I really wasn't knocking the 24m swim, I was really surprised it was not an error given that it was posted by a 21 year old guy who ended up with a pretty good overall time.I actually had some errors when I pulled the data into MS Excell (i.e. it iss not possible to finish in less than 1.5 hrs when you have a 23hr bike ride), so I was suspicious of some of these outliers.BTW the weather forecast is looking better and better every day!

I have a question and I don't really feel comfortable asking, but there is no time left so I must.  I got my tri-shorts today in the mail, they fit like my bike shorts, they aren't too tight.  Unfortunatly, I looked in the mirror and you could see my man parts quite easily.  Its perfectly outline, is that normal?  I want to keep the view family friendly.

outline - yes (I think that is good, I would be more disappointed with nothing at all. I am assuming male gender)

caveat- I have a pair of PI tri shorts that I swam in the pool with several times, often leaving them damp in the gym bag between uses. After a few uses I put them on and as I was strutting past the mirror in the mens bathroom I noticed the outline of my man bits. I also noticed I could see my man bits. The shorts had disintigrated to be nothing more concealing than transparent black panty hose with a pad between my cheeks. Thus did I learn the lesson- tri shorts lakes, swim specific shorts pool. If you do use the trishorts in the pool make sure they get a good washing, cleansing and drying after said pool time or risk mothers and children creaming at the YMCA.

Hi all,

This is my first season trying to tri, and I really enjoy reading all of your posts!  I hope to run into a few of you down the road this summer, as I will not be doing this particular race, not quite ready yet.  Hope everything goes well for all and look forward to hearing how everybodies race went.

Good Luck!

Ok, I guess I will just have to deal with it, I ordered a pair one size up today and they will be here Friday, if they fit better I will keep them and return the mediums.  Next question. My best friend is doing the tri as well and he plans on swimming in trunks. Is there anywhere to change into running shorts for the bike and swim for him?

Not really.  His best bet is to get a pair of jammers and swim in those.  Else, if he can wear the bike shorts under the trunks...

I mean, there is a lockerroom on the other side of the pool, and down the hall, but that will take a significant amount of time.

Tri shorts are really a must unless his taint can take the abuse of 12.5 miles on the bike. Some people can.

no one changes shorts.  i wear tri shorts (see pic to the left)

i have riddedn olympic tris with just a speedo before.

but just wearing your biking shorts to swim in is better than changing.

so - i am an old guy.  i like to do very little the week before a race.  a few maintanence runs/rides or easy sims.

monday i lifted - hard. i thought nothing of it.

the next day i woke up with a bad pain in my right shoulder.

still thought nothing of it.  figured i slept on it wrong.

wednesday it was worse.  i thought that is strange.

today (thursday 12:05 am) i can't lift my arm high enough to put away the groceries in the cupboards.

i am pretty sure it is a muscle strain but i am mad it happened and mad at myself for doing it.

i am taking motrin, resting and plan on swimming all out saturday with hopes it is on the mend and doesn't bother me too much.

mad mad mad

I can't talk him into jammers or a pair of tri shorts.  I did convince him to wear compression shorts (black) under his trunks and then he can just throw soccer shorts over the top for the bike and run on at T1.  I hope this gives me a huge time advantage on him.

Ok, here is the weather report...  Shaping out to be a really nice afternoon, though it is supposed to be around 45F at 8am.

Still, not too bad!

Ha ha.  If there are no Abbotts or Abers, I usually get the top spot.

thanks for posting the participant list

not sure why i am not listed as age group or masters or elite

what exactly qualifies someone as "elite"  ?

is there a difference in awards?

if i am not listed as elite - can i still win the race?  i certainly have a shot at it.  there was a woman who won the LA marathon who was originally not awarded the win because she wasn't registered as an elite.

elite and pro are not the same thing, elite for these races simply lets you go first in the wave starts, and splits the age group awards out.

overall awards are not effected, only age group, for the purpose of these races elite is simply another age group.

after looking through the start list i would be happy with a top 5 placing, some fast guys coming out.

My shoulder still hurts but i think with competition mentality i will be OK - I will pay for it on Sunday.

I'm happy to be getting there Friday.

I am anxious to see how my ride goes with the new bike.

I am putting my bike shoes on before leaving the trans area.

I was thinking about shirting but with the turn in the weather it will prb be a race belt.

I'm so glad I didn't think about how cold it could have been this weekend.  If I had, I never would have signed up for this!  At least the thoughts of riding wet and cold have distracted me from my general fear of cycling...

More questions:

Is there a locker room for showering and changing afterward?

Parking race morning:  I'm guessing we triathletes (woo hoo - that felt good!) will fill up the parking garage.  Will we be able to drop gear in TA first or do we have to haul all down from the garage?  Do we have to get our packet before we set up in TA?  Do you think the racers will fill up the garage?

Will I have a race number both for me and for my bike?  Can I have a bag (used gear, postrace stuff) in TA?  I read somewhere here that can differ race to race for bags and coolers.

Hmm... thanks for posting the participant list!

I sure hope I can change the swim time because it says I swim the 400 in 12 min....   I know I can get out of the water in about 7min!

yeah, I am thinking about just wearing my tri suit through the whole thing though it may be a bit chilly on the bike!  though Weather.com is calling for 50F by 9am.

http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/45056?dayNum=2

I am shooting for Top 3 in my age group and top 10% overall...

Hope everyone is healthy and ready to go for the weekend!
