MrsChach, You can do it! I am a 53 yo man that has never done Yoga and I could get through it. It is tough and I will never ever say "Its just Yoga" again. I thought it was some kind of medieval torture...LOL.

I would be up for a thread for P90x- I am back to tris in 2010 after a year off for injury and rehab- I own P90x but have never committed to it and would love to learn how to work it into tri-training-- when I bought it, it was May and just starting to get nice here in the mountains....so I didn't want to be indoors doing videos--  like I can now that it's dark and cold!

Should I start a P90x challenge thread? I don't know much about P90x but if others can lend support, I will start the thread up?!?

I'm totally in on a challenge thread. I'm not formally currently X'ing, but I'd love to hang around and offer support for folks in the throws of the X!

Mrschach - if a PM workout will work for you and it feels better, then definitely go for it!!!! If the AM works better logistically, you may just need longer to warm up and take things very shallow until you feel warm. It takes me a bit to get the kinks out myself. The series of sun salutations should really help to warm you up and get you ready for the rest of the workout.

Yeah that is what the Sun Salutations does for me...."Warm up my butt" that is a workout in and of itself...LOL. The first time I went through that I thought I was going to die...

I just did about half the yoga workout.  There is definitely room for improvement but I felt much better than I did the other morning!!  Tuesday is my day for that workout.  I think I will just get up and run in the morning since I will hopefully be in the habit of getting up.  Work is also going to get pretty busy for me the end of January.  I will have to just pick the best night to do the yoga workout.  I am following the classic plan for the first few weeks.  After that, I may switch to the doubles.  Without looking at the book, I think they are the same for the first few weeks.  Does it really make a difference if I do the yoga the same day I do one of the other workouts in the morning?

My .02 for the kettle.....

Maybe combining this with the Peachy challenge http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=191480&start=1
Do like a Peach90x or something.
This would allow easier tracking and weighting for the tri-days.

Put guidelines such as 'must do P90x minimum 3 days in the week', 'all days must be colored at completion'

I'm in either way, just throwing it out there.

Just finisher day 1 workout of the classic. Looking forward to the next 89 days. I also start marathon training in two weeks. The nutrition plan seems pretty good. I am following the portion one. I do feel a little hungry through out the day. I figure it is my body getting used to the less calories. Can't wait to see what the future holds.

First post on this thread.

I just ordered P90X! I'm an accountant and I'm entering my first busy season where I'll be working 60-70+ hours a week from mid January to April. Needless to say I'm not going to have time for much training. My plan is to follow the P90X lean program and supplement the lifting routines with what triathlon training I'm able to fit in. I'm hoping I'll be able to follow the P90X lifting/ab/plyo routines during the week with some short runs and trainer sessions mixed in. On the weekend I'll do longer runs (around 10 miles) and get in a 40 mile ride. My plan is to focus on a CLEAN diet and get what training I'm able to in. Once tax season is over I think I'll follow the full 90 day routine.

Anyways, my main reason for posting is to ask about resistance bands vs dumbbells. I could spend $800 on a rubber hex dumbbell set that ranges from 5lb-50lb. I have the money and could easily spend it without any hesitation (my wife is not so sure that is a good purchase right now). Is anybody here following the program with restance bands? If so, could you elaborate on how they're working for you? I'm sure I'll eventually get a full dumbbell set but right now since I've got a limited amount of time I'm thinking about just getting restance bands and giving it a go.

Thanks!

I have only used bands. I think they work fantastic. The only down side is if you like to KNOW what weight you are using instead of "I used the red one". I just picked up a 3 band system from Target for 20.00 and they work great (my old ones broke a couple days ago).

I currently use the bands because of space, cost, convenience. I like them allot and considered getting bowflex at one time, its just not a very good value. The Beachbody bands come in different resistance values, I have about six of them and think they are awesome, they allow resistance throught the full range of each exercise, something freeweights won't allow.

Abbie,

ARX can definitely stress both your lower back and hip flexors initially, until you build up your core strength. To help with the lower back issues, be sure to really think about your form and hold your entire "girdle" area tight, like you are protecting yourself from getting punched in the stomach, while keeping good posture (back straight, shoulders down and back, head in alignment with body). Also, protect your lower back with your hands - follow the woman .... I'm blanking on her name right now, but she typically has her hands on the floor next to her butt, or tucked under her butt (depending on the exercise) to protect her lower back. The combination of those things should help you feel this less in your lower back. Also, when you feel your form start to go, you are done - don't sweat out the last couple of reps if your back is starting to feel it.

You'll get strong quickly and will be following along with Adam in no time.

Stuart gave a great overview of the bands! I use them for some moves and really like them for what I use them for (I will alternate using bands for back work with doing pull-ups) - I bought a full set from Beachbody years ago and really like having them. That said, I've never done a full P90X rotation with them, so can't speak to how well they work for anything other than back work, but I have certainly heard from a great many people who have used bands exclusively and have liked the experience.

You can get the B-Lines via my Beachbody store, if you are interested:http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/BLINEBandKits?referringRepId=18189

Give it a few days and if you are feeling like you don't have enough energy to fuel your workouts (or the rest of your day), definitely tweak things a bit and add some extra calories. It's a fine line between eating enough and not too much - you have to figure out through some trial and error what works for you. Just be sure to add "clean" calories, of course!

Well I guess I'm going to join the fun.  Got my dvd's & some bands and I'm planning to start Monday.  Are most people following the nutrition plan too?  I know you'd get the best benefit from it, but I figure I should get fair results from just the exercise alone, given I eat fairly well to support tri training.

Today is 90!!!!!! Can't believe I'm done already. I am taking 2 weeks off from it and I have it built into my 1/2 IM training program so I start up again on the 15th. Really happy with the results and I can't wait to see what I can do during the next round.

Good luck to everyone who is starting this for the first time!!

Good Luck Rob.
P90x is fantastic. I am sure you'll find a few workouts you love, maybe even a couple that you love to hate.
