All eleven digits are crossed, Cheri. How was the quick trip? Absolutely fabulous! And how was the date with no liquid courage?
*waist. Sheesh, pretty exhausted today.
The date was pretty fabulous sans alcohol. Proved that we can in fact have an absolute riot in any circumstance under any conditions. I honestly think we'd find something to laugh at at a funeral. |

Guess that makes two of us. That makes pretty much all of TAN! I'm even certified! I've been to quite a few funerals and memorials around the world, and at the latest here in Bali (for an expat friend, although many foreigners and Indonesians both attended), an Indonesian girlfriend of mine elbowed me and said, "Why is everyone so quiet? It's like they all died, too!" It's not that we're (merely) twisted and have issues. But here, at funerals, there's lots of talking, jostling, kids running around, eating, wrappers crinkling, music, etc. It's not that people aren't grieving; they are. But we seem to be much 'closer' to death here in that people are not squeamish about bodies, and ceremonies celebrate death as part of life--no need to be grim. |

Chatham Ontario | Subject: RE: TAN #160: Just farTAN' around as usual ... I will need to check that out. Funerals are funny, when my dad passed we didn't have a funeral. I did exactly what he wanted. And I had a bunch of my friends over that knew my dad, we cooked up a big dinner, sat around had drinks with his ashes out in my garage. I kept him there for a week... Then I took him up to spread it all where I scuba dive in Tobermory. And I got drunk again up there and had fun. A lot of his friends and our family were pissed at me for not having a full on funeral service.. but not what the dude wanted... I agree with my Dad once you are gone you are gone. Not much left there but a shell... |

Not much left there but a shell... I think that is great and the most important thing was honoring his wishes. My friend Ed, before he died (he was ill and knew it'd be in the next year or so) he'd bought up a freezerfull of unbelievable free-range meat from some famous ranch in Texas. We threw a huge barbecue with all that meat and and a ton of the real-bad-for-you-but-oh-so-good sides, played lots of country music (he even had a dog named Blue), and acted like rednecks. Some of us went to the funeral beforehand, which was a very small and rather quick but respectful and fairly formal affair since he was a vet and buried in a vet's cemetery. Still was one of the best memorials ever. |

ok I feel better now that I napped again.. I am bored as hell thinking about playing PS3 and some Call of Duty but not sure.. I could take a scout break but not really worked up about anything. I did do a pet a cure...haha on my dog she has trimmed nails and paw fur, so it stops bringing in all the snow..
Awesome Race Report Elaine.... Beer and Marathon only way to fuel a run. |

One of my favorite quotes ever “Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!”
