Run 5
Swim 3
Bike 2

It's a recovery week for the running, so I'm not going to do the huge milage this week, but I still need the sessions. 30+ miles.

I know I need to start working on getting more swimming in, so I might have to start doing laps in the afternoon. When it warms up, and get's light a little earlier, I'll start biking to the train station every morning, which will start working on my biking base.

Well, I'm now following my coach's plan, so here's what my week looks like:
Swim - 2
Bike - 2
Run - 2

I know, not too interesting, but this week we do time trials in each sport to determine pace and heart rate ranges. Fun, fun, fun!

Last week I trained 6 days. First time I've done that in a while. Even though the workouts were not that long, it was pretty tough. But I believe that the consistency is more important than doing monster workouts then having to rest for 3 days afterwards.

Have a great week everyone!

Not sure what will be up for me this week, cuz I'm on the fence to being sick. I'm not really sick, I can get up and walk around and all that, but I'm not well either, feel generally tired, stuffed up, and sneezing/nose-blowing is too frequent!  Plus I'm colder than I should be, I'm wearing 1 more layer than usual plus a scarf, just sitting at my desk.

I had a swim on tap for today, but I am not going to do it, and I skipped on a long run yesterday. Maybe a quick spin so I don't have to go outdoors today? I really don't know what I should do in this situation. I know a lot of people just suck it up and train, but I have always been more cautious than that. The last thing I want is to be on-my- sick.

So, this week is play by ear.

Good luck to the rest of you!

Lisa, definatlely make sure you are feeling better before stressing the body. No sense ending up really sick and having to miss an extended  period of time.

Feel better! Cool

Hey group looking good. That is exactly what i wanted to see from everyone. Sometimes it is just important to put it down on "paper" to see what is needed and to have something to look back on and feel committed to it.

Its early, its January but we need consistency as this is the time to build that base for a great season. Think of it like a pyramid and we are building those crucial bottom rows that will support the whole structure.

Stay strong everyone and feel free to report back in as you complete workouts and see what is done and what you have to go for the week.

Wow, I am impressed with everyone's numbers. My goal is still the IMAZ so I had better get on some consistent training in a hurry. If I wait too much longer I will just have to default to the fast car. I am actually flying by the seat of my pants at this point so here is what I am hoping to get in the rest of the week: Run 4 Swim 2 Bike 2.

The coaches in my Tri-Club are already complaining that I'm not getting enough swimming in for IMAZ. I thought that 10 hours of training a week 10 months before the race was enough. Sigh. They seemed like such nice people before I signed up for IMAZ.

Get to it mister As Michael would say.... SUAT!!!!

I'd say 10 hours now is a good measure for IMAZ, and my 2 cents is make sure the bike is strong. My focus would go towards the bike and run before worrying about getting too much swimming. Sure its 3 sports but as amauters, getting enough T.I.T.S. is probably the easiest way to have a good race.

hey all.. looks like everyone has a good week planned!

Liz-I hope you get better and are able to get back in the game soon, but take the time to get all better

My plan this week :

4 x swim
3 x bike
3 x run

3 x core and weights

Keep in mind that my runs so far are not over 40 minutes so nothing is super long yet. I've already knocked off a bike and a swim and am FINALLY on days off so I should be good to go!

On a kinda side note, I'm pretty pumped because my parents have decided that they want to do the Death race with my in August, which means it'll be a family affair with my sister and I, my parents (and one other..) doing it! They aren't in the best shape, but Dad ran marathons in the military his whole life, and mom will stick to it if she says she will, they both renewed their memberships at the gym tonight and are pretty excited about it. I was nervous at first cause it's a bit commitment, and to be honest, I really don't want either of them to get hurt!! But the idea of doing this race with my family makes me sooo happy! (The race is a 125 km run through mountain trails.. and is pretty brutal..) My parents will be doing the easiest legs at 19KM each, so I think it's doable !!

Later group :-)

Unfortunatly, I can't swim . It's not just a question of concentrating on the weakest event, it's just trying to make sure that I can even finish the weakest event, especially under 2:20.

I'm going to start adding in some bike time though, as you suggested, so that I don't forget about it. Once it starts getting warmer/lighter earlier, I'll do the bike commute thing to get a good 14 miles in per day.

But I don't want to bag the marathon in March. I'm kind of looking forward to it.

Oops sorry, my bad, forgot about the mary. Yeah screw my advice. Get the swim figured out. Now for my swim advice. Don't worry about speed right now and spend all your time on getting comfortable and proper form. Speed will come naturally if you have good form.

I struggle again for a month or two after getting back in the pool and am just recently getting the feel back again for the water.

Save me going back 5 pages, which marathon are you doing?

So first day of the week and got in an incredible 4.25 mile run and weights. Just one of those runs where you start to feel the plan coming together. I had a hard bike workout last night and wasn't sure how I would feel tonight but it was smooth and just seemed "easy" to be moving along.

Hey group I had a nice run this morning, follow up with another great weight session. I'm off for the next couple of days and will continue with my running and finally get a bike in.

Just a side note I took the crew to the local Office Depot last night and bought my first MP3 player, and replaced my 8 year old laptop with a new one. I think it was about time to upgrade from Win.98. Anyway the MP3 is a neat little gadget, it even has an FM tuner which I listened to this morning.

Last night's swim went relatively well. My shoulder has been bothering me a little bit since picking up swimming again, so my coach backed the distance down a little and gave me some strength exercises to help it. Better safe than sorry. There's lots of time until my IM in Aug.

After that, I went and got a massage at Massage Envy with a new therapist who was pretty good. She says her nickname is "Search and Destroy". She's a joker, but she did use plenty pressure with her elbow and forearm. I'll go back to her again.

Tonight is my running assessment to determine my training zones (HR, paces, and RPE). It will be a 3-mile time trial.

First meeting with the Tri-Club's coach today. I'm just waiting for her to burst out laughing when she sees my plans for the rest of the year.

Almost at 100 running miles for the month (tomorrow), and I know that this is petty, but the tri-club season started today, and I'm NO LONGER THE SLOWEST PERSON IN THE POOL!!! Of course, the slowest person in the pool can't swim at all, but at least I'm making progress.

Had a weird swim last night. Was moving along fine and some young girl was standing there as all the lanes were full. I asked if she wanted to share a lane and she did so I moved over letting her take half and went on my way. On the way coming back I get blasted in the head, chin and side of the face by her as she is swimming in my lane.

I kept going after adjusting my goggles back on my face. She was stopped at the wall a few laps later and apologized and was on her way out of the pool. I kept going and my head started to throb. I got done went home and pretty much went straight to bed as I felt like my head was ringing. So I skipped my run from last night but will make it up today with my bike and make it a brick.

Mike (Ellis)- Good luck setting your training zones. Let the group know how it goes as I am interested to hear.

Mike (Shermbell)- Sorry to hear about the swimming incident. That's one of those things I always fear when someone jumps in a lane with me.

On a side note- can I change my goals to 2s/2r/3b? Basically flipping one bike with a run. Is that cheating?

Not a problem at all. The idea is to write it down what you hope to accomplish this week and be held accountable to it. Getting consistent is the most important thing right now. Build that base and prep for an outstanding season.

Strangely that thought crossed my mind. I always see how these NFL players get hit and keep playing and after find out they suffered a concussion and wondered how they ever finished the game.

I know I didn't because by morning I was fine and have no ill effects.

Wednesday, Wednesday

My day started out horrible with no motivation and freezing temps I gave in to temptation and had a horrible for me breakfast. I was still lacking motivation by lunch and had pizza and thought ooh no this is going to be bad.

My coach had a big interval bike workout for me today and I was thinking I would have trouble holding the watts I was supposed to. BUT I got on the bike and everything turned around. I had a great ride easily holding the watts and then tonight had  a great run.

I am preparing my sermon on consistency for everyone. The Reverend Michael will be preaching on it soon. I have learned so much from my coach these past few months and am just amazed by how a simple thing is changing everything I have ever known about training.

Have a great day everyone!
