Jul 17 - Stage 12 - CAVENDISH BLASTS TO TOUR HAT-TRICK FOR COLUMBIA

Mark Cavendish blasted to his third stage win in the Tour on Thursday, a victory which confirms his overwhelming superiority in the race’s bunch sprints.
For Cavendish stage 12’s win at Narbonne was his tenth road win of the season, and Columbia’s 50th for their men’s team in 2008.

Hey team. As we head into the weekend we are at 57% of our goal. With races and training over the weekend I suspect we will be well over that going into week 3.

Let's go Team Columbia........... here and at that other race (TDF)

Looks like I have to hit it everyday to make my stage goal and put in some "good" rides to get the time goal.  As long as the baby keeps perculating, I think the other distractions are gone and I should be able to do it.

Jul 18 - Stage 13 - CAVENDISH POWERS TO FOURTH STAGE WIN IN TOUR

A baking hot day in southern France saw Mark Cavendish scorch to a fourth stage win in the Tour on Friday. Despite temperatures of over 30C, the Team Columbia pro powered across the line more than two bike lengths clear of Australian Robbie McEwen and Romain Feillu of France.

The rise of Cavendish as the premier sprinter has to be the most exciting news of this year's TdF.  Question is whether he'll abandon the Tour now to get ready for the Olympics, or ride through the Alps and go to Paris?

Good news to report. I got a 10 mile ride in tonight and it felt pretty good. I think I can still make my goal. It'll be tough, but definitely do-able and since I won't be running for a bit yet I should have the extra time for biking. Nice job teamies, and thanks for your support!!!

Got in my first real workout on my Tri bike today!

It's a fun ride but i am still getting used to it. After a little over an hour it was getting harder to stay in aero and after 2 hours it was harder to keep my shoulders relaxed and my saddle started to bug me.

I feel hard core doing max intervals in aero and flying past people cruising on a saturday morning ride.

Jul 19 - Stage 14 - Points competition leader Oscar Freire won Saturday's 14th stage of the 2008 Tour de France, a mostly flat 195km route from Nimes to Digne les Bains.  Overall race leader Cadel Evans (Silence-Lotto) finished in the lead group on the stage to retain his 1-second advantage over Frank Schleck as the race approaches several difficult mountain stages.

A lavendar field

Quadruple stage winner Mark Cavendish has pulled out of the Tour de France prior to the 15th stage, the first of three days in the Alps here Sunday, according to his Columbia team.  He will now set his sights on the Olympic Games, where he will compete for Britain in track cycling's Madison — an event in which he is reigning world champion with Bradley Wiggins.

Great news Roni. Don't over do it with that knee though.

Jeni. Sounds like your really getting the hang of the new bike, putting all those Sunday joy riders to shame

I got my last required stage in yesterday. I got in a 55 minute ride followed by a 30 minute run. felt pretty good but I was laboring a bit at the end of the run.

Not to worry Robin. THat confidence will come back with time on the bike. Just keep going and you will vanquish that fear. I think you are doing great just being out on the road. There are a lot of people who wouldnt even venture out.

Jul 20 - Stage 15 - Team CSC-Saxo Bank battered and isolated race leader Cadel Evans in the first Alpine stage Sunday, coming away with the yellow jersey on the shoulders of Frank Schleck as the GC race tightened.  Evans fell to third, one second behind Gerolsteiner's Bernard Kohl and eight seconds behind Schleck. American Christian Vande Velde (Garmin-Chipotle) is in fifth at 38 seconds, still very much in the hunt.

Thanks and great job on the bike-run brick!!

wow a triple thanks.
I am getting used to the bricks now. It is still a bit weird running run right off the bike. I guess that's why the frst half of my 5Km is almost always about a minute longer than the second 2.5K. I find reaching a good stride is coming more quickly now though.

I have put in 5 stages for 183 miles so far. Tomorrow I plan to do 40 miles, then I'll be over my goal. If it is allowed, would you mind increasing my goals to 7 stages, 245 miles.

I still can't make changes to the spreadsheet, no matter what I do, so I really appreciate you taking over as captain! Thanks a bunch!
