And there was a bit of rain out on the course early.....

Great picture.  I loved the weather last year.  The only thing I would have changed would have been having a fresh pair of socks in T2, I'll include a pair this year.  I would much prefer rain/drizzle/mist over super hot.  It is heating up out here in the desert and I am dreading running in the heat.  I expect our weather will be great.

devilfan02 - 2013-03-12 3:10 PM My parents live on the coast in Orange County and I don't even pay attention to weather reports when I'm there. I've just come to expect that it will be foggy and misty until noon usually. Oceanside is no different. A storm is a different story and hopefully that doesn't happen. At a minimum, I'm going in mentally expecting dreary conditions race morning

I live on the coast in Seal Beach. Weather changes all the time. Maybe I should get a ride in if it gets a little wet. However I did ride my bike this morning in the fog up the San Gabriel river. Interesting experience with only about 10 feet viability.

Our forecast has taken an ugly turn:

http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/oceanside-ca/92054/march-weather/337180

Although whatever clouds and storm they are predicting for the 30th have plenty of time to speed up or slow down, if it turns out as forecast, it will be much like last year.

Yeah, my socks were soaked from the bike and my feet blistered a lot on the run from the wet socks.  Such an easy thing to throw in there for a little insurance.  It would have made a big difference for me last year.

Not quite yet ready for taper....   Gonna be harder to keep the weight down!

And I know it's WAY too early to talk actual forecast, and it will in fact change, but how can the ONLY rainy day in the next 30 days fall squarely on race day?

What does everyone's training plan call for this weekend?  I'm always interested to see how folks approach the days leading up to raceday.

I have a 3-hr ride followed by a 3-mile brick run on Saturday.  Open water swim on Sunday.

Going to Oceanside for a race sim Saturday, first 24 miles of the course (out and back), followed by one loop run approx 6 miles.  Sunday is a 1:15 run, followed by an OWS, distance depending on location and conditions

Speaking of which, whoever is interested PM you cell phone, and I'll do the same re figuring out where to meet.  I am thinking the open lots on Mission will be OK, if you are going to run, bring something to cover the bike.  Fallback will be the covered lot

Don't forget your CDL to get on base.

I am ready to start my taper on Monday. I'm tired but feeling great. I am just planning on reducing the miles but  keeping up the intensity. My mind is starting to zero in and really focus. Can't wait!

Well I'm down in Oceanside regardless. Doens't really affect too much. Haha. I suppose I still would have showed up on Fri either way to the expo and gotten a bit of a shock. Haha.

2hr ride with a 1 hr brick run on Sat. 90min run and 60min recovery ride on Sun. Hopefully it stops snowing...really ready for California...

Wish I could do an OWS but I'd have to go to AZ to do it.

For me 2 hour run Saturday, 4 hour ride Sunday, next week is same as usual then start taper next Saturday.

I'm driving over from PHX next weekend and will be working in Irvine the week before the race.  Best case scenario is I get to OC late Saturday night which would allow me to get a training session in Oceanside on Sunday (3/24).

Does anyone have a training session planned in Oceanside that day?  I wouldn't mind riding the start of the course followed by a short run.

I have a 3-hr ride followed by a 3-mile brick run on Saturday.  Open water swim on Sunday.

My plan has a 2 week "peak" before "race week". Peak Week 1 ends this Sunday; At this point I'm doing a day of a hard workout followed by two easy recovery days, then another hard workout day, followed by 2 easy days, etc. The hard days usually have me doing 2 of the 3 if not all 3 disciplines, with 1, perhaps 2 being at race pace.

Race week has me doing 3 days of all 3, short duration, overall easy with short efforts at race pace, but including the bike to run transition all 3 days. I'll take Thursday off and Friday, the day before race day, is an easy 15 min swim, 45 min spin and 15 to 20 min easy run.

Good luck to everyone and let's pray for nice weather and a calm day in the ocean!

Well my training has not been great but yesterday was better. Managed a 1.2 mile swim, 29 mile bike and 5 mile run. But some simple yard work threw my back out...ugh. I have a lot of building to do on the bike and run, but am ready for the swim. I just want to finish! I will be arriving on Friday am and we are staying at the trailer park. Super excited for my first 70.3!!

Am hoping a past Oceanside participant can help with a post-race question -

With two separate transition areas, I'm assuming gathering all your transition bags after the race is somewhat difficult.  I'm most concerned about getting my "morning clothes" bag back ASAP after the race so I can get warm.  How does this work?
