Check out enduranceconcepts.com for their planned swim/run on Sunday the 22nd from the boathouse at 7:30 am. Coach Jim Christian may be coordinating that as he is out of Augusta. Should be well run if its done like last year.

FWIW me and tri-ghost and perhaps some others are only doing the swim. Then we are going off to do a drop bike ride@high18s-19mph of the Augusta bike course TWICE stopping at the boathouse after the first loop to refill bottles etc. Anyone who thinks they can hang is more than welcome.

@phatknot, I'm going to be in town this weekend too and would love to do the swim and ride the first loop of the bike course with you guys.  Do I need to "sign up" with enduranceconcepts or just show up?  I've sent them an email, but nothing back yet.

@Boxer, I got your PM a while back about riding this weekend, still planning on being there, I guess 7:30 am at the boat dock?

For anyone looking for a wetsuit, Xterra is offering their Vortex 3 sleeveless (usually $300) for $149 with free shipping.

Use the coupon code "SUMMER" at checkout. Just picked one up for my wife for the race.

Heads up...high E.coli levels in the river may prevent us from Swimming Sunday morning. Stay tuned for details.

E-Dub, I'll be there for sure, but the E.coli high levels is terrible news!!! What if this is the case on September 26????? That would be a disaster!! I don't have that many opportunities to go practice on the river........ that's really dissapointing but thanks A LOT run4yrlif for the heads up. It would be even worst not to know and end up sick a few weeks before the race!!! Where can you check and monitor the status of the water quality????  Anyway, I'll show up and will join the ride no matter what, hoping to complete both loops. See you at the boathouse @ 7:30

Are you going to be wearing a wet suit this weekend? Staying at the marriott. Is it ok to leave bike at the hotel and be able to catch up with you all for the ride?
Thanks

Ok so I got a reply from James Rudd, Owner of Endurance concepts that says:

Thank you for contacting us regarding this event.  Unfortunately, we're unable to host the event due to water quality concerns.  For the sake of the race next month, we hope they find the source soon.  If we can reschedule this preview event, we will do so.

Sorry if this has muddied up your plans for the weekend but we don't want anyone getting sick!  http://chronicle.augusta.com/news/metro/2010-08-16/bacteria-level-river-spurs-probe?v=1282020377

So, looks like the swim is off for the 22nd, still want to bike the course as FL is flat as a pancake and I want to get an idea of the hills/shift points, etc.

I don't have a room yet, but we're planning on coming up Saturday afternoon, checking out the layout, dinner, pool with the kids, etc.

Sunday then, I guess will just be the bike course and maybe I'll run/walk one loop of the run course just to get familiar with the turns, landmarks, etc.

Now that the swim is off, someone want to definitively state where and what time to meet for the ride?

They had the exact same issues last year even closer to race date. It makes you wonder how often this happens. Last years was bad enough it hit the newspapers.

I called the H2o dept. yesterday 706-312-4160 (ask for Tom, nice guy, will give updates)
He said they found the leak, just cant find the source. Said to call back in a week for updates.
Levels are only high around underwatrer drain, NOT in river channel.

Does anyone know what specifically will be offered at the water stations for this race?  Still testing out my nutrition plan and I want to make sure I can handle what is there already...just in case.  My plan is to have what I need on my bike or race belt.

Thanks, Scott.  I found the information (page 7 or 8).  It is a little frustrating that the race website doesn't include this information.  Guess I'll plan to skip anything but water at the aid stations and bring what works for me in training.

I asked what sport drink would be available and this is the WTC official reply:
"Gatorade orange will be available on the bike, and Gatorade lemon-lime will be offered on the run. Water will be available throughout the course."

I did IMLP last month and they had the new Ironman performance drink everywhere, no gatorade anywhere.  I used a fuel belt for my own nutrition and drank the water they had.

There is normally people riding every Saturday and Sunday.  Most of the time there is a swim that gets started around 6:45ish and riding starts around 7:30 AM.  I'll be there Saturday morning to hopefully swim but will ride for sure.  I'm not sure I will ride the course but I plan to do 65 - 70 at 18 - 18.5 pace.

Rode the race course last Sunday. E-Dub showed up, that was great!
What an awesome course!!! Beautiful farm country, hardly any traffic, and the hills are not bad at all (that's from some one that NEVER gets a hill on training) nice and steady gradients but never too steep. Downhills are a trip!!!
Started at 8:00 AM from transition area, which by the way, looks awefully small for 3500 athletes!
