I have 3 spots reserved and want to make sure they are together but haven't heard anything yet. Looking forward to camping at the site so I don't have as far to go to get my crippled butt back to the camper after the race. |

Looking forward to camping at the site so I don't have as far to go to get my crippled butt back to the camper after the race. When I spoke to the RD, he said that as the event gets closer, he will contact us about the sites, and if we need the sites together. I was concerned about this as well, since with the reservation process, we didn't get to pick an actual site. I have not heard from them lately, but we still have a month until race time, so I'm not worried. Maybe we could coordinate with Ryan to get ALL the BT campsites together! I believe we have 4 reserved for our group. |

Regular 103 | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Hello! I'm Kacie from Atlanta, and I am signed up for this race. I am being plauged by hip injury, but I am trying to get past it to race! I got an mri today, and it seems that it is not a stress fracture or stress reaction, so hopefully I can still rehab in time for this race! Those hill look like a blast! I am sure that 40 miles in I won't think they look like quite as much fun as I do now though!!! Did I read right that there is some running on trails around the campsite. If now, how much is it on roads vs. trails? |

I can't wait to get on it. Run course is really flat. I'll be able to PR on that seeing as I have never ran a half mary in a race. Was this sarcastic? Bike course elevation: Well, it was a partial joke...At 120 lbs I love the hills. And by the way I was trying to make a point that there is nothing over 3% according to the map and I'll be able to stay in the aerobars. |

9 | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread I'm from Kansas City on the Jackson County side. I don't think I'll be getting out to the bike course before the race. People kind of make me nervous talking about the hills. I do a lot of training around Longview, Blue Springs Lake. Is it hillier or less hilly than those routes? |

And these are even better for lighter riders, because the dowhills aren't too sustained, so the bigger folks don't seem to catch up as easily- or at least that's what I remembered from last year. The only major issue for lighter riders, in particular, is the cross winds. But, I'm sure you're used to it by now |

Expert 608 St. Louis | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Rode the course with Endura camps yesterday. Mostly flat, with two hills within three miles of the first turn around. Another hill was going back up to the dam at like mile 50. Small big ring hills in the park. Ran the run today in 1:42:09. Mostly flat and will only have 2 hills. the one between T1 and T2. I did the bike in 2:55:30. But it was on Saturday(day after the big storm) and we had winds of 20+(sustained) 30+ gusts. We were going 30+mph on the dam with the wind and about 13-mph against the wind. btw did the bike on a road bike(no drafting) without clipons aerobars. |

Tom and I and another friend are going to be camping and we're bringing his dogs. We're trying to find a fourth person so we can stagger the riding so the dogs aren't left in a hot crate at a strange campsite for 3 1/2 hours! We also don't want anyone to ride the course alone, so we kind of need a fourth person. Let me know if you're interested! |

June 14th we could have decent weather, just depends, usually starts getting really hot around here shorttly after the middle of June. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread So I was looking at the maps and the 2009 Athlete Guide today and noticed that there will be two transition areas? Has anyone heard anything about this? I know Austin 70.3 is doing it that way this year since they are having an arena finish (COOL!) that is a mile or so away from everything else, but I can't figure out why IMKS would do this. If that is truly the case, will it be like a full IM race where you have your T1 and T2 drop bags that a volunteer retrieves for you - with no real transition area of your own? Bike catchers to re-rack your bike? So many questions. It would be nice if they were explained in the Athete Guide but I didn't see anything except references to "Transition #1" and "Transition #2" Anyone? |

It would be nice if they were explained in the Athete Guide but I didn't see anything except references to "Transition #1" and "Transition #2" Anyone? Funny we were just talking about this exact same thing after Masters swim this morning. Here was our consensus. THer are two Transition areas. T1 is down by the water, this is where you will come out of the water and get on the bike. T2 is up at the campsite (the one that is right before you go down the hill to the water), this is where you will bike into and get into your run gear to start the run course. SO. . the finish line is up by the campsite or T2. From my understanding, you will need to check your bike in on Sat (put it in T1, by the water) and then set up your T2 Sunday morning, get your wetsuit on and such and then walk down to the water to start the swim. So the only problem that I really see (besides the mile walk down to the water to start the race) is that your wetsuit (if wetsuit legal) will be down in T1 when you are finished with the race. So you will have to go back to T1 and get your wetsuit, goggles, cap, swim stuff. Does that make sense? I hope I explained it well enough. I don't think we will have volunteers retrieving bags, you will have your own transition setup, it will just be in two locations instead of one. Another thought: I guess if you wanted to do any pre bike work or air the tires or put nutrition on, you will have to walk that down to T1 after you set up T2 (at the campsite). Now, if I am wrong, then I am sure I will be corrected, but I am pretty sure we are hacing two transitions areas. Edited by Tell3131 2009-05-19 4:17 PM |

Finally getting some warmer weather here, so that will help to warm up the water. . .but not too much! http://www.kctri.org/ |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Wow the two trantisions sound like a huge pain. In the FAQ it said they are 1/4 mile apart. So athletes will be running back and forth setting things up at both transitions? Then walk a mile to the swim start? Uuughh. WHY???? And again, it would be super fabulous if they would EXPLAIN THIS STUFF on the web site or in athlete communications, especially since it sounds like this setup will be A) different than last year, and B) different than 99% of other triathlons. We are three weeks out and it sounds like no one really knows for sure what the setup will be. We're good at guessing, but there has been no real information provided at all. |

There will be two transitions. . they are a 1/4 mile apart (I may have exaggerated by the 1 mile comment). You will check your bike in on Saturday to T1. . then Sunday morning you will set up your T2 and then walk down (with wetsuit and goggles/cap, nutrition on bike, bottles) and finsih the setup of T1 and then you will swim from there (this is the parking lot right next to the water). Then you will exit the swim, get on your bike and bike out, then bike into T2 and run from T2. I don't think it is that BIG of a deal, yes it is not like most other triathlons. Just take a little more planning/thinking on our part, but in the end, the transitions of putting things on/taking things off, will be the same, just done in different locations. Now, I am not sure about change tents, but one shouldn't need to change for a half ironman. I am sure this will be cleared up by Ryan shortly. Not sure why it was not communicated in the Athlete Guide, maybe there will be a supplement that does. . . Edited by Tell3131 2009-05-20 9:23 AM |

I think you are out of luck. It is pretty much standard policy to not offer transfers or sell registrations for Ironman branded events. Actually for any race that is not normal. That does stink that you cannot run. Hope you get better soon.
