Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay swimmers? for ya.. I just got back from my swim..it felt great. I did 250 warm up, 4x300 with 50 kickboard in between. However, I just noticed it was suppose to be 300's with a pull bouy. Does that make it easier or more difficult. I don't like the pull b's they have at my pull so I don't use..so I really have no experience. The plan was suppose to be for 45 mins, but I had to stop early because the pool was about to close and I try to always save 10 mins for my daughter. Gotta keep her happy so she keeps wanting to go to the pool with mom. t Dog |

For some with a very weak kick and poor ankle flexibility it is easier as it will keep your legs from sinking. I would suggest swimming without and counting your strokes / length! Keep up the great work!! |

![]() | ![]() Its true, he does tell everyone to count their strokes.. I'm stuck on 18 strokes per pool length. I think that is too excessive I just saw the video on flip turns and read the part of losing breathing focus during the flip. I thought I was the only one who had that issue. I'm glad I'm not different than most who do flips. Another weekend coming upon us whats the plan for this weekend? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ctnord - 2008-01-17 6:06 PM JBD - your races look awesome! So living in Iowa...my races are all po dunk. I think I need to go somewhere warm. Heading home to go for a swim. I just looked at my planned workout...it says I should swim 300 steady, 100 drill repeats for 45 mins. No stopping...seriously...I thought it was a big deal swimming for 20 mins last summer.
Later... T Dog
Those aren't my races above your post, those are TBATT's races. My races are on my blog, 2HIMs, 1 Oly and a couple sprints. I can't hang with our resident big dogs. |

With 123 days to my first HIM, I think I will be training. They expect wintery mix this weekend (which for Atlanta might as well be a massive blizzard), so probably mostly inside work. I will go to the pool tomorrow during lunch and get the super frigid outdoor swim in. How about you? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tbatt - 2008-01-17 10:10 PM Another weekend coming upon us whats the plan for this weekend? Hopefully training somewhere/somehow, but my Trooper wife looks dead to the world, so I might figure out a way to get her some quiet time so she can sleep/rest. Options are limited, as baby is not fully innoculated yet. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK everyone. Since my body is not as awesome-licious as Trixie, I decided to use the photo from the Indian wedding we went to in Jodhpur. Yes I am rockin' the turban and the 2ble breasted tux. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() JBD - Seriously..you can swim outside in Atlanta in January! Wow...what am I doing in Iowa? My husband ask me that everyday. Strokecount...17-18 pretty consistent. Tbatt - I'm with you on the flip turns...takes my breath away. I never do them. I also watched the video and thought it was pretty good. I think I'm going to work from home tomorrow so I may take a quick afternoon swim on work on them. P.S...we have this Lighten Up Iowa contest that just started...thus why I'm hitting the workouts so well! It's a contest and I'm my team's leader...AND I like to WIN:-) I'm going to look like Trixie come the contest date....April 24th! T dog |

THEN we'll go for a huge breakfast ;-) maybe I'll be able to ride Sunday instead. Next weekend is my new training schedule! |

We have odd weather and a heated pool. Tonight and tomorrow is snow, but I would still swim in the pool. It is like when you get in a hot tub when skiing out west. The trip to and from is really cold but in the water is fine as wine. As a side note, I like your attitude about the race. You will win it. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Trainer Question: I plan on spending a lot of time on my trainer until Spring and I was wondering what type of workouts you guys do? Please be specific, since many of the hard core cyclist language confuses me (I mean that in a good way). Do you always wear your HRM on trainer and train by HR? By RPE? If you do something like 4' hard 2' rest, what do you do as "hard" and do you just spin easy as rest. I've also heard that 1-legged drills are good to identify weaknessess in your stroke (there's that word again). Any tips/pointers would be appreciated. Thanks, Tim |

MOOOOOOOO.
there is a thread in tri talk about increasing power. I haven't looked there in a while but I assume it has some workouts. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was able to delay my lunch (actually had a bar for first lunch) and so I got in a nice swim this afternoon...OUTSIDE...before the snow tonight. 3000 yards in 1:05 minutes doing drills and some probably longer than I should take breaks between sets (10 sec here, 20 sec there adds up). Anyway, I counted my strokes from a dead stop with my feet against the wall. Average 19-21 strokes, which I guess isn't too bad from a dead stop as opposed to a flip turn or push off. I still need to work on my right hand forcing water to my feet. I likes to take a break and just flitter around like a ribbon in the wind from time to time. I think my next swim will just be a nice long set of 2500 yards, nonstop. Focusing on technique but also swim endurance...but that is Tuesday's problem. I hope everyone has a boffo extended weekend. I will be playing in the up to 2" of snow with my 2 year old (its Atlanta, don't hate me because you get more snow up north). |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Extended weekend....what's that! Ya'll work gov. jobs..j/k! I am interested on the bike trainer response. I'm sure there are threads out there giving lots of ideas. I have a video I might try tomorrow. Race Day..came with my trainer, but I haven't opened it up. I've just been doing easy bikes. Bike on the trainer seems like a lot more work or I'm way out of shape. I'm also going to go for a long run tomorrow...on the treadmill. I just loaded my ipod up with a bunch of podcast. Free podcast are my new favorite thing...I have podcast on Tri's running, swimming, being a working mom, organization...:- Later... Tdog

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy weekend all. It is snowing in Atlanta. While I know you Yankees aren't impressed, as you recall it took alot to get the heat-miser to let it snow in the south. Must be another deal going on. Anyway, the following is a list of items that go together: wine and cheese, turkey and dressing, snowshoes and snow, trixie and hardbody, and now...bike trainer and Playstation 3. I want to get in a few hours of biking on the stationary today, just for miles more than elaborate training. It has come to my attention that the aero position is a gereat compliment to the Playstation controller. Sure, I can't play guitar hero, but Madden 08 will be rockin'. Anyway, I will report my findings to all. Hope you have a great training weekend. And, by the way, I don't work for the gov't, but the markets are closed on Monday so I will only do a half day with my chinese clients. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Swimmers!!! After reading everyones comments on their swim counts, I am dead! Did 1550 in 30 mins yesterday with my stroke counts in the 25 to 29 range. I take it that is not a good thing? Even on sets I was working on slowing my stroke down I still was above 22. No wonder why I stink on the swim>.. David |

Bob ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone!! It looks like most everyone is having a good week of training! Keep the inspires going to those who seem to be "tapering". I'll start posting some spin workouts that my coach sends me to give you some variety on the trainer. Here's the first one, it's a great one for technique!: 10' Spin warm-up, working to 100+ RPM About swimming, the stroke count will come down as you spend more time in the pool. Swim Golf is a great game to work on stroke count. After your drill set, which would come right after your 10 minute warm-up (hint, hint) , do 4 x 50 with about 1 min rest. On each 50, count your stroke cycles (left arm pulls) and add that number to your time in seconds. Ex. 50 yds swam in 41 strokes and 50 seconds = 91 for a score. Try to lower your score on each 50. You will find that having the lowest stroke count doesn't always yield the fastest time. I hope to see some swim golf scores posted over this next week!! |
