I need to get more Emer-Gen-C- I'm out but I really like it.

Is anyone else like REALLY hungry?  Almost more hungry now than before?  I'm constantly tying to resist the urge to stuff food in my mouth.  Or do I just notice it more because I'm trying to watch what I eat since I'm not training as much??  Or should I not care and just eat?  I'm just paranoid about gaining a bunch of weight back.

I am hungry all the time too. I eat small stuff all day long- banana, yogurt, pretzels, apple, some kind of power bar thing if I have to do a long evening work out....chocolate. I feel like I am full, get onto the bike and the next thing I know, I feel my stomach growling!
I am concerned about gaining weight too after being able to eat so much when we were training 15 to 20 hours a week. Guess the trick is to each healthy stuff, and race week, don't worry about the weight gain- it will come from all the extra carbs and fluids we have to take in to make it Saturday.-
I've never taken any of the Zcam or Emergen C things- are they good 'preventative' medicine type things or only for when you are getting sick?

they are both. EmergenC is lots of vitamin C 1000mg, with some B vitamins and other stuff much like Airborne, both good immune system boosters. Zicam is a homeopathic remedy that you squirt in your nose when you feel like you are getting a cold. It helps to lessen the severity of the cold and shorten the duration by attacking the virus replicating in your nose. I find the 1-2 punch very effective on a cold!

I would take the EmergenC or airborne as a preventative from now until the race (I have been anyway.) Along with a regular multi vitamin.

Don't worry about the weight gain. Just be smart about what you eat and try not to binge on empty calories. You won't put on weight, you haven't gone cold turkey! After the race is when the weight goes on especially with the holidays around the corner.

I remember my HR watch saying that I burned over 9000 calories during the ironman! My DH burned over 11,000! Yikes. Only 2 days till numbers come out!

I am frustrated with this week.  Turned swim night Monday into rest night then cut last night short due to fatigue and tonight had to scrap workout altogether due to 2 hours of afternoon commute traffic hell (not to mention the ol' knee).  Was already pushing it to get 13 hours in this week, now it looks like I'll be at least an hour short... maybe a little more.   Having crazy negative thoughts that this one hour reduction in training this week is going to wreck IMFL for me.  I think my mind is starting to wander down that road...  gotta get back to being positive.

Did someone say hungry?  Are we getting something to eat?  Where are we meeting?  I'm down for anything, anywhere.  I just polished off a box of Nilla Wafers, 1540 calories in addition to my 4 over loaded fajitas and two peices of pie for desert.  I usually eat a lot but this is CRAZY.  Someone asked me at the bike shop if I had a taperworm I eat so much.  They meant it as being funny as I was inhaling a Big Mac, fries and a pie for a second lunch a few days ago.

Don't worry about missing or shortening a workout at this point.  If you have put in the training consistantly, one or two or three missed workouts will not make a difference.  Here is what I look at now when trying to decide if I need to skip a workout or shorten the length:

Training to date:

130 miles swimming

4500 miles biking

1000 miles running

550 hours training

Don't worry about missing a workout or missing a weekly hour target.  The main thing is to train consistently and get the KEY workouts in.

At BSLT, Desiree Ficker was signing autographs.  She signed a picture for me.  Guess what she wrote: "Good luck tomorrow.  Stay positive."  Everytime I feel negative, especially during a workout, I think about what she wrote.  Even the pros have negative mental thoughts and troubles to work through.

I think it's normal at this point in our training to doubt our fitness.  We're doing less and we're so accustomed to doing more.  What we need to remember is to trust our plan- what we did 1 month ago and 3 months ago is what's going to help us on race day.  "They hay is in the barn!"  We just need to remember all those LONG training days we did- they ARE going to help us.  Right now our bodies need more rest and recovery so we'll feel good come race day!

"They hay is in the barn!"

Yeah, but sometimes I feel like the barn might be on fire.

I don't want all that hay is going to go to waste.

Think about your taper workouts this way and it might help you stay positive: I've noticed my taper workouts are so easy.  I go out for a 1 hour run and I feel strong.  The run is easy.  This weekend I have a 3:30 bike ride scheduled.  I'm thinking "Only 3 and half hours?  That's a 'ride in the park'!"  A 1:20 swim.  No problem...did a 2 hour swim a last week and a 1:30 OWS a couple weeks ago.

Find a way to spin to the positive.  It's way too late to start worrying about training volume.

I just had the MOST horrible run in my life!  It kinda killed my confidence.  But I look at this way- it's good prep for the IM because I know I'm not going to feel great during the entire run.  And it's best to get the bad workouts out of the way before the IM right??

I'm so behind on training for this I'm not tapering-yet...I'm still building. I rode 45 miles last night and ran 2 quick miles..(ugh!)

This weekend we are going to hit a century ride and a long run. Then I think it will be 2 hour rides with lots of bricks.

Grrr...numbers are not up yet. Darn.

Very true! I had a great 7 mile run last night...worked in some sprints and hit an hour for the 7 miles. Wed and Tuesday had good long swim, bike to run transition. Tomorrow morning, a nice little 7 to 9 mile run in the wonderful cool temps. Sunday a nice "short" 60 mile ride....ONLY 60 miles!!!!

Numbers come out today....Time to shop this weekend for those last minute things- reflector tape, insulated water bottle, new tires on the bike (after the 60 mile ride)- stock up on Cliff Shots, Power gels......
Hope everyone is pumped as I am. Don't get discouraged at this point!! We have all been busting our guts and everything else for the past 24 weeks- nearly half a year of our lives- to be as well prepared as we are now....no dark clouds, no negative thoughts. Grab a copy of IM Kona that was televised and watch it this weekend. Find the most motivational movie you can and watch it. Have your friends send you positive, uplifting messages- NOW! They want to do this for you!!!
Hang in there Jeanne- be safe with your miles. You have a great endurance base in already. Don't burn out before Nov. 4 and give yourself plenty of rest time.

I'm keeping and no BIB #'s yet

One question- do we need reflective tape since they give us glow sticks?  Also I heard that you should try to get rid of anything reflective before you cross the finish line because it'll glow in your finish photo.  Maybe I'll put a little bit of reflective tape on my back or something if I need to.

Thanks Becky, i won't burn out! i finally feel good. I have felt run down, sick and not motivated since September! The past 2 weeks I have finally felt back to normal. I havent ridden anything over 48 miles, or run more that 9 miles. So I think I am in for a very rude awakening at the start line on 11/4. But that is ok. ;o)
I need a century ride for confidence building. It's the biggest part of the race and the one that I have blown off the most. (ugh)

Numbers are still not up.....grrr.

Jeanne, you know your body better than any of us but I would think about the volume that you plan to do so close to the race.  It takes the average person 1-2 weeks to absorb a large volume workout.  It is also better to be undertrained than overtrained for an Ironman.  Do what you think is best for you but don't leave it all out in training.

Race numbers are posted today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Put the reflective tape on your back. I used the fuel belt and it has a lot of reflective stuff on it. i also ran with a glow stick in my hand and chucked it when entering the finish area (in a garbage can of course!)

I was also advised to put strips of reflective tape on the corners of your race bib, on your shoes if they don't already have it. Also label everything with your name and race number- everything!!!

The IM Fla. site is probably getting 10,000 hits an hour with all of us checking for race numbers. This is worse than waiting for Christmas morning to come to open packages!

Well it sounds like people are starting to get just a little excited. But in case you are not, Mike, aka mkmbharris has a link to a you tube video on his web site. You can also get to it by just going to www.youtube.com and doing a searc on ironman florida.

Be warned, its pretty cool. If you don't get goose bumps watching this, you need to poke yourself to see if you are still alive.
