i'll be doing this one too, coming back after i stepped on something and cut my foot wide open coming out of the swim last year. my bike was pretty good, but my foot just wouldnt let me run. had the medics do what they could, but my "walk" took almost 3.5 hours. im up for a BT get together, just keep me in the loop

jjcnbg - 2010-02-06 6:52 PM Hello everybody,

Just signed up for the race.  I am currently registered to compete at IMWI in September and thought this would be a great  mid-season race for a tune-up.  In addition, I have a 5 year old that loves Disney so that didn't hurt in convincing my wife to let me shell out the cash.

I raced at IMFL 2009 and bought a new Cervelo P2 at the Expo.  IMFL 70.3 will be my first race with my new baby.  Can't wait to break it in.

Random question for all of you.  I am in the process of switching over to Newton running shoes.  I have heard that this course runs on grass and trails for a good portion of it.  Has anyone run this race in Newtons and if you did how was the traction on the grass and trails.  So far I have only used the Newtons on pavement.

Thanks for the feedback and I look forward to seeing all of you at "The place where dreams come true!"

I don't wear newtons, and have not yet done this course, but EVERYONE I have talked to said bring shoes that you are going to toss afterwards.

Yikes, definitely don't want to toss my $160 Newtons.  Maybe I should get a cheaper pair of racing flats for the race. Thanks for your comments.

jj, dont listen to all the hype about the shoes. yeah, they'll get dirty, yeah they'll be some sort of shade of brown, yeah you're legs will be covered in dirt and the same shade of brown as your shoes, but just wash them off as good as you can after the race and throw them in the wash when you get home and they'll be as good as new. i'll be racing in the same pair of brooks racers that I wore last year and they look as new as they did the day I brought them home. dont be worried about wearing a good pair of shoes, go with whatever will get you to the line the quickest. good luck.

Just registered- both the wife and I- so once my bursitis and IT band issues go away, I'll be ready to get some serious training in!  Can't wait to get to FL... a nice cool summer race will be a treat compared to the AZ heat!

Thanks so much for the advice Guppie about bike transport! I signed up for tribiketransport so I am glad I won't have to deal with it. I figure I can ride my mtn bike or borrow one until the race. I'm not too worried about being away from the bike that long!  I thought about checking it on the plan but it is the last thing I want to worry about.

Thanks again!

Hi all.

I've just been relocated to Guatemala until just about race time, and so am having to complete my training down here.  There's so much smog on the paved roads that my first bike and run down here made it feel like I'd just smoked a carton - decided better to make alternative plans.  I ended up buying a trainer and have started training at home where the air is cleaner.  I also found a running route up in the hills that is relatively smog-free.  The swim is a change for me, too - 85-89 degree water in the pools.

A few questions I have here based on Florida's course:

- will I need to over-train on a trainer to prep for the race, or does the fact that the course is relatively flat play into my preparations.

- all my runs feel like they include more vertical than horizontal.  Will training on rather large hills with little flat help or hurt me for a race on what looks to be a completely flat course?

- how warm is the water in Florida?

Thanks all - happy training.

Trainer rides are considered harder overall than outdoor rides - so no you will not need to overcompensate....just make sure you really push some of it and vary the pace....

and running hills will make the flats seem EASY!!!!

I got a new bike and its at the lbs and I need to get fitted , but till things are getting set-up and weather getting warmer, I have been on the gym bike and been cranking it out pretty hard.I also wear long sleeve  dri-fit shirts to make me sweet quicker and for my body to learn to handle the heat. I know its not the best way maybe biking in a sauna will help but I been noticing my Mph is going up and my watts are increasing too and I am feeling comfortable being hot too. FL 70. 3I am getting ready for ya. Now if I can only find a cheap room. mmm

If it is like past years, you are not able to swim in Bay Lake prior to the actual race.

Woohoo....36 degrees today I ran outside

One more week of training and I have a 'rest week'.  Less training=less eating  Lucky's Lake was the place. I think they have some kind of organized OWS but I didn't do it last year.

Just 11 weeks left until Florida!  How is everyone's training going?  Besides needing to put WAY more time in on the bike, I feel like I'm right where I need to be.  Looking forward to May 16!

Hello all.  Trying to do the best outdoor training possible.  Southern Indiana has had the coldest winter in the past few years and it has created some limitations.  Running in 20 to 30 degrees and bike rides are just nutz...  Indoor pool swims have actually been good with 2000m in under 45min.  I've been doing rides on my rollers and adding some P90X training; yoga has just done amazing things for my legs.
March starts some running events that I'm looking forward to.  I'll be doing a 13.1 in mid April to jump start my running a month before the event.  I've been able to drop 12lbs since last year and the idea of a new Cervelo S1 all geared up for aero is exciting.
Hope the next weeks to come are good ones for everyone's training.
Be your best self

Hi all.... my training is mostly going well - behind on running (always seems to be the case....maybe that is why I am so slow doh).  Life has its way of intervening but not enough to derail me....

this race starts my season so I feel good.....

Can't belive this race is only a few months away.  Doesn't help being sidelined the last few weeks with strep throat.  Guess I will have to turn my training up a notch.

Training going ok overall for this newbie.  I'm completing my "swim" focus week, going into my "run" focus next week.  The weather has been cold here for Virginia, but should get nice out soon and I'll be able to bike outside for the first time.  I've got a reverse tri workout at the gym tonight, that should give me a true taste of where my training is.

Keep it going everyone!

Can anyone tell me how the swim starts?  It says it's a wave start.  So if you are in an age group, does the entire age group start at once (there were 341 in AG M40-44 last year)?

Any tips on FLA 70.3 swim starts you can share with a newby?  This will be my first HIM.  Thanks.

Good question- I'm curious as well about the start.

And in other news, I can run again. After being unable to go 1/2 mile without the pain getting horrible, and a few trips to a few different doctors, a tightly wound rear end seems to have been the culprit.  Got a little treatment yesterday and went a few miles pain free!  With 10 weeks to go and unable to run, I was getting a litttle nervous to say the least...  Looks like I'll be racing instead of just tagging along!
