Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Seems like bike pumps are going to be a problem on race morning. Doesn't sound like they will take a bike pump in the bags (pre-race clothes or swim to bike bag). Could be a real PITA |

Doesn't sound like they will take a bike pump in the bags (pre-race clothes or swim to bike bag). Could be a real PITA I never have to pump up on race day regardless. I can usually go 3-4 days without reinflating clinchers. However, I'd be happy to "stash" a pump out there for us to use. I have an old one that it wouldn't kill me if it didn't come home. |

Why "Yuck"???? |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My tolerance for cold water is pretty low. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tricrazy - 2013-05-01 11:33 AM My tolerance for cold water is pretty low. Well, the race is a month away. At this rate, there is a possibility that the race will not be wetsuit legal, which would cause **most** people to say "Yuck". |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I hope you are right and it warms up that much. It just seems we have not had much warm weather yet this spring. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 82 sounds nice to me :-) My only hope of holding off fgump on the run is a nice warm non-wetsuit swim :-) Not that its a race or anything Having said that, could the race be here already? I am nowhere near where I want to be fitness-wise but I am sorta tired of trying to squeeze all the training in (and then not quite hitting the goals). Real life has been very busy, so training-life tends to get squeezed. Oh well, its about doing your best with the time and energy you have, right! |

now youve screwed us...its guna be like 102* now...lol Looking back at Jordan Lake water temps, on 5/1/12, it was 69F. It crossed 76 degrees on 5/23/12, and 78 on 5/29. Peak temp was 86 in August. Mind you, these are the temperatures from the Corps of Engineers. I'm betting WTC will have their own measurements taken. I'll keep track of the data for the next 5 weeks and post it here and in the Ironman Race Group thread.

She is more acutely aware of how close June 2nd is than I am. I can just see the honey-do list growing daily.82 sounds nice to me :-) My only hope of holding off fgump on the run is a nice warm non-wetsuit swim :-) Not that its a race or anything Having said that, could the race be here already? Real life has been very busy, so training-life tends to get squeezed. Oh well, its about doing your best with the time and energy you have, right! She was so kind as to take young son to t-ball practice last night so I could squeeze in a miserable, lackluster bike ride. And I'll do it again tomorrow. And again Sunday. And in the end, I'll just be another age-grouper trying to promote a "healthy" (?) way of life. Some days I ask just how healthy this is? Louis hits the nail on the head though. It is about doing your best with the time, energy, (and resources) that you have! We will have many of our friends and family able to come out and see just how crazy we are, many of them likely for the first time. I for one am hyping up the run course, and many of my coworkers have signed up to volunteer. I myself will be volunteering at athlete registration on that Friday afternoon! So let's push through this last month and give them a show! |

![]() ![]() | ![]() On another thread someone posted the lake temps for that date for the last 10 years. The highest was 82. 68 -70 would be nice. Getting above 78 gets hot in the wetsuit. The temp can get up to 83.6, and while not wetsuit legal, it is wetsuit "allowed"... you just can't win an AG award... not that I had a snowball's chance of that anyway! I'd rather be hot and finishing the swim in a wetsuit rather than dragging my non-floating 1.2 miles! fgump - 2013-05-01 1:16 PM fgump - 2013-05-01 12:59 PM halfpint - 2013-05-01 12:48 PM I'm doing a snow dance at present...I'd be happy if the water was 65 thank you very much.tricrazy - 2013-04-30 11:45 PM I hope you are right and it warms up that much. ![]() ![]() | ![]() I try and keep tabs on as many of these forums as I can. Ill chime in with a few comments about the bus/parking situation and wetsuits. First, the remote lots are located at White Oak Rec Area and Seaforth Rec Area. These lots are 6 and 4.5 miles away from the swim start. We have 500 parking spots between those two lots. I would encourage anyone that is not a local living to the west of Jordan Lake to park downtown and ride the shuttles to the start. Pea Ridge Rd (road that the park is on) will be closed 1.8 miles from transition at the closest intersection and no athletes will be driving into the park race morning. Police will be staffing this intersection. In order to make this work, we need the busses to have a clear shot race morning and cannot have other cars trying to figure out where to go on that road. We will bus spectators back to the remote lots and downtown after the swim portion, or as soon as we get enough space to safely get the busses out. There is only one road in/out so they will be using the same road the cyclist will to leave. The "Getting Around Guide" on the website has this information along with road closure info in it. Wetsuits... Cooler than normal temps have everyone anxiously waiting to see what the temp will be race morning. WE will take the official reading race morning around 5:00am. We will not use the Army Corps temp. That is a great resource leading up to the race to get an idea where the water is at. Race week we will take our own temp readings and post them on the Facebook page and announce them at the pre-race meetings. Due to the shallow body of water at Jordan Lake, the water temp can change rather quickly. We should have a much better idea where we are at race week and will let people know. Just a heads up, if the temp is between 76.2 and 83.8 and you choose to wear a wetsuit, you will start in a wave we will add as the last wave (start time of 8:22am). Looking forward to a great inaugural event in Raleigh. Brian Myrick Edited by bhmyrick 2013-05-02 1:11 PM |

It sounds like if someone wanted to drop competitors off at race site on race day, the closest they would be able to get is 1.8 miles and you would have to walk the rest of the way. Or ride the shuttles from Raleigh all the way to T1. Am I reading that correctly? |
![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() | ![]() You are correct. What I want to avoid is people dropping folks off at that nearest intersection. I can not have people walking down the middle of that road in the dark while we are trying to get a couple thousand athletes and spectators into the park as quickly as we can. |

I'm wondering if you'll have one huge last wave or am i overestimating the number of people that would opt for the wetsuit even if it's not legal? |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Brian, Thanks x2!!!!! Considering the race day logistics and water temps possibly right on the border (legal/not legal), do you think there is any chance you guys make this race wetsuit legal regardless of temperature like they did at IM NYC? Thanks again! Alan |
