool done with front end drills. My breathing was off today. I think because I was focusing on the drills so much. The good thing was I finally felt the FULL stroke. I didn't' feel like there was any dead spots today. Slow and steady. Now if I can just take that into Thursday's speed sets. Tabata drills later today. |

Any suggestions out there? (yeah, it's early but many camps and coaching programs have training weeks around that time so I want to find a place to stay asap).
Thanks |

Regular 211 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED ccmpsyd - 2013-02-16 8:57 AMSo something strange happened during my morning swim. I noticed while doing a fist drill set that I wasn't doing my spastic scissor kick but instead was doing a 2 beat flutter kick when I stroked. It kind of kept me moving so I didn't sink. I also did sets with paddles and could feel the water rushing by me when I pulled. By my last 600 free set I was still doing the 1-2 flutter kick and could tell that I was pulling harder. The strange thing was that I did not feel tired when I was done. Yeah!! Maybe I somehow corrected my spaz scissor kick. Congrats! My experience here is not anywhere near broad enough to be representative, but it seems to me that improvements don't occur gradually. Rather, at least for me, you struggle and struggle with something and then one day, for no reason you can see, a light goes on. Maybe that's what's going on with you also. In any event, be happy! You earned it. |

Regular 211 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED So I've had two good workouts in two days - 40 minute run yesterday with some muscle soreness but no real pain, and 3250 in the pool this morning consisting of balance catch drills and pull buoy drills. I'm tired, but feeling encouraged that I may actually be making progress!I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm looking forward to warmer weather so I don't have windburn on my face at the end of a run... |

Extreme Veteran 490 Higganum, Connecticut | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED 3 days of travel & training in the first week of March - headed to a warmer climate at least (Atlanta GA) - I hope to actually get outside to run without ice and snow. The hotel pool looks too small for laps, and I'm not so sure about a stationary bike for a 1.5 hour ride...
How do you all support training while traveling? |

How do you all support training while traveling? I am facing the same issue in March. I'm going to Las Vegas with my sister for four days. The hotel doesn't have a lap pool. I looked at pictures online and the pools look small. That really surprised me because it's Vegas (guess people don't go there to exercise...LOL). I'm not flying with a bike. That leaves running and strength training. I'll squeeze in a long ride early the day I fly out, so I know I got that in, and then probably take a rest day there. The running and lifting will have to do. You just have to do your best, Todd. This stuff happens. We're not pros here, and sometimes other things have to take priority (for me, that's family). As long as you're disciplined and consistent on a daily basis, these rare "upsets" in training shouldn't have any effect. I missed a swim while I was out of town this weekend, and I started to feel bad about it last night, but then I remembered how good it felt to be with my mother and my sister (and I don't see them often), and the guilt just faded away. |

This is baby #4 for her, so I'm surprised she's made it this long. She is HUGE. I'm sad I didn't get to witness the birth, but I'm happy I acted as a distraction for her. Madge and I will probably made an overnight trip next weekend to see the baby. She delivers at home via midwives, so I just hope everything is ok. Thanks for asking, Michele. |

HAHA!! Enjoy it! Wait til the new baby comes! But I do agree, in fact even on days I can 'sleep in' by body is waking up naturally at 5am now. |

Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I've been out of the loop. Dealing with a nasty chest cold since Saturday and feeling like crap. The good news is that I got to watch 3 series worth of Doctor Who, which made me happy. The bad news is that I was otherwise pretty useless. I have a hard time with chest colds. They tend to aggrivate my athsma so I have fun with breathing even after the cold is gone. |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Hope you get better quickly Kelly. On the topic of triathlon budgets one of the things I like to do to save money is buy expiring shoes. When the Saucony Kirvana 3's came out I bought two pairs of the 2's on Ebay for $46 each. A new pair of 3's would go for at least twice that. Are the 3's better than the 2's? Sure. Are they twice as good? No. I currently have 400 miles on one pair and 26 miles on the second. So I checked and the 4's are getting released on 5/1 which means I'll be right inline to get a couple pairs of 3's really cheap. |
