Who couldn't use the increase in bike power and fitness? I'm in for the HR/RPE plan, a computrainer still costs to much as I'm recovering from the bike expense.

davidson3 - 2009-10-20 3:25 AM I am in for HR/RPE!

Now what does it mean to be in?  Will you PM us the workouts for the week? Do we check a specific post weekly?

It means you commit yourself to do doing the workouts.  Jorge posts the workouts in his blog a week at a time.   But whether or not you do them is on you!

Thanks!  That clears it up.

great stuff Jorge!
I am going to start your plan with 1 week delay since I will be running NYC marathon on the 1st. I get 1 week off and on the 9th I start it.
I have Powertap and for sure I am going to add the 4th long ride.
I am in!
I have race A end of May as Half Ironman and then another Race A, Ironman end of July.
It fits perfectly in my scheduling

TrkHilo2k - 2009-10-20 9:35 PM One more for the group, doing it the HR/RPE way.

Now, can anyone point me towards something like this for RUNNING?
I need that too.

Thx in advance!

Definitely best discussed in another thread, because that's a big subject.  I'll simply say that while you can hammer yourself into fitness on the bike with little risk of injury, the same prescription would make you faster on the run but will almost certainly result in a running injury.  As the results of those who have done Jorge's program last year demonstrate, you can make big improvements on 3-4 rides a week.  In running, however, there is no shortcut to mileage.

I'm in the midst of a run-focused plan while I start Jorge's program (I believe he said he was as well a few pages back).  What that means for me is that I'll be doing his 3 prescribed rides per week but running 8 or more times per week.  My 3 rides are killer... most of my 8 runs feel like nothing they are done at such an easy pace... but I'll be logging between 40 and 60 miles running.

I read most thread, and a question that I didn't see answered . . .

I bought a CT a month or so ago and so am relatively new with using it.  It is mentioned in this thread about using the CT, but using it in erg mode.  Is there somewhere I can go to to understand this better and how to do this program with the CT?

Thanks

Erg files are a feature of the Coaching Software (CS) that comes with the computrainer. They refer to it near the bottom of this page: http://www.racermateinc.com/coaching.asp and the CS manual that came with your ct describes it further. I think there were some example files in the software too, but I've been editing and creating more of my own copies for so long now I've forgotten where the first one came from. I usually open and run the erg files from the graph mode shown on that link and review the saved sessions in that mode too.

The spreadsheet available on this website works great for generating erg files for the Computrainer using Excel.

http://home.comcast.net/~ergbuilder/erg%20builder.html

I plan to modify it each week based on the training plan and generate an erg file.  It's not hard to do.

I found your plan last year many weeks behind the group but followed it most of the time (had to stop due to HIM training kicking up). I plan to start on day 1 this year and will do the HRM version. It was awesome weekly torture. I had a love/hate relationship with my early-morning sweat-fests! Thanks for offering this!!

I'm in for HR/RPE

Can these workouts be worked in to the winter maintenance plans?  I already have one of the plans loaded into my log to begin my training Monday, but I NEED to improve my cycling this winter.

Umm..ok, I am in but what does that mean???  Anyone can answer this that has done it before.  I am going to get a note from Jorge?  I am new to tri's this year and I have a Garmin305 with cadence monitor and a HR monitor.  Do I need a Power Meter?  Would it help that much?

Feel free to PM me as I monitor this site everyday, , at work...shhhhhh.  I REALLY want to do this but I am somewhat anal about being prepared.  I want to know what I need and have it ready 3 days before hand....
