I'm thinking of doing the Avalon 50 in Jan 2015. Originally posted by alex_korr The weather forecast seems to be forecasting temps in the mid-80s starting from next week. Oh, and the thunderstorms this Saturday! I know as well as anyone that it's not accurate, but as of right now it'll be 79 on race day per accuweather. Woot!! As for me, it's been a long season and I am nearing the edge of burnout, if I haven't crossed over already.... I am starting to not really care, just gonna go, do the best I can, get the shirt, and have fun. And then four weeks later I have a trail marathon. I really gotta have a word with my race season planner. He's a douche Well I sure am not letting him plan anything yet for next season. I, I mean he.... actually started looking at HITS palm springs a couple weeks ago and had to slap him to get him to close the page (the $160 entry fee made that easier too) Catalina Eco Marathon 11/8
I did HITS in 2012, signed up last year for like $25 with a tri club discount, so it was no biggie to skip due to cold And yeah, I know that In N Out. Funny, I hardly ever eat it here at home. My only thought is... it's sold out

Regular 302 Georgetown, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread I'll be coming in Saturday morning. I'll probably just drive the course to see what's in store for me! More important than my meal after the race, I'm trying to decide what to eat the night before. I have a hard time not eating amazing dinners in Vegas, and if I'm eating the buffet Sunday, I'll have to plan something good and good for me for Saturday night! |

34 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread I'm coming Saturday as well. I tend to do really well on sushi dinners the night before a race. Can't beat rice, fish and veggies rolled up in a ball (as long as it's fresh!). |

Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Little bit of a cooling trend. Accuweather shows 76 on Sat (!!) and 85 on Sun. Still not accurate tho And NOAA showing 80 degree water temps at 10 feet. |

Still not accurate tho And NOAA showing 80 degree water temps at 10 feet. Weather.com's 10 day forecast shows a high of 91 on race day. That's getting up there for sure. Luckily they aren't forecasting much wind. We've had a lot cooler temps were I live so I'm not going to be acclimated to the heat at all. |

Fortunately, the max temperature doesn't tend to happen until later in the afternoon. Hopefully we'll be done racing and losing all our money in the air conditioned casinos by that time. |

Extreme Veteran 566 Southern California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Strange weather pattern right now in the southwest. Wore a long sleeve jersey and full finger gloves on the ride this morning, started at 51 degrees. We hit 95 just a few days ago. I'm starting to believe the forecast, looks to be a warm day. |

Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Yeah, so.... hot What's your best heat beating techniques? Thinking I may remove my torhans frame bottle (flat kit) and put in two cages there, put the flat kit in the BTS bottle. Hydrating on the bike will be important De Soto coolwings, don't know that I've ever raced in them.... And now that I am thinking about it not sure how I would get them on with a no wetsuit swim as they go under the top. Alternate is de soto arm coolers Definitely carrying a hand bottle on the run, ice water at every aid station. Ice in the palms as well. And under the cap That's all I can think of. Any others? A friend here has used one of those cool towel things in HI races. I sorta dismissed it but maybe i'll order one. For those thinking it's not that hot (!) I come home from 45 minute runs in 63 degrees soaking wet. It will be an issue for me, unfortunately |

Regular 302 Georgetown, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread I'm looking forward to the heat! It's been too chilly on my morning rides lately! I'll just be thankful for the lack of humidity. I'll probably take one of those cool towels. I've never used it before, but I have one. lol. The bike won't bother me, but the run may get a little uncomfortable! I'll carry two bottles on the bike and one on the run. Aid stations every mile should be plenty of water, but I'll still carry one to be cautious. |

34 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread I wasn't going to do the fuel belt, but I think I may have to. I may freeze the bottles and leave them in the bag overnight. Hopefully by the time I get to the run they'll be melted just enough, but not too much. Tons of ice down the tri top also. Edited by adamchill 2014-09-29 10:30 PM |

Member 178 Sioux Falls, SD | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Hopefully WTC is able to prepare for the temperatures and adjust the amount of ice/water/perform that they'll need. I've raced in some pretty warm weather before and just have to adjust my nutrition plan and listen to my body. With these warmer afternoon temps but still cooler morning temps, anybody's opinion change on the prospects of it being wetsuit legal? No chance now? I think I'm bringing my wetsuit no matter what. I'd rather bring it and not need it than not bring it and it be wetsuit legal. |

Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread I am throwing the wetsuit in the car just because I can. But I don't expect it will be legal (and, in my opinion only, smart to wear one in those temps, just my .02). The rd is the same one for worlds a couple years back (and is very experienced) when it was also 95 ish. My friend told me the run stations ran out of ice so hopefully they learned I have to admit thoughts of bagging it started dancing around my head this morning ...... Not a great way to get psyched up for a race |

Extreme Veteran 566 Southern California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Silverman : Official Thread Originally posted by ChrisM I have to admit thoughts of bagging it started dancing around my head this morning You have raced a lot this year (plus travel), so I understand that, but you got this. I'm bringing my wetsuit too but am pretty bummed that we will most likely be unable to use them. As a poor swimmer I was counting on the wetsuit benefits. I'm concerned about the whole thing, no wetsuit, how to pace on the bike with the hills, and a hot run. At least we will be able to say that we did the Silverman 70.3 that one year it was really hot. |
