I "ran" my son to b-ball, then I "ran" to my daughter's dance recital, then we "ran" errands (Christmas shopping, almost done). Now I'm home, wrapped up in a blanket chatting here. You're a brave man, Sal. I can't fathom running in sub zero weather. It's in the 20's here (before wind chill) and I can barely stand to go from store to car to store again. Then again, I've been quite the slacker this month. I also have to chew out my DH for calling at midnight or later every night, especially when I have to drag 2 kids all over the valley in the morning. I say you total the amount of time you were "running" and log it!
I like the way you think! |

My blood is too thin for that much cold! We are just spoiled here in FL. Corey Yesssss! Good job on the rubbing in the warm weather, Corey . I think 13 miles is very respectable. I also strongly believe that you need to listen to your body so good on ya for doing that today even if it meant cutting your planned run down a little. Ummmm... I swear I only had one glass of wine... it was an honest to goodness typo but, ummm, errrr... I mean to say good job on the RUNNING. However, rubbing is also encouraged in any kind of weather. I had an awesome massage today and there was lots of rubbing involved. I'm going to step away from this topic at this point, I think...

Of course, my joints would seize up and turn blue but that's just a minor detail .

It was just one of those days, so instead of the 17 miles, I put in 13. It just could not get in the rhythm today, for whatever reason. I was well fed from last nite and the am, nothing out of the ordinary . . I did go to sleep later then I would have liked . . 11pm instead of 9:30, but, I have done those before. I think it was much hotter today that it has been, since I was already done with a 7oz FB flask @ mile 3 when I usually can get to 6 . . . so I am guessing the heat / humidity had a negative impact. Overall though, the 13 miles was a good run, I will call it a light week run and move on to the longer runs over the next few weeks. How was everybody else's workouts today? Corey 9 miles in sub zero weather (-11F)...hey if I'm gonna live in MN I deserve SOME bragging rights... Again... I ask... you live there on purpose??? What did you say, Sal? Who me? Padding my post count while the Boy Toy takes the babysitters home? I would never... GASP!!!! I can't believe he would accuse you of padding your post count! He didn't say it outloud but you know he's thinking it when I'm here talking to myself... kinda like I am right now...

And what do I need to do to improve. More miles at lower heart rates? Hey Cash... all things being relatively equal, the fact that you were able to PR on this distance (so you went faster than before) at a lower heart rate likely indicates that you've gained some cardiovascular fitness. In other words, your aerobic capacity has increased in a way that allowed you to handle the run at a faster pace but lower heart rate. Let's say that when Tom Triathlete first started training he was running a 10 minute mile with his HR at 160 BPM. After training for awhile, he becomes aware that he is able to run a 10 minute mile with his HR at 150 BPM... it is relatively safe to assume he's made some gains in fitness and that his body's working more efficiently and it would appear that he could then work towards increasing his pace because he has more "wiggle room" within his target HR zone. Does that make any sense? As far as improving, I'm still voting for lots of time in Zone 2. Yes, more miles at a lower heart rate. You got it . Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I have found this to be true in my experience (as limited as it is), but I didn't use my wiggle room to increase my speed, I just enjoyed training at the lower heart rate. He He. |

Word. You'll find your pace in Z2 will steadily increase over time. Nice gains with less injuries.
