Tripopo - 2012-05-19 10:05 PM Ok need POD advice for tomorrow- 600 meter OWS wetsuit legal. Yea or Nae and and please show your work. I'm 50-50 honestly my only worry is getting it off fast enough in T1.

With my vast experience of one pool  based sprint, my first Q would be 'what water temp are you expecting?'

Asalzwed - 2012-05-18 1:33 PM Alright my MAD MANATEES, what great things are you all going to do this weekend?

Going to a Bike to Work event tonight, hope to get in good with some of the local cyclist advocacy groups for next years PUT, with Hopefully a run when I get home.  HAPPY NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK DAY!!!

Sprint tri this sunday but definitely a B or C race, just going to go hammer it and see where it lies to better prep for the one in July.  After that yard work and pick up DW when she gets in on Sunday

Yanti- I am more than willing to come help with tar and feathering but I think 4th floor defenestration will be much more theraputic, you get to hear them all the way down...

As for Charity, I learned that if you can offer people something, a bike ride, pig picking, oyster roast etc. people will come and give well.

pig picking? i live in the the wrong country.

enjoy your race and love the dog piccie

Wear it!!!   That and drafting the swim are the only legal "cheating" allowed.   I bring a stool/bucket to sit on when I strip mine off.  Pull cord for zipper, get the arms off and down to your waist in the run into T1, take a seat, pull the rest off, pop on the bike shoes, put on the helmet and sunglasses, hop on the bike and go!

Thanks for all the good luck wishes, and good luck to everyone else racing this weekend!

I would SO rock a manatee racing shirt.  Just sayin'!   Love the pic Salty added; does that say manatee pale ale?!?  Nice!

The racing shirt sounds ace.

Of course the Salty pic has the word 'ale' in it, she wouldn't bother to post a pic without it.

Ok, Salty, here ya go.  The gentleman is a longtime family friend who was ECSTATIC that he won the raffle.  The lovely lady is the groomer at my work who 'cleaned things up' after the hatchet job Laughing.  This was all being done on the back patio of the pub where I was having my fundraiser.

wow! That is just amazing. Amazingly selfless and amazingly beautiful! I love this.

Thank goodness I don't have a strange shaped head!  I lost my best friend to breast cancer--she was the most amazingly selfless person I have ever known.

Jo, sorry my previous posts have been so frivolous, i post as i read so i didn't get to yours til now. i used to be a cop and in the UK that arsehole would be locked up as soon as the complaint was made, assuming he didn't run like the chicken he must be if he's picking on a woman.

Sadly this doesn't help you and the stress you must be under. I wish i was closer and able to help more directly. For now, i will add my prayers to those of those of the others and hope this monster is taken into custody on a long term basis, very soon.

I would wear the wetsuit.  The times I've worn my wetsuit, I did not have a problem getting it off.  Once I get out of the water, I start to unzip and take my wetsuit off to the waist and run to T1.  Once in T1, I take the rest of the wetsuit off.  Once the wetsuit is around my ankles, I step on my wetsuit to "yank" my feet out of the legs of the wetsuit.  I hope that makes sense.  Make sure to put body glide on your neck and around your ankles to prevent chaffing.  Also it seemed like I was able to take the wetsuit off easier when I put the body glide around my ankles.  I'm a slow swimmer, so I did go faster in the wetsuit and I felt more secure.  Let us know how it goes.

Jo, I will be praying for the safety of your family.  I know the mama bear feeling.  I would do (almost) anything for my kids and it is so difficult to let them make their own decisions sometimes.

Kirk, I would wear the suit. But I am NOT a strong swimmer and will take any help I can get.  I did a race in August in Denver last year where the water was about 70 and I did not get too hot. As metioned above I stripped it to the waist running to my spot and then finished peeling it off with no problems. With a 750m swim I'm sure I gained more time using it then I lost peeling it off.

Oh and Kirk I think I'd wear the suit. I think although the swim isn't too long the suit provides speed benefits that outweigh how long it takes to get off. Come on Kirk, step up the strippin' game!

Our Manatee group sure is facing all sorts of challenges, whether it is triathlons, running, frustration, illness, family issues, etc..  I have to say thank you all so much!!  This group has blended together so well.  I have been in many mentor groups and this one is becoming like a big family.

Yanti-I hope you get your mom the care she needs soon.  As a medical professional, this type of negligence and mistreatment makes me sick. It makes me even sicker that health care is not available to everyone, everywhere.  You are a woman of AMAZING strength and that strength is being tested with the weight of the world on your shoulders.

TJ-So sorry to hear about your niece.  I will keep her in my prayers.

I actually have some good news, sort of.  We have been dealing with a issue with my youngest daughter.  We almost lost her last Friday.  I received a phone call from the police that she was not breathing and they were taking her to the ER across town. By the time I got to the ER, she was awake, by the grace of God.  She spent some time in an ICU and then was eventually transferred to another hospital, for her own protection.  She came home yesterday and though it is wonderful to have her home, I am scared for her.  Her issues have been the result of an evil boyfriend.  She has told him that there can be no more communication and no relationship.  From texts that he is still sending, and calls to the house, he is not accepting that well.  I laid awake last night, praying that my dogs are good enough watch dogs.   I had the phone right by me,in case I had to call 911.  I feel like we will end up being one of the news stories you hear on the 11pm news about the boyfriend that came over and slaughtered the whole family.  My first marriage was evil.  This is scarier.  This time I am scared for my child and that is so much worse.  It took everything in me to leave for 4 days to go to Big Sur and do something for myself.  Since I have been home, my existence has been here.  I feel I need to protect my family and my home.  Training will not resume until I can feel comfortable leaving the house for more than work or even losing focus for a short while.  I feel like a mother bear protecting her cub. The police officer that was on the scene last Friday told me to take her to another country, change our names, and not leave a forwarding address.  He said that is what he would do if it was one of his 4 daughters.  Unfortunately, my daughter is 20 and an adult so I have no power. I have to trust that she will make the right decisions and be strong enough to protect herself. Nonetheless, I am happy that she is alive and home.

Thanks for listening.  Needless to say, I am praying all the time.  Bring it!  If you need prayers for anything, my list is infinite.  There is nothing better that I can do with my time right now than pray.

Holy Cow!  That is terrifying.  I think I'll send Artemis to a convent.  I am sure your daughter will make the right decisions.  You are doing what you can to protect her and your family.  This guy sounds like an evil bully - stay safe, prayers and thoughts are with you...

Hah! I was 5 minutes late to official packet pick-up time! Luckily they were running behind...

Weird--no shirt for this race, instead they gave us a tech-fabric 'beanie' hat and one of those bags with the rope handles--kinda like a backpack but more flimsy looking. Definitely the most odd swag I have gotten so far. Oh, and my swim cap is bright. neon. pink. and so is my race bib! SurprisedWow.  I am SOOOO not a pink kinda Kate....At least they won't lose me in the water, right? Oh well, I am going to have a great time tomorrow! Smile

Oooh, I like the beanies.  My head gets too hot in the summer in a hat.  But I agree with your other 2 points: those backpacks are useless, and pink is wrong.  Good luck and have fun!!

OK pod members, need some help.  I am racing on Monday as you know.  Wasn't going to go too hard, mostly wanted the swim race practice.  I am scheduled to do another sprint next Saturday--signed up to do it with a friend.  It is a pool swim, I would have been racing first.  I was going to do the swim, wait for her, then do the bike and run together.  Point being I was not going to go hard at all, just would be fun to do with a friend.  I am also possibly doing a charity half marathon in June.  So now my friend has injured her ankle and can't do the race.  And I skipped my long run today so that I wasn't too fatigued for Monday.

Soooooo, question.  Do I do both races easy?  Do I do 'race' the race on Monday and do the one on Saturday easy.  Do I race Monday and skip Saturday?  Do I do my long run tomorrow and go easy on Monday?  hellllllllllp!
