Geez, I take a few days to drive accross the country and the group has moved,,,,,!!!  Thanks Rob and John for keeping me up to speed on the move.  Of course I'm still in, if the group will keep me around. Going on 4 years with this group!   Will post a full bio later, I'm in the middle of a heated chess match with my nephew.  Bad enough this is the one that kicks my butt running, now he is out smarting me!   Ugh!!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Samantha (sdalessio)
STORY:
Did my first triathlon 4 yrs. ago to fullfill a new year's resolution.  I was hooked by the time I crossed the finish line.  Since then I have completed 3 HIMs, 2 marathons and a ton of running race and sprint/olympic tris and become an endurance sport junkie.

FAMILY STATUS:
Married (Tony) 16 years, 2 kids (Drew and Gabriella), and 2 cats

CURRENT TRAINING: Focusing on my running and trying to get fast enough for Boston although that plan may be blown to bits with the big annoucement in Jan. ERRRRRR!!!!!!!

THIS YEAR'S RACES: 2 HIMs which were my A races.  Great race early April at Lone Star HIM and horribly race in Sept at Patriots HIM.  Some other fun races sprinkled in and set a 5k and 1/2M PR.

2011 RACES:  Starting the year off right and fastJan. 8-9 Disney Goofy Challenge, Mar. Shamrock Marathon and then some other tris on the calendar.  Main focus will probably be short course distances but who knows, I have the NC Triple T in the back of my mind.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE: Not sure except I'm pretty active on the group except when I get super busy b/t home, family, work and training then I get a little nuts!  I read a lot about nutrition so I may be able to shed some light there.

Ummmmmm yeah... can we talk about that here? What is UP?! How do you think they will change Q times? Are there any age groups that are overly populated? I'm really curious what will happen. The article Suzy posted on FB (was it an editorial? I don't remember?) talked about them limiting the charity/non-Q runners before they go adjusting Q times. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Turning 45 is looking better and better...

What I saw was a PR from the Boston Assn.  Basically 3 things: 1) 0-10min decrease in all AG qualifying times.  So some groups no change and up to 10min for others.  I have a feeling the women 40 and under are going to get screwed.  2) up to 3000 (I think) more spots open 3) shorter qualifying period - one year instead of 18 months.  Basically having the period good for one Boston not two.  Oh well - it is what it is and we will have to wait and see in Jan.

i have a feeling women under under forty are going to have their times adjusted to where the BAA thinks they should be based on the incredible advances this demographic has made in this arena over the past 15 years.

and of course some ignorant fool could argue men got screwed in 72'.

edit.  yeah i agree linda, if they said your time was good i'd hope they honor it.

Damn Tony logging me out ... as I was trying to say

Touchee - that is the most politically correct way of stating that fact.  Like I said, it is what it is.  If it goes down, I'll just have to get my fat a&s moving faster!!!!!!!!!

did you just call me politically correct?

i know what it means to you and how hard you are working to get there.  you will get wherever the time may be. besides, a 3:45  pffffft.     3:20.

SSMinnow - 2010-12-24 11:36 AM MERRY CHRISTMAS PEEPS!!! I hope you all have a great time with friends and family this weekend.

Linda, I really wouldn't get too knotted up.  You'll be grandfathered in since you qualified.  Same could be said for Chet if he was around to hear it!  I disagree with Fatty, I think the women's entire qualifying time could change.  It is pretty easy for a 45+ woman to qualify....take it from someone who knows.

Spanky, I know of a really beautiful, really expensive tri bike that pretty much has been sitting around.  It's custom and it's small!  Does anyone think it would fit him?

Fatty or Trevor, I think you should volunteer to do the list Glenn requested.  You both sling the most amount of crap in the group.  Jeremy did it last time, but he's MIA.

what are you disagreeing with there slick?  that was my point.

i'm with trev... no clue.  andy?

Hey Brent....I think you might have a little more to offer....bet your mental training is top notch.  That is a big part of triathlon and often a missing link for many.   Hopefully you can share some of those "secrets" with us.

Suzy,
Read "With Winning in Mind"  by Lanny Bassham.  All about the mental game... short read only about 120 pages.  Lots of good mental exercises and training.

Try not to narrow the bike down yet.  Get to a shop and check out several brands and see what fits.  Find a shop who knows how to fit and tell them your budget and they can help get you into something that is right for you.  You don't want to spend a bunch of money to get a bike that doesn't fit and is uncomfortable.  Would make for a long run!!

Thanks, I plan on making my purchase the 1st week of march. The weather should be better around here so I can actually ride outside, for now my training will be on a spin bike indoors

See if you can find some place with an "Exit" or "Fit" bike.

It kinds of looks like a spin bike with all  adjustable parts so they can get you in the right position then give you a set of measurements.  From there you can figure out which bike would be the best fit.

Fatty--you said you thought women under 40 were going to have their times I changed.  I think ALL women's times will change, not just the youngsters.  Make sense?  Too much eggnog in your beer?  Oh, I do like the new nickname.  So much better than what I'm usually called.

Brent--thanks for the recommendation on the book. It looks interesting. I've read a couple very good sports specific mental training books, but was hoping maybe there was some Military "how to deal better with pain" mental training you could share.

Can someone come over to our house and remove the baskets we've been receiving???  We're up to 9 and I really don't know where to go with the Bacco's chocolate, the chocolate covered cherries, the fancy cheese/caviars, the cookies and a host of other things....planning on keeping the wine though

I also have a military background. (air force some time ago) and the only mental toughness I heard in boot camp was HTFU or wash out.
