Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tnickerson - 2009-11-16 1:09 AM I've been really struggling with getting my trainer workouts in. Its a mental thing with me. I've been dreading going down in the basement to get them done. Yesterday, I realized that I need to change my thinking and my goal became to find what I can do to get excited about my trainer rides. It changed my entire mindframe and when I got on the trainer, it wasn't with dread, but because I really wanted to. This quote came this morning through Runnersworld.com and it is spot on: "The more I thought about what I get to do, the less I realized I had to do. It was just a shift, just a new perspective, just a new and more grateful method for labeling the things in my life. Think about it—if you stopped yourself every single time you were about to say, "I have to" and changed it to "I get to," it might change your entire experience." Good luck this week everyone! This was a great quote and something we (meaning me) need to be mindful of. I don't think I could get on the trainer and just go. I guess there are those that can do it, but not me, at least not yet. So, I find that if I do a Spinervals DVD or am following a specific interval type of workout, that makes the thing more bearable. Good luck with the trainer and we all feel your pain, both mentally and physically (I find the trainer to be more physically painful than just riding my bike outside). |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got another 45 minutes on the trainer tonight. Had Dallas reruns to watch tonight! Also ran a mile... missed a run yesterday and today wasn't really a run day. But I decided I'm going to try to force myself to run a mile on my bike days this week, even if it's slow, just to make up some time. I can do anything for 10 minutes, right? |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got my swim in today and plan a run in the morning. It will be a little tight to fit it in before work, but at least it will be daylight instead of dark. |

I like to win along with everyone else, but we all need to focus on fitness. Am I being kind to me? Am I honoring my body with the work and progress it deserves? Let's step beyond the monthly goals and focus on our own needs. BE GOOD TO YOURSELVES! (me included) YOU CAN DO IT! It is being kind to myself to do the workouts I planned and getting myself into the best and fittest shape possible. I don't do myself any favors when I allow myself to wimp out on scheduled workouts - barring injury, life, etc. I agree 100%! We set the monthly goals because we KNOW that it is what is good for us. If we don't do it now it won't get any easier tomorrow. We want to do it (that is why we set the goals for ourselves)! We CAN do it (all of our goals are attainable we just need to push the excuses away)! I think I can...I think I can... Now if I don't put up a run or trainer ride tomorrow...get out that taser and give me a jolt! ![]() |

Trainer stuff isn't my favorite, but it helps a lot if I put on music for the hardest intervals or a TV show for the easier spinning. Any you doing anything to entertain yourself while on it? Maybe I can help. You can either train this week, or be tasered next week. Here. I'll even let you pick the taser: ![]() No purple one? That's total B.S. ![]() |

Any you doing anything to entertain yourself while on it? Spinervals, The Sufferfest, The Biggest Loser (If they can do what the trainers put them through, you can ride the trainer for an hour, c'mon), whatever Studio Ghibli movie I put on for my son to watch. Studio Ghibli is great because I get so distracted trying to understand the dialog that I forget I'm doing something mind numbing. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Triathlynne - 2009-11-17 12:52 PM I have no motivation today Yeah, yesterday and today have been tough for me too. I think it is the rainy weather and being really tired from busy days at work. However, yesterday I swam for about 20 minutes and felt much better. This morning I ran a couple of miles and it even quite raining while I was out. These challenges really help me to not give in to the "what's it matter if I skip" mindset. So now I am home and tired, but I think I will put on some lively music and ride the stationary bike for 15 minutes before I start dinner! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just got this iTrain motivational training. I had tried it a few months ago and liked it and this week I received an email special they were having. They help in the motivation department once you are on the trainer. I also do DVD spinnervals and the like and watch BL or other low concentration TV programs. I have a laptop with external speakers in front of the trainer and have a Slingbox hooked up to my Tivo so I can watch anything really but it's awkward to change channels, fast forward etc while on the trainer. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will either do this spin-ups workout that my coach gives me (think intervals) or a Spinervals DVD (think intervals again). I haven't tried just spinning along to TV, primarily because I am not sure about it. If I am following a plan and that plan doesn't call for a biking, shouldn't I be giving my legs a rest? On the other hand, if all I am doing is lying around, wouldn't I be better off just getting in some easy spinning? I don't know the answer and so I take the route of not being an my pita (literally - when does it stop hurting?) bike. Any thoughts on the subject? Lately the weather has been nice and my schedule has worked out so that I haven't had to be on the trainer. I've gotten to ride outside. Gotta love Southern California! |

Have my bodypump class tonight (Which I loooooooooooooooove!!!)
Then tomorrow I have a 9 mile run in the rain with my dog. Excellent!
How's everyone doing? |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Doing pretty good. Unmotivated this morning in the wind and rain, but I did get out and jog just over 3 miles. Still on track for my goals! I did not wear a cap today, just a headband for my ears. The rain sure stung my eyes. Would a ball cap stay on well enough in the wind? .........not wind created by how fast I run ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hope the captain is OK too! Wondering where she went to... I won't be in town (nor posting here) next week but I'm going to try and fit in the runs while I'm away. I should be able to fit in one-two more trainer rides before I go and should just be able to squeak in what ever is left over when I'm back. Have a good week everyone! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Is it too early to start decorating for Xmas? Been feeling low lately and figured maybe putting up lights might brighten my mood up, but I fear backlash seeing as it's not even Thanksgiving yet.
It is also it down outside. I mean like building an ark type of rain. I know I live in the Pacific Northwest but this is something else! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Triath- I say go for whatever cheers you up and if decorating now is it... then go for it. There's something "blah" in the air lately you're not the only one. Edited by IdealMuse 2009-11-20 1:29 PM |

People took down their Halloween decorations, and immediately put up their Xmas ones. Oh, and it doesn't rain here a whole lot, either. ![]() |

I admire all of you for getting out there in t he rain. I wish it would rain here. Then I would have a better excuse why I am down one day on my running. |
