cami bee - 2008-09-17 7:58 AM Okay TAN, here's a mini-poll.  You must list 3 nerdy things about yourself.  The rules, they must be true and you can't try to diminish your nerdiness by following up with "cool" things about yourself.

1. I play computer games... alot...
2. I have built 3 desktop computers.. I currently use 2 desktops and a laptop on my own...
3. I have a Lord of the Rings Tattoo...

1). I'm on the BT forum - alot
2). I setup servers and network schtuff for a living
3). I was a Math major with a Comp Sci minor (how nerdy is that?)

I heart nerds. Comp Sci guys are HAWT

I'm only semi-HAWT due to having a minor in that field.

Well you don't have to bat for that team to make a more encompassing statement.  Something along the lines of: people that spend endless hours working on code in dark rooms are all beautiful and hawt.  See, that wasn't so hard was it

I feel bad - I don't have any nerdy stuff to report.  I will try - but I am afraid it will pale.

1.  I minored in Civil War History and wrote a book about the intolerances of the scorched earth campaign (no longer in print).  I know more off of the top of my head about The Civil War, than twenty normal folks combined.  My daughter had a group project for The Civil War and they came over to our house and just asked me questions to do their project.  The teacher doubted some of their data and asked my daughter where they got their information.  She said "My Step-dad".  Her teacher said, "Well, that's hardly a good source" - and she said, "He wrote a book about General Sherman and the march on Atlanta, I could get you a copy if you like.  He would probably come and teach your class for you too."

2.  I like to do Soduko puzzles and Trivial Pursuit.  I am a member of Mensa, which, with $5, can get you a $5 Footlong at Subway.

3.  I put everything on spreadsheets.

I learned lots of cool Hebrew and Greek words at bible study last night - and I liked it...I guess that makes me kinda nerdy too. All the older women were like "geez, this is so hard! It's like I'm back in college" - I had about 7 pages of notes (that's counting front and back as separate, so really only 3.5 sheets of paper) from the 2 hour class...

I didn't realize Latin and Greek made you nerdy.  I starting taking Latin in seventh grade so when I went to high school in 9th grade, I was with a class of juniors.  The funny part was, our teacher (who was also our principal - a 4-foot-something-nun that nobody ever crossed), would go around the room and call on people, who would them stumble through a few sentences.  Eventually she just gave up and was like, 'Okay Candace', because I always did my homework and I rocked the translations.  I can honestly say that I enjoyed Cicero's Letters to a Friend.  I took Greek the next year but I didn't like it as much, though I remember there was a really long word in the Odyssey that meant 'rosy-fingered dawn'.

Well, in my high school, we had Latin classes, but only the "nerdy" kids took it. Consequently, there was only 1 section of Latin. And definitely no Greek happening. I went to public school.

well... by themselves, I don't think they make you nerdy... you see, at my seminary we were required to take both Greek and Hebrew.  So everyone did it... but those of us who were nerds... KEPT doing it... even after we graduated... I still pay attention to the original languages...

enough so that one day in class when we were reading Karl Barth's Dogmatics, I went and sought out that volume in its original German... and blew my prof away that I could read it AND make a point precisely because I read it in german...  and yeah, I do German too...

Ugh, that sounds like my French class senior year of high school - there were only 2 or 3 of us (including myself) that he ever called on because we could translate it quickly, or read aloud the French with correct pronunciation and without taking forever.

Oh, and apparently, I read poetry aloud very well, as I was always nominated to read things aloud in grad school classes.
