Member 78 Hayden, ID | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Second time doing IMCDA (first was 2008). I too will be on a Cervelo P2C. Thinking about renting some Zipps from Race Day Wheels. I have been running on Ascic Gel Nimbus 10, but I am currently suffering from a relentless case of achillies tendonitis. I haven't looked far enough ahead to see my max totals yet, just trying to "live in the moment"! I had a fun time in 2008, and hope 2010 will be as much if not more. |

Regular 252 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread This will be my first IM. Right now i am trying to avoid the H1N1 that seems to be all around me. As for what i am training and riding for the IM QR Ultrafull 2007 Sepcialized Sequoia with clip on aero bars. Stock wheels with Continential 400 tires. I am having shoes problems right now. I had been running in Saucony Hurricanes but the new model hurts my toes. So i switched back to the Brooks Adrenaline for now. I will try the Hurricanes again around March in time for Cal70.3. Goal mileage is 10,000 yards swimming. 200-250 bike 40-50 run. Time goal anything before 17 hours. I am using the Ironfit 30 week plan. Day 1 is Dec 7th or 8th. |

Regular 79 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'll be wearing an Xterra wetsuit, riding a 2009 Cervelo P2, and running in some sort of Saucony's (although I'm tempted to try Newton's or Zoot's without socks). |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Made it through first 13.1 run with Zoots and no socks yesterday at a standalone half (Silver Strand in Coronado). Previous longest runs had been an Olympic tri and 10-mile easy training run. Did pick up a bit of a blister on big toe that would have been a big problem in a full. Will most likely stick with Asics (or maybe Newtons) and socks for the full. |

It's never to early to start to worry about things you cann't control. The lake is cold now but it's going to get much much colder. And maybe it might warm up by June. However, with the mass start and 2000+ people trying to swim over you chances are you will not even notice the water temp. |

Regular 119 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hi This too will be my first IM. I live in Spokane, WA so I will be able to ride the course when the weather gets better in the spring. However, I too was wondering how to prepare to train for the hills on my trainer. I will try a lower cadence. As far as shoes go that is an area I am struggling with. I have been running in Brooks and Asics for the past several years. I really liked the Asics 2120's but did not do well with the 2130's or 2140's. I have switched back to Brooks and they are okay. I too will be following the Be Iron Fit 30 week plan and training will start Dec. 1st. I don't have a time goal except to finish in under 17 hours Happy training! From several different "map my ride" post it is between 1350 and 1400 feet per loop. http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/id/coeur-d%26%23039%3balene/132475914

I live in Spokane, WA so I will be able to ride the course when the weather gets better in the spring. I am not surrendering to the trainer until spring. The outlook is for a moderate to strong El Nino pattern to continue through the winter and into the spring. This spells above normal temps, although along with it comes normal to above normal precipitation. My goal is to ride outside every chance I get. No rain (or snow) and above freezing temps and I will be outside. I also have a goal to ride the course once a month over the winter (weather permitting). |

I second the captain in that so much is going on you don't notice the temp--except that first time you try to breathe. |

Member 59 Houston | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I started training at the end of October. I plan on slowing down and taking it easy through the holidays but getting a coach starting in January and hitting it hard. I am riding an Orbea Ora and currently running in Asics Nimbus but have been wanting to try out some Newtons. I booked a house about 4 blocks from transition. Now I need to get some plane tickets and decide how long Im staying after the race. (for sure Thursday-Thursday but may come earlier and stay later) |

Regular 56 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hey Gang! 1st Ironman for me as well! My first triathlon of any kind was the Boise 70.3 last June (finish time was 5:25). I enjoyed it so much I followed it up by signing up for IMCDA. Perhaps it was the adrenaline talking. Nonetheless, I was able to get a few more olympic distances in during the summer followed by several half and full marathons (9 races in 2009). What a blast! To answer some of the post questions: Ride: 2009 Specialized Transition Expert (Wheelsets: old school Spinergy Rev X Clinchers and Easton Tempest Tubulars) Shoe: Brooks Adrenaline 9's Wetsuit: Zoot Goal Time: Just to finish and have fun! If I had any real guess I would like to think I can finish in the 11 hour range. The swim is my weakest area and the mass start at CDA has me nervous. I have not finished putting together my training plan just yet, but hope to start official training early December. Currently maintaining my base. Does anyone have any thoughts on a half ironman distance 3 weeks before IMCDA? Do you think the timing is to close? |

Member 59 Houston | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread UrsusAdiposimus - 2009-11-18 3:15 PM br /> Ahhhh I love my Ora - I'll be riding it as well, hopefully with a rented Zipp disc/808 combo. Question - does yours vibrate a lot when you re-enter the atmosphere? yeah I hate it when that happens!. I have found that a little duct tape helps out though. |

Does anyone have any thoughts on a half ironman distance 3 weeks before IMCDA? Do you think the timing is to close? I think it all depends on your training and how well you do your recovery after the 1/2. I'm doing a 1/2 weeks prior to CDA and already have my race plan and recovery planned out : Race my face off then hot tub then red wine. Make sure your training is up and you'll be fine. Last year I did a 1/2 3 weeks out then a Sprint 2 weeks from IM Canada. Good luck with the off season! |

Veteran 185 Spokane | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Haha - I bet she appreciated your posts! I like the race a bunch, hottub and wine plan - but I'll probably mix in an ice bath for a hot tub, just to be safe . Regardless, a glass of red is always necessary. Ok folks - the holidays are right in front of us, don't take too many days off or have too many extra pieces of pie (you can define "too many"). |

Regular 56 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Thanks for your feedback (your wife thanks you)! I have some friends that are more of the conservative type who would advise against it. However, as some would say "Go Big or Go Home"! The good news is I tend to recover fast and I think 3 weeks out may not be a bad thing. Also the benefits of getting the feel for race day in the water and working out on the bike is something you can't replace in regular training rides. I would also be curious to know if anyone else on the forum has done this and would give it a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down"? |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I was seriously considering Honu, but I think that might be too much travel - airfare to Hawaii is not cheap! I'm doing Oceanside and Boston, but I think it might be good to have a tune-up race three weeks out. We might just organize a sim here in San Diego with the Tri Club. |

Bothell, Washington | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Happy Holidays CDA Athletes! This will be my first Ironman. I dont have a time goal as of now but I will have them when it gets closer to the date. Reading these posts has been really helpful as my training starts soon. I have done Lake Stevens and the hilly bike ride was my favorite part but doing it twice will be interesting. I live close to Lake Stevens so I will have plenty of training time on the hills. My biggest concern is the swim. When I finish that, the fun will really get started! As for swimming, I have a sleeveless and full wetsuit. I always swim with my sleeveless. Is the full a given for Lake CdA and how cold the temps get? Ill be over there early in the week to get used to the lake but it would be nice to know what everybody thinks about a full vs sleeveless. Im riding the 2007 Scott Plasma Contessa. Her name is She-Ra. I havent decided on race wheels yet. Any suggestions? Im most likely running the Asics Nimbus. They seem to work best for me on the longer runs. Any suggestions on resources on info about whole foods as nutrition in an Ironman? I have read a lot and practiced a little. I could always use more info. Happy Thanksgiving, Jess |

I'm not planning to "leave it all out on the course" though. It will be more of a run/moderate effort. I'm not an expert, but I suspect that if you don't try to post a pb and lighten your taper (hydrate like never before, sleep like never before, really, really take it easy this time) a bit more in the two weeks leading up to CDA, you'll probably be fine. Just my $0.02. NLG |

I have done IMCDA 5 times in a sleeveless without any issues. I plan to race 2010 in a sleeveless as well. |
