Master 1641 Seattle, California | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Bad news ... My calf decided today was the day to snap. So frustrating because I've been doing everything possible to increase volume slowly and promote active recovery. A few years ago I had a severe muscle tear in my left calf and after you've had it once scar tissue forms and it can go again if you push things. Well it went on my run today but sh*t happens. I will re focus and approach recovery to this injury with the same dedication that I give to my training. I will be taking a week off and x-training with cycling and then after a week off I will start back at it with some short run / walks. Hopefully I will be back to normal volume in about 2 - 3 weeks. Unfortunately that means I wont make my volume for this month. I'm going to see how things feel next week and revise my goal downward to something that is more reasonable given this. Injuries happen and I'm frustrated as can be, but no time to dwell on it. Time to recover, move on and get back to running as soon as it is safe again. |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Please have the spreadsheet updated with your progress by tomorrow morning. I'll give everyone the Current Team Standings tomorrow. Note: If you are ill/injured during the month, you have several options: 1) You may withdraw from the challenge. If this is the case, please let me know. (Or, you can tell your team captain, and they can let me know.) 2) You may revise your goal as follows: 30 days - "your missed days" = "days of participation" Original goal x "days of participation" / 30 = Revised goal For example: If you planned on doing 100 miles, but missed 5 days due to illness, you would recalculate your goal like this: 30 days - "5 missed days" = "25 days of participation" 100 miles x "25 days of participation" / 30 = 83 miles revised goal 3) In some cases, such as injuries, you may need to recover and can't resume your previous workout volume. If that's the case, tell your team captain (or me), and revise your goal as you see fit. If you have questions, feel free to ask me (or your team captain). |

Yes, it's a great hurt. Temps in the upper 50s with some sun...it was a great run. Won't see that again for several months now. |

Master 2055 Santa Clarita | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Hi Team I will be running a half marathon tomorrow . The "plan" is to run a conservative start and then open it up . Our running club will have a 9 min /mile pace group so i will start and run with them for support and motivation and also help not leave too quickly . I would like to finish under two hours but have not been running fast recently so I am expecting a slower time. Conditions should be ideal with very dry weather and low 50F temps in the morning . Spent some time today volunteering at the expo . Always fun to see all the runners before the race all fresh and excited about the event . Quite a different site from a finish line. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Dang sorry to hear about the calf, that sooo sucks. So many elements to getting at all close to your potential with timing of training, consistency, intensity and then dumb luck or injury. Was a guy going to Boise 70.3 this year, kicked the couch leg and broke his toe 4 days before the race. I hope you heal up quickly and completely. |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Good luck Paul! Checked out the coarse and elevation profile, looks like you will have a good time. "The "plan" is to run a conservative start and then open it up." This strategy got me thinking in regards to marathon and ultra distance running. Is there a popular strategy or is it highly subjective (steady-pace for duration, start fast and slow, start slow and accelerate, etc)? Waht has would best for you guys in the past? Thanks. Oh, btw, good morning and here's to another good week! |

Expert 1007 Hattiesburg, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Good Morning Teammates! Probably nothing for me today. I have been pushing the training some what and need to make sure I don't get overworked and ill. So, maybe some core work later but that's it. Also I have a sore back from sleeping funny last night, ouch, so that needs to subside some first. Everyone have a wonderful Sunday! |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Came across this in another thread.... I thought you might find it interesting since most of us our training for running events-goals. The article has to do with the debate over heel versus mid-foot strike. Little bit of a long read, but enlightning: http://www.sportsscientists.com/search/label/running%20shoes |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge 18 miles for me today with half of it on trails, so a touch slower than planned. I was bored so here are the times for each mile, I marked hills of more than a half mile in length (including that 3 mile hill): 8:07, 7:48, 8:03, 8:08, 8:36, 8:54 (hill), 8:19, 8:05, 8:52, (hill) 8:34, 9:03 (hill), 10:25 (big hill), 9:35 (hill), 8:23, 8:37, 8:39, 9:19 (hill), 8:33 Cold water bath has me feeling closer to human. Adding trail run 2nd half of long run may have not been the best call, but oh well have a trail race in 2 weeks so. I had 3 big downhills to work those thighs. That puts me at 58 miles for the month. I put my info in the spreadsheet, but I don't think it counted in our team totals. |

Veteran 294 Germantown, WI | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Of course the Gabbling Gobblers are going to be in first in post count....THEY'RE GABBLING GOBBLERS! Great job team on being in first so far. Wish I could count all the walking at the zoo, but I said running miles so...settling for strength training session. My wife has now joined me in those too! She's already faster than me and that will only make her faster, but I like that she does it with me. Great job on the run Baowolf. |
