Look me up if you ever travel to the home of Armor and Cavalry. I'm an Army JAG prosecutor at Ft. Knox. It's an interesting job but it's awfully time consuming.

I am a Bradley Fighting Vehicle Instructor with BAE Systems. I train bradley crews how to destroy the enemy! Very exciting job. Some travel required inside US but home most of time. Takes a little over 10 min to get on post (Ft Hood Texas). TIme to train and be with kids etc. Easy job. It is what I did in army.

I have been with the U. S. Coast Guard for over 26 and a half years now.  Only planned to stay for four, but had too much fun!  Currently in a policy job related to the Global Positioning System.  Rotating between Search & Rescue and Law Enforcement assignments and desk-driving staff jobs.  My last operational assignment was in Hawaii, where this whole triathlon obsession started.

By the way, that's me on the left.  The gal on the right was the Commanding Officer of the cutter this picture was taken on - the Coast Guard Cutter Kiska.  One of the finest Patrol Boat Captains I have had the pleasure to work with, and a superb leader.  She's in graduate school in Boston, MA now.

think she'll let me marry her so i can get my green card and prevent future bike disasters? she is cute! shame i haven't got sea legs because i'd go join the coastguard otherwise! lol.

Believe it or not, I never watched a whole episode. But, from what I've seen I'm envious. It looks a lot more fun than real life.

Yowza...lots of responses to this thread and what a motley crew it is.

I would fall into the government workers category- 13 years in/ 13 to go.  I'm a unit supervisor working with delinquent youth and their families in a treatment/community setting.    Proud to say that our state has earned  the title "Model for the Nation" in our treatment modality.    Also finishing up my masters in criminal justice with the goal of teaching college part time someday.

I am also a wife, mother of a 2 year old, caretaker to my 83 year old mother in law who lives with us, a daughter and a sister and the owner of a 4000 sq. foot house........all  of which take time.  Luckily my husband is a cyclist and so he understands & supportive of this endeavor.

At this point, I aspire to finish my first triathlon- period.  The only way I would finish in the top 7% is if I was the only one racing.

I like this thread--fascinating stuff.

I've worked for state government environmental departments for six years, with stints for international development organizations thrown in for good meature. Mostly public education, writing and policy wonk work related to water quality and coastal management, with some analysis, depending on my boss.

As of Monday, I will be in the non-profit sector, where I will be the state planning director for an environmental non-profit focused on coastal issues.

My BA is in English Lit and Education and my masters is in marine policy and coastal management.

I also have a pre-school age son, so training time is at a premium. I coordinate gym time with my friends so our kids can play at the gym childcare area, and I train at lunchtime on occasion. Also, my training friends here almost all have kids, and arrange a sitter for group rides--I just have to get faster so I can keep up with them. I completed two sprints last year, and I'm looking to race in three sprints and one Olympic this year. Did my first half marathon last month. It's possible, definitely--you just need to plan a little more than many people.

Physical Therapist and rehab director for a 110-bed nursing home in New Orleans.   Usually out of there by 3:00, so training's not too much of an issue most days.

I am a part time middle school/high school band director. I also coach girls basketball for the High School. I go into work at noon, and am done by 3. It is a great job! I teach for a private school, so the pay isn't the best, but it is enough. It is great for training, because I have to get up to get the kids to school by 8 and then I have a few hrs to work out, get ready and be back at school to teach. I get lots of time off too!

I'm a superhero.  And I'm watching you.

I thought you looked familiar and I'm glad you liked my tuxedo.  I know the jacket's a little big but the cape is hard to conceal.

Senior Project Manager for a large medical school.  I over see the physical operation of 8 research facilities, as well as new construction, capital equipment purchasing and installation, security and manage our receiving dock. I have been promoted above my education, so I am back in school part time in the evenings.

I am in the 4:30 club for the morning workout and usually manage a swim at lunch.  My boss also swims so we schedule the swim like a meeting and try not to miss due to work schedules.  Weekends are split with one day for me and training, the other day for hubby and fishing, or whatever else he might want to do.  My hubby is very supportive of my tri efforts and works hard to keep me balanced and focused.

Evenings are pretty much family time or studying.

I'm a Father of 2 (about to become 3), high school volleyball coach, and general surgeon. Early mornings are the ONLY time for me. I'm a nubie...maybe I'll find out I'll have to limit my number if tris per year because of my schedule. There's only one way we'll know!!

Public School Helpdesk. I work the second shift so 8:30-5:00pm. Since I drop the kids at daycare in the morning it makes getting out difficult before work. Now that we have Sprung Forward, hopefully there will be more daylight for afterwork training.

What are you talking about? I'm planning on using my howitzers for GOOD, not EVIL! Yeah, good, that's the ticket, he'll believe that . . . oh crap did I say that out loud?

I think I'm Batman when I wear my trisuit and fuel belt. Does that count as a superhero costume?

Sorry, I meant to include this quote from 'ride like u stole it' on page 1 in between my response to you and my response to him.

Supervillian.

Actually, my tax return says I'm in the Import/Export business (he, he). You'd think that having the various henchmen, cronies, minions, lackeys, and toadies would make things easier and give me more time to train, but you simply would not believe the ammount of back-stabbing (literally), gossip, petty squabbles and incompetence that I have to manage. It takes a toll. Just when you think you have your latest plan all together....along comes some doofus hero-type in a tuxedo and  who do you think has to come up with a way to dispose of the body.......that's right....yours truly. For the ammount of money and intimidation that I have to lay out to get the help I have you'd think that they could figure that kind of thing out on their own.....(sigh)

Oh well, life goes on. There are always new plans to be devised and evil to do.  A word to the wise though buy lots of salt (wink)

And as far as the trisuit thing goes, who doesn't feel like a superhero in one?  Imagine how great the real thing is.  That's the real reason we do this gig.  We just love how we look/feel in a costume.  Superman has such an obsession sometimes he wears a tummy wrap under his costume if he's had a big meal!  And when Batman is wearing his big cape that wraps all the way around him, you can bet he's retaining water.  Wonder Woman always looks great, Amazonian blood is better than steroids or HGH.

Sorry for the hijack, but this thread is really long and my attention wanders after a while.
