Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone have any big plans for this weekend? I plan on doing two longish runs, hopefully a two hour one day and a 2 1/2 - 3 hour the next. (Training for a 50 miler is crazy) Still trying to decide routes and times. I hate to say this but I have no discipline as far as following a plan. I just get out there and make it up based on my mood and the weather. Still trying to decide if I'm going to trail run, road run or kinda trail run (we have a gravel based trail that I don't consider a real trail) Will probably do a trail one of the days and then whatever suits my fancy the next. |

I don't know that it qualifies as a "big" plan, but I'm heading out for a 10-12 mile run after which I will hit the pool for about an hour. On Sunday I'll probably run 4-6 miles.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() suzimmer - 2012-01-06 10:13 AM Steph, Wow, you are my hero! You made the SMART decision. Sometimes you have to sacrifice now, for the short term, to see the benefit for the the long term. I can say that to others, but acting on it myself...well I'm still working on that. One day I want to run the Disney Marathon, or any Disney race for that matter. They have the best "bling". Susie Thanks, I think I got more kudos for these decisions than I did for my first Tri! kidding... it's tough to bail. I really hate it, but I am so relieved already. I'm going to try some Angi style mood planning. Just getting out the door and having fun with it. Bling... yes, my husband will come home with a Donald, a Micky, and a goofy medal! SWEET. I bought us a new 'bling board' because the old one is full. It's one of those things you buy for tools, ha ha ha. There are a lot of Disney races from which to choose but I think I'll try for this goofy thing next year. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() TeeMoe - 2012-01-06 8:38 PM I started the master cleanse fast on Jan. 3, so I'm on day 4 and feeling very good today (first few days had a headache and felt listless). Feel like I can start spinning class next week if my energy level keeps up. Will postpone running another week; still dealing with plantar fasciitis pain that flared up this fall. It's much better than it was a month ago, but I'm afraid to start pounding on it with any high-impact exercise. Thanks for the shoe recommendation, Steph. You've got me looking into minimalist running as maybe a solution to my heel problem. It must feel great to cleanse. When I had my PF problem...same foot, under the ball of the foot, I was told to get one of those hot/cold packs (walgreens) that you can heat or freeze... I heated it and stood on it for a minute or two and THEN put the tennis ball under the foot for a light stretch...AND when I finished running I would foam roll my calves and use "The Stick" on the outside lower leg. It worked. Yes, my living room looks like the Physical Therapy office. ![]() Are you doing any swimming? |

When I did my 1st one, I didn't postpone and aggravated an injury. You did the smart thing. Good for you! Suz - the Disney bling IS awesome. I have 6 or 7 medals, several pounds in weight. I'd like to get one from each race. THANKS ICE... super trainer hero... Ecpasos and Suz... I can see it now, E does the Princess Half Weekend, and he borrows Susie's tiara.... |

The first class is your threshold test. Ride 20 min as hard as you can. Rest 10, then ride 20 hard again. UG. |

New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() I'll have to borrow the stick Santa gave my cross country-running son for Christmas. Been using the tennis ball and icing here and there, which does help. I should use the foam roller more than I do, just in general. Will be going for a swim this afternoon--I'm really looking forward to getting back in the pool (it's been months since I swam laps). Have a great weekend. |

New user![]() | ![]() I'm really feeling like a beginner here. P90x2, 50 mile run, running for 2 hours then swimming for one, YIKES! I've haven't done a Tri yet, but am signed up for a Sprint in June. For my running days I'm on the treadmill and try to do 40-45 min. Run till I can't then walk till I can again. Right now that is at about 2 min run (5mph) and walk 3 min (3.5 mph), repeat for 20 min and I also do the "rolling hills" program for 20 min, thinking that will work out different parts of my legs that will benefit me. I'm swimming 30 lengths of the pool and trying to increase my time. I'm finding I'm huffing and puffing a little less between when I stop, so I can start swimming quicker. Usually 4 lengths at a time.. rest.. repeat. I signed up for swim class at the local my local rec center so hoping to learn a couple more strokes so I can get through my sprint. Today I did my bike, almost 8 miles in 30 minutes, but I did increase the intensity to level 3 hoping to work out my legs a bit more. I have a long way to go.. but after reading the last couple days of posts, I know that when you ask if I want to join you for a run.. I'll have to pass. lol My boss, in her attempt to get her staff healthier has gotten us a personal trainer. So 2-3 days a week we get to work out with her for about 30 minutes. Squats, lunges, dead lifts, ab work, running, then if I have time I follow it up with some time on the track or in the pool. I'm working on baby steps like gmrgirl says. I'm heading off to my first swimming class. Patricia |

I was slow, but not the slowest! Take it easy and enjoy it. Each milestone is a big deal and YOU are a big deal for doing it. Each mile, each hour, each workout. You are doing really well, and your patience and realistic expectations are to commended. I can't WAIT for a year from now, to see what you have done!!!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I had my first computrainer class at Vision Quest. Today was our threshold test. 15 min warm-up, then 20 minutes as hard as you can. To motivate you to go all out, you are "racing" against everyone else. On the screen in front of us were everyone's "stats", speed, milage, avg. speed, etc. Finished the 20 min and felt like throwing up. 10 min recovery easy spin. Then another 20, but at 90% of your last 20 min average. (They do the math for you). My legs are toast. But, I'm excited about this class. One of my goals this year is to improve my bike, so I'm ready to get comfortable being uncomfortable. |

Isn't it great! I did my test last week. I was at 90% of my peak Ironman level which I was happy with after two surgeries and a month off and a 6 week period on my own, no coach. Back a week and getting to it hard. Nice brick yesterday with 90 minutes of hill repeats at low cadence and high power and a 4 mile run. Today was 3 hours on the CT at 70% FTP. Lovely day |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good Morning! First day of work at new job. I'm ready! I'm also spending the rest of the month rehabbing the foot. See how that works. I played 18 holes with my ultra runner friend Barbie and my gym rat friend Gail yesterday. It was nice play with them and get some good advice about rest and taking care of the body. It's funny, I used to play with the beer drinking set (and they are fun) but now I play golf with fitness freaks! Planned some trail walk/runs for the next month or so. I'm thinking staying off the asphalt and concrete will be a good start to this rehab...and ice and heat and massage and swimming...and shoe inserts... Have a great week everyone, I'll send greetings after the gym workouts. |
